This is such a great episode! Season 2 has been pretty good so far. I like how the show is continuing to build as it goes, and how the characters continue to grow, we learn more about them - and how the world is growing and we're learning more about it along with the boys. They seem able to make it all seem so intimate. Like we're right there with the boys. I really appreciate how knowledgeable you are on a lot of existing lore and such from real life. The people with the show - creator and writers, etc. put a lot of effort into researching this stuff and seeing how they want to use it in the show. How to put their own spin on things. You really got what was happening in the episode and I love it. Not everyone gets what was really going on with everything, and especially with Dean and understanding of the nuances in that conversation with the demon. And few people know about the Crossroads legends. I loved the episode too when I saw it the first time. So much information and things going on under the surface to unpack. I like that. I appreciated them touching more on what John did and the effect that's having on the boys. Dean is still trying to find the fun in his life, and I really love that. But it's also sad, because you know it's likely on shaky grounds given what lies beneath. I don't want to loose that cocky, devil may care, fun loving boy we got to meet in season 1. But in this episode we see that there's darker stuff going on too, underneath all that. I think Jensen does an amazing job handling the dichotomy of that. The conversation with the demon at the cross roads had me riveted. I hated hearing what the demon said about John, and I was practically yelling at Dean to not do what it looked like he was going to do. So glad that didn't happen! He had a job to do and still has some sense. That's good. Seeing Sam look so worried was sad too. Dean is hurting, but so is Sam. Dean may try to show Sam that he's fine, but Sam knows he's not. Glad you stopped before the spoiler previews got very far. I think I gave you the warning for the wrong episode, so I'm glad you remembered. There was a LOT of stuff in there because this episode was the mid season finale, I think, back in 2006.

So just to clarify one point. That demon was not exorcised by anyone at the end. It bailed out and ran off voluntarily when Dean threatened it. That whole monologue just before she smoked out was typical demon emotional abuse. It's what they do. They can't help any opportunity to wind someone up any way they can. But I really love the themes they play with in this episode and series. The idea of self-sacrifice and doing the wrong thing for the right reasons. These boys have some hard choices to make and rarely know how things will turn out when they do.
