I think Chad was just including their 15 month training, which makes them all acquainted to each other for more than 2 years by the end of the war.

I commented this previously but I think its important for you to see. Captain Sobel ultimately had a tragic life. He was honorably discharged after WWII. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean War. He attempted suicide in 1970 but he failed in the attempt. The bullet severed his optic nerves leaving him blind. He died of malnutrition in a veteran's home in 1987.

Yeah, the HBO podcasts they did for the 20th anniversary last year are great (and available for free on YouTube). If anyone is interested in more bts and perspectives of the show from cast and crew, definitely recommend them.
