Still love the telling of this story regardless of interpretations (I mean we are also dealing with so many of lore changes in the main plot lines especially angels). I wish Samhain would have been a bigger story arc since I love the real history and what I have read about the lore surrounding it. I felt terrible for Sam to have his faith trampled and how Dean went from "I told ya so" to "forget those guys, keep your religious view". It's still adorable how much he really is such a mom to him since we all know John would never step up to comfort either of them. While I don't think the angels are what helped pushed him to get past his powers being bad...I have no idea why he he flipped his choice so easily in 3 episodes. He left his brother to deal with saving people, fighting the zombies, ghosts, etc. and ran off to deal with an overpowered demon he shouldn't have been remotely able to mentally exorcise. And I get it, that dude could have done some serious damage but the seal was broken and backup was literally in town (Cas or Uriel could have easily popped in and smoked that guy). Sam just needs to either accept it and tell his bro everything instead of making excuses to use them. Fan or not of where the power comes from, they are supposed to be in this together and they are just splitting further apart every episode. Mystery Spot showed him better off after 6+ months versus the breakneck speed Sam has gone since Dean went to hell and ignored the dying wishes he promised and lied about to suddenly making Ruby his bro's replacement. It was 4 months and they were so closely working together and pulled off a fake out/code words just like he and Dean did as brothers over a lifetime bond. Was Ruby really a better support system than Bobby? That's insulting to Bobby who we all know is the GOAT. I was really DYING to see some Bobby and Sam bonding since it was clearer how close Dean was to him. Plus I love Jim Beaver! Also loving some Castiel in this episode! His scene at the end with Dean was pretty much the point I knew he was something special and I never wanted to lose his presence here. We have seen the supposed dark side/demons but we now know angels are not what anyone was hoping they would be...it is all grey. But Cas connecting with Dean here clearly made their future working relationship feel real instead of just being 'hammers'. And man, those boys are gorgeous so that helps a teeny bit!

One thing that always bugs me about this episode is their pronunciation of Samhain. It's a Gaelic word. The correct pronunciation is Sa-win (sa as in bra). As much as they research their stories, you'd think they'd have gotten that correct.
