Ok, thanks. I always got confused because Elkins loaded the gun when Kate came after him, but i never counted how many bullets he put in and I assumed that it was a 6 shooter.

He doesn't tell the boys about the gun (which meant, if he died trying to kill the demon, Sam and Dean would have no idea there was even a way to kill it), or the fact that vampires were real (extinct or not, that seems like a major oversight). Honestly, the more we learn about John the more I dislike him. I get that he acknowledges his faults as a father in this episode (being mad that his son is going to college, WHICH IS STILL INSANE TO ME), so good for him, but it doesn't excuse or erase the damage he's done. The only reason I liked his talk with Sam was that it made Sam feel better. Otherwise, all this episode did was make me resent him. Like, why would he want to protect the boys now? After sending them on dangerous hunts? Because the demon that killed Mary is so much more dangerous? That means John should have back up! He shouldn’t try to kill the demon alone or whatever. And John couldn’t even bother to show up when Dean was dying in the hospital, but he could show up for his random buddy? It just seems like John is a piece of shit. And I'm so damn proud of Dean for standing up to John in this episode and defending the past year of hunting he’d done with Sam. They damn well should be proud of what they accomplished. And John doesn’t get to just barge in on what they built up and start barking orders at them. I honestly clapped the first time watching and Dean finally told John how he felt. I think this is where I finally accepted myself being . . a "Dean girl". Yuck. But still, true. I just relate to him more. And he's pretty. But mostly the relatability thing.

I had been a Buffy fan since it's beginning, so it took me a bit to adjust to looking at vampires differently, but I decided I liked that the show did them differently. It came out before the whole Twilight craze too. Before Buffy, I'd just known about vampires from movies. It was awesome seeing John show up and us finally getting basically a full episode with him. Finally! You're so close the the end of this first season and I think you've come a long way in understanding how the show works, the Winchesters, the lore, etc. But, you've really just begun. So much more growth coming ahead. The boys have a LOT to learn. And we learn along with them. It's a fun ride. A bumpy ride, some times, but you know how it goes.

I always think John shot Luther not only to save Sam, but to also see if the gun would work (seems like such a John thing to do). I hope you get to finish the season this month, although I know that might not work for your schedule. At any rate I will be happy whenever you post. Great reaction too. It's so much fun to sit and watch with someone new to the show.
