That Hamburglar reference always cracks me up! This show does use a lot of comedy to offset the really heavy elements and Dean especially hides behind the jokes so the food and vices references are the clearest clues that show how defeated he is becoming. The man has never been a big believer in destiny but he believes in facing what is right in front of him. So after traveling back and forth in time, continuing to find out more ways that they both have been controlled/manipulated - well, how can you not fault him for punching the cupid/cherub? It's one of his last remaining 'free will' ways of fighting. Last season, Castiel was so confused with how difficult Dean was being ever since he pulled him from hell because he is supposed to mirror Michael's mindset like following orders, being the soldier that is loyal to the absent father and his righteous cause. Same goes for our pure hearted Sammy, who has had so much forced on him, being different, his agency constantly abused and now he is being aligned with Lucifer. I's too much to bear for either of them but the connection is visible. Yet, that's where the big destiny plan fall to pieces. Both sides wanted them 'sharp' and back in the hunting game but it makes you wonder if Dean didn't get Sam back in season one, would the apocalypse have been kicked off already? Their isolation from season 3-4 shows how easy they could be turned. Instead, they came together after all the disconnect and built something so much stronger then their initial views and chose each other. Dean questioned his father's orders and Sam didn't let revenge overtake him due to the renewed sense of family. I know it's more layered than that but they basically broke the destiny mold years ago so both teams (heaven/hell) sorta screwed themselves.
