2023-07-03 23:51:24 +0000 UTCAbout the question of whether Decker is a replicant... there is a really great youtuber analysis that talks about it and takes an approach that at least to me is the most satisfying- the best answer, really, is to ask why it matters and whether it really should. Since a core of both films is questioning what makes a 'human'/a 'life'/worth value. Like chad says in the discussion, the replicants act more 'human' than the humans so afraid of them/fixated on destroying them.

2023-06-10 08:52:36 +0000 UTCWhoo! This one and its sequel are two of my all-time favorites, so I'm looking forward to you seeing 2049 soon. I agree with your discussion overall. For all its awesomeness (especially for 1982!), it definitely has some editing stumbles like the way-too-long photo scanning scene and bits of awkward writing/dialogue. I personally watched the theatrical version first, and one of my favorite movie lines ever is actually part of Deckard's narration (which was removed for the Final Cut version you watched). After Roy's 'tears in rain' speech, Deckard narrates: "I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life; my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die."
