Haven't heard of Lawrence before, will have to listen to their music. Love hearing you and Troy discuss music!!👍💗

I like how you and Troy exchanged your views respectfully. For me, if someone (a celebrity or not) is really good at something, I don't mind them flexing/showing off their skills/talent. It's when they get cocky about it that gives me an ick no matter how great they are. And I do agree that sometimes fame gives people a pass on being mediocre. For the two songs discussed particularly here, I checked out the Lawrence band song in question and I think the fact that the song is at 110% the entire time makes it kinda exhausting to listen to (sorry 😅). When the male vocalist started singing the second verse I was like "Are they really still going at a 110? Okay..." lol. With Die With A Smile, it didn't click with me at first but the song is growing on me over time. The vocals really stand out and there's some dynamic to it.

Bruno is Ace! Top shelf. Bruno rocks; and I stand. 😂

This was a nice bonus, thanks 😃 Really interesting topics, too bad it had to be cut out of the video. But I get it. I have never understood the moments where singers are just standing there smiling looking smug and people are going nuts about it. But that's probably the Finnish mentality in me, we ain't making a number out of ourselves 😅 I can understand those moments when artists get emotional by the audience showing them love though and can't continue until they have gathered themselves first (when it's real and not acted and fake). What comes to Bruno Mars, his voice is just so good that he could sing a phone book and it would sound good 😆 Catch a granat isn't good though... But I still enjoy his vocals on it, so I guess to me he gets away with a bit with bad songs 'cos of his voice and not 'cos of his celebrity status🤔 I felt like Whatcha Want is a bit too messy for my taste, a bit too many different types of vocal treats put together if that makes any sense. They have really nice voices though! I liked the Do You Wanna Do Nothing with Me, it was less busy and that kind of a date would sound pretty good at the moment tbh😆 But yeah celebrities are getting away with a lot more and being appreciated by the normal stuff they do. Sometimes I wonder why they treat people around them like shit in their position too and people seem to tolerate that, kind of getting a free pass on being a d**k, that's hard to understand.

"my ears are effing bleeding" usually decides if I continue to listen 😅 in any type of music, I let my nervous system decide if I like it (which is very quickly), and only then give it real attention. Probably because of this I missed out almost entirely on this kind of music. I respect what they're trying to show off, but it just isn't what draws me to music. I feel like in Europe, celebrity "culture" for the sake of it is almost non-existent. Trying to avoid as much internet/celebrity drama as possible is good for health, I think 😅 I like this type of back-and-forth discussion about music

Now I'm on work break, I'm finally able to ponder through. I think the crux of being in music scene seems to be artistes trying to get in pulse on what's trending with the youth, in every generation, to remain relevant long term albeit possibly cheapens music value imo versus doing proper artistry showcasing their true talent. Popularity is unpredictable so some mediocre or cringey or show-offish flex is acceptable in today's context I guess.. Sometimes or maybe most times, it's their record label or agency or producers telling them to do all these up-to-date tiktok-esque stuff that artistes can't say no. I don't really know.. If I like what I hear, and I know the high effort artistes put into their songcraft and that I like their personalities, I'll support them. 😉

I'm very confused by this discussion. 🤣 Here is what I think was the conclusion. Artists need to sing well, but not show off or it is cringe. And, if they must show off, not to do it early in the song because that is too Tik Tok. And they have to earn the right to show off by having a successful career with some cringe music early on. 😵 My head is spinning but the debate was fun.

Spicyyy! Lesser mortals like us can't get away doing cringey stuff. Lol. I enjoyed seeing 2 friends chatting earnestly. Some fandom spheres aren't too kind on opinions not sugar coated to their liking. There are some artistes' fanbase I can't name them here for fear of backlash. Lol. This is the kind of chat I have with open-minded, trustable friends too. It's good consideration that you left this for us Patrons. Heh. Appreciate you sharing this clip. May you have a great weekend, Joel~~💜

I know only one song by Lawrence and I liked it for the mood, not for some cool vocal skills or something) For me show-off music is like a rich in flavor delicious dish: the temptation to pig out is high but you must be careful, in order not to stop liking it forever. And I don’t care who’s showing off, sometimes it’s even better if it’s not a famous artist (hello hipster-bros)

I’m glad you’re feeling better, Alle!! 😁
