2020-08-24 06:07:19 +0000 UTCHi! Hope you're doing okay. This is one of those episodes that is a bit like an onion. It has layers. I really like how you are able to get things from these episodes. Sometimes a MOTW is more than just a MOTW. It is also a vehicle the writer is using to tell us something important. And this time, as is usually the case, it's about that status of the relationship between Sam and Dean. The Siren was influencing them, but she wasn't inserting those thoughts into their heads, or making them actually have the feelings. She/It was making them "love" her more than anyone else, basically. And those feelings would influence them to do what she wanted. Even killing someone. So using any existing resentments was an aid to doing that. But, those feelings were there. Sam does really feel that way. What he said to Dean. Sam is feeling more powerful since he has that power he can use against demons now. And I can see how that might make him fee more powerful than Dean and feeling like Dean is holding him back from going after lilith. What they were saying to each other in the hotel room were their actual thoughts they've been keeping inside and not saying. Well, they have said things, but not so direct. Sam has said all of that before - in bits a pieces. Several times. Sam is really thinking those things. That Dean is weaker than before, and holding him back, and scared to go after lilith. While Dean is just wanting to be careful and isn't trusting Sam's life to testing out how powerful Sam really is. The only thing I think was influenced was making them want to kill each other over it all. Bringing those feelings to the front and making them intense Dean knows Sam is doing something with Ruby, he just doesn't know what and Sam won't tell him. Sam refuses to tell him and keeps acting like there's nothing going on. The siren was giving Dean what he wanted from Sam and didn't think he was getting. For right or wrong. And Sam doesn't like how Dean thinks about him and his powers. That Dean is so harsh about it and Sam doesn't see why it should be so bad. Sam has changed since season 1 too. He's gone through a lot. But his powers have grown. So it's understandable that it would make him feel strong. What he can do. He has something really useful in fighting Demons. Makes it more of an even fight. So I can see that. But him seeing Dean as weak has bugged me. Is Sam projecting that on Dean for some reason? Dean is trying to be careful. Isn't usually Sam who is the careful one?
