Once Upon a Time - 6x20 "The Song in Your Heart" Full Reaction

I know what you mean about the hype and the work behind. I love this show and have loved it since the pilot but I had the same reaction that Shelley (obviously more hyped), and I loved it, its in my top 5 favorite episodes from the show, but for me it was cheesy and I laughed and I had a little bit of cringe from it but it didn't took the enjoyment from it. For me it was a bit ridiculous as well, and got scared that they will use the songs to actually fight the black fairy but I knew this was more like a fan service episode (nothing wrong with it, Im glad they did) and not much into the plot but I applaud to the writers that they still made it plot heavy with Emma's and Hook's wedding and the coming from the curse but my point is that I wasn't expecting much from it since I knew all that but I think Shelley actually thought that they will use the songs to defeat the black fairy and that's why she was skeptical about it. Also, I agree with you when you said that Emma can be both, a badass and in love, the problem is that lately their characters (Hook also) dropped with their personalities and focused on just the couple thing and there's nothing wrong with that either but they left out a lot of what it made them an interesting couple at first. I remember Shelley saying that she felt like they were trying to make them the new Charmigns and it clicked for me cause she was right, in season 5 they wanted to repeat the share a heart thing at first and then Emma saying the famous "I will always find you" and such, its like they lost themselves into this relationship but thats my take out, sorry to make this so large, but I wanted to share my thoughts 😅

I mean, we’ll always hope reactors will feel the same way we do about things. Usually this episode brings out really strong responses so to see her relatively unphased by it was a surprise haha.

They met in season 2 and didn’t like each other. Season 3, there was a whole missing year. Season 1 canonically was the longest season. The rest were weeks or a couple of months. They hadn’t been established in a relationship long before they married.

To be fair Emma and Hook met 3 years prior as in season 2 Henry was 11 and in season 6 he is 14

I have to admit, I am a little disappointed that you didn't seem to care for it as much as millions of others (including myself) did. It was so well thought out and built into the storyline that was ongoing (not a musical epsiode for having a musical episodes sake) It continued the story. The writers, cast, crew did all of this within their regular shooting schedule. Cast taking voice lessons, learning choreography all within the same schedule. I loved how every single song was completely created for each character, and their personality. That is an incredible feat. Starting with Snow & Charming in the true Disney style, a great nod to the Classics. Then on to Regina's BADASS "Love doesn't stand a chance" A cross between Shania Twain and Rocky Horror Picture Show. She NAILS IT. I know that Hook & Emma are not your faves, but its the way the writers took it and I feel, it was the best overall outcome, more to be revealed as time goes on. I think Hooks song was perfect, I sang it in my head for days after watching. Again, following his 6 season dream of REVENGE against the Dark One. One of the Best, was the on point "Wicked Always Wins" by the Beautifully Wicked Zelena. Don't know if you remember back in season 3, that was one of her very first lines. Speaking to her Envy, of Regina and wanting Rumples approval, another knocked out of the park! Emma song- Using the 6 season theme from the show for her, was brilliant! NOT CHEEZY...IMO anyway. I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion, it just felt like you were not feeling this episode, or the show for that matter. It was like, you just wanted it to be over...You've come a long way and for that, I applaud you. As for Emma losing who she is- I think that BS. She can be BOTH Strong and in Love. It doesn't have to be one or the other. She goes on to prove that she is still the BADASS she ALWAYS has been. I think her character has morphed over these years from a one dimensional character into someone that has many layers and textures. The last 2 episodes go together so I hope that you will release them together (fingers crossed). We are nearing the END of this Story...I hope you like the way they wrap up the rest of the season, It just seemed like you were just done with it. Prepare for season 7- You will find more storylines to appreciate. I know people have different opinions, I was just really sad that you didn't LOVE this like I did. lol I waited a long time for it and you really just made fun of it and laughed all the way through. Maybe I read you wrong, but, yeah, I really thought you'd love it too. Oh well. You can't always get what you want...

There was a similar issue for emmas song, it seemed out of her range but it also just may have been Jen and Lanas arent excellent singers— but the autotune lends itself to Reginas song way more than Emmas. Either way, really happy they were all down to give it a go aside from Robert haha.

People love this episode. But, it was a culmination to me of episodes of the ruining of Emma's arc. She was a strong woman until she met Killian and that's when her story became about Killian and not about Henry and finding her family which she had been looking for her entire life. She forgot that and then everything became about Kilian. It was too soon of a wedding after how he treated her in the Dark Swan/Hook storyline. The things he said to her was unforgivable and people said it was the darkness but, Rumple never treated Belle like that and Regina had darkness in her and never was this mean to Henry. Also, Emma married hook within 6-9 months of meeting him that's something her character wouldn't do. But, I just went along with this. Because what else can you do it's the storyline. I might get hate for this. But, this is not the Emma we knew and fell in love with. She is someone else. It's okay to change and grow but, not into this. Also, Lana's voice was in the lower register because of the character that the Evil Queen was. It was made as a decision for the character and representation of the EQ.

So, uh, fun fact! Colin broke his foot when doing that chair thing in his song, where he stands on the chair and knocks it down (you know what I’m talking about) and he carried on for the rest of his song and did all of that with a broken foot... that’s some dedication right there!

I love this episode so much, i have been waiting for this reaction for a while 😍, all the cast sounds great, i loved all the songs & memorize them by heart, hook's song is my favorite but all of them are lovely, i think colin o'donoghue being a musician helped it be even better, but the charmings one is so sweet & catchy, Regina's one is so badass, loved zelena's song too, Emma's song was very powerful & the happy begining song at the end was perfect, great reaction, Shelley 👏

"It would've been cool if they would've had more foresight and plotted this out previously." "It was a bit ridiculous, but I had a good time." Some accurate nutshelling of the show you did there 😄 I'm happy you weren't spoiled for this. It's always a delight seeing reactors go in blind for these sorts of things. It wasn't a perfect episode by any means, but overall a fun change of pace, and bonus points for the songs all being original. A few stray observations: While most of the songs suited the actors' voices, I think the composers did Lana really dirty with having hers in a such a low key. It may give off more "evil" vibes, but it didn't sound very comfortable for her and there was SO much autotune, I assume because it was hard to consistently go that low. She sounded lovely in the finale song, so it's a shame they couldn't key her main song a bit higher. Speaking of high keys, I'd like to give a shoutout to Colin — he was hitting an Ab4 throughout his song and a Bb4 on that final note, which are just below a C5, the top note of a tenor's range. Pretty impressive. Also, the fact that neither Hook nor any of the other pirates were confused by spontaneously breaking into a musical number, unlike Snow, Charming, and Regina, leads me to believe they do that regularly lmao. All those sea shanties paying off! I loved that they let Josh show off a bit, too — IIRC he has a musical theatre background, so giving him that grand entrance was delightfully apropos. Classic cheesy Disney song, but he and Ginnifer sold the hell out of it. I do wish they'd gone with a different dress for Emma. It felt like something *Jennifer Morrison* would wear (if I'm not mistaken she played a big part in it being a Grace Kelly nod), rather than something *Emma* would wear. I think she should've worn either a more modern dress or embrace her fantasy heritage and go full fairytale. Not sure where she even got the dress, for that matter, since it wasn't among the ones shown at the beginning. Guess it must've been from the same place that was prepared to tailor a gown made for Snow 30 years ago into one for Emma within a couple hours 😂 Definitely a fan of that all-black suit for Hook, though. I believe he's up to four whole outfits now — might be able to fill a drawer soon! Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed the episode and am looking forward to getting your thoughts on the finale, then onward from there. Do you know yet whether you'll go straight into season 7 or take a detour into the spinoff first?

Laurel

i guess there was some continuity with Emmas song being the main theme of the show, which i found very sweet. I was laughing and crying throughout the entire episode when this aired it was just so ridiculously fun. Was even better because I remember the hype surrounding this episode was HUGE. Excited for the finale + season 7 + OUATIW ❤️❤️❤️ take care

GOOD IDEA! Would you consider watching the Final Battle 1 & 2 Back to Back? Much changes afterwards, so it would really be great if you could!

Oh btw, in case you were wondering here are the names of the songs 1. Powerful Magic: The Charmings 2. The Queen Sings: the little intro where Regina is singing with Sidney 3. Love doesn’t stand a chance: The Evil Queen 4. Revenge is gonna be mine: Hook 5. Wicked Always Wins 6. Charmings vs the evil queen: the reprise bit 7. Emma’s Theme 8. A happy beginning: everyone

if you think about it.... they sort of did because the opening scene is young emma singing in the same group home that her parents saw her in a few episodes ago when Charming said that she was beautiful so it was a call back.... and i still think it was cool how the evil queen was one of the first abc characters to curse on screen I believe (i could be wrong) but still and the lines they used are catchphrases from the actual characters or past plot points like Hooks revenge trip he was on early on and regina's with revenge on Snow for pseudo killling daniel that's what the line from her song was hinting towards "stole my shot at one true love that's what she did to me..." to me I believe Daniel and Regina were soulmates like her and Robin were later and Snow and David are and Killigan and Emma too...

Getting ready to start this- I hope that you LOVED it as much as I did!

I think its safe to say we were all looking forward to this reaction! Only a few minutes but im praying you enjoy it 😂

Kenney

The musical episode we didn’t know we wanted or needed 🥲

Miguelito

Yes!! Been waiting for this reaction since I started to watch your reactions🙌🏻 Hands down one of my fav episodes of the show, is cringy and cheesy and I looove it, I remember reading that this ep was like a fans service episode because for years the fans asked for a musical episode (since its based on Disney) so they did it, but it took them long because the showrunners didn’t knew how to do it, until they got help, so thats why it was (seemingly) out of the blue. You were right, starting with the Charmings was the way to go, and let me tell you, I was shook to hear how good singers they all were (still not over the “sound good” line from Charming 😂) Loved your reaction! This is definitely an episode to remember, cant wait for the finale (kind of wish you could watch them back to back), Im sooo excited for it 🙌🏻
