Love the speech Dean gives Cole at the end because he remembers his arguments with Tessa and as hopeful as he pretends to be about being given a second chance - it's a mask that he is barely holding onto for sanity's sake. He doesn't want to be there but he is also scared of staying or moving on as he missed his initial choice and I loved his frankness to Cole who is that wise kid you cannot outsmart. Dean always has a soft spot for younger sibling types back when he character was consistent*. While I miss our optimistic Sammy, he is getting things done after being beaten down so many times, hindsight of past situations and taking real swings so I like seeing his tougher veneer. He just needs the balance and the boys are drifting further away from each other which is when their codependency is not such a dirty word now...it's just so tainted. Sam is strong and Dean needs to accept it while balancing the fear to remove the Ruby element. She slid in so expertly and is playing them both like fiddles.

I'm also mad about how much the writers keep giving Dean those stupid lines. Its just too much. --- TOUCHE!

Wow. This was a great reaction to watch - thanks! So glad you enjoyed this. I'm right there with ya. But why'd they have to kill Pamela?!?! Kim Manners was a director for SPN. One of their best. The boys really loved and respected him too. He also directed a lot for the X-Files. This is an odd treatment of the whole reaper thing. I figured that the Reaper just takes the soul after a person dies. And if a reaper doesn't take the soul the person is a ghost. So this time the person doesn't die because there isn't a reaper? I never understood that. I think they could have done something where the town just suddenly became overrun with ghosts because there was no reaper to take them. I've always really liked this episode. It may not be fast or have a lot of action, but it's got a lot of good stuff in it. So much is going on that progresses the story, gives us character stuff. Makes good connections to past story parts. All the goodness. The conversations the brothers have between each other and between other people really tells us a lot about what's going on with them. I like that. I was pretty sure Dean would have said yes, back when he was talking with Tessa back in season 2's premier. Not because of what was to come, but because he wouldn't want to be a ghost. And now, we know how bad it was for him after loosing John. And then loosing Sam. He wanted to die and that's really sad, because he never gives up. He didn't fully give up then, but he did the next best thing by selling his soul and getting just 1 year to live. Yeah. This show! And Sam! Poor Sam. In some ways, it's nice to see his growth. Him gaining strength and confidence. But in another, it's very worrisom with what seem to be not so good behavior traits that come with it. I miss some parts of season 1 Sam. Maybe more season 2 or 3 Sam. I do miss season 1 Dean. I'm also mad about how much the writers keep giving Dean those stupid lines. Its just too much. I also kept thinking back to what John whispered into Dean's ear. Ever since then it replayed in my head whenever there was something going on with Sam. I bet it's playing a lot in Dean's head too. One correction for ya - Sam wasn't able to use his powers as a ghost. Allistaire mentioned it. Mary's deal wasn't to sell her soul. It was for Sam. It's easy to get things confused. This was something mentioned during the conversation between Mary and Yellow Eyes after he killed John. She actually brought up selling her soul and yellow eyes said No. He didn't want her soul. He was making the deal for the future when she had a child, he would come for a visit. So, Mary went wherever she would normally have gone after death.
