I adore Mr Bates and so hope that things can work out between him and Anna!!! On the flipsideโฆ I do not like Mary. I understand that things are very difficult for her as a woman in that time periodโbut things are difficult for ALL women back then. I think Mary is petulant, spoiled and sooo self-pitying. She takes advantage of the feelings of others without a second thought. She is by far my least favorite of the three sisters.

I think Mary and Edith are just super rivals, they're constantly trying to one-up each other and they're super petty with each other. It is definitely weird that Mary and Matthew are technically related, but I think the relation is pretty distant, because I think Lord Grantham had said before that he and Matthew's father were second or third cousins, meaning that Matthew would be a third or fourth cousin and Matthew and Mary would be like fourth or fifth cousins. In other words, they're pretty distantly related. It is still bizarre for us to think about being romantically linked with anyone in our family tree, but it definitely happened all the time, and with much nearer relations than that. Thank you again for these requests Ellen! Hoping we get episode 6 next month! ๐
