Vacation Update
Added 2023-06-10 10:27:03 +0000 UTCHey gang, just a quick update - I'm on vacation attending my uncle's funeral I mentioned earlier, and my brother's wedding!! My 6 years younger brother beat me to marriage lmao, not sure how to feel about it.
Anyway, I'm doing good, trying to get some rest in too before I come back. Releasing a video today in a few hours, it was gonna go live friday as I've announced but the sponsor couldn't approve in time (which isn't their fault, we were working on a tight deadline).
The sponsor is betterhelp and I'm really passionate about mental health and think they do great work. I know they had a bit of a bad rep for a bit on youtube but they definitely improved and are offering a great service that I use myself.
Hope you're all good! Sorry for the radio silence here, whenever I go to Sweden I end up seeing family a lot on missing out on the stuff I usually do.
Gonna go hard when I get back from vacation!! Can't wait to make more stuff.
Until then, what are some ways that videos that have some songwriting or production in them could be more interesting to you? Lemme know in the comments!! I really feel like it can be done SO WELL and I think we can figure it out.

Until you have a longer or a new version ready. I understand if you already have had these ideas, and discarded them but I don't know, maybe there are some new ideas here that might be applicable... Anyways, this could be a way of giving the audience and maybe you a sense of closure, and we can continue enjoying the song in different ways, first as a draft and then seeing it transform 😀 Ok, I put way more time into this idea than I thought. So as many of your patreons I have put some thoughts into your question, regarding the songwriting/production videos and how they can become more interesting to us. Sorry for the full essay, but I have a lot of work so obviously I am procrastinating writing to you instead. The idea is that after you’ve made the first songwriting video, take for example the Felix video, you take your song (which l loved), and continue working on it making a series of it with the intention of finish the song, maybe by using one of the ways described below. Maybe you can extend an invite to the audience/other youtubers to make their own versions, or include collaboration with producers, singers, writers in your videos. Or perhaps, ask people to send in their lyrics or vocals and have a competition where the winner gets to record a cover of the song (or you record their lyrics if they are not singers etc. But most of all, you can in this case use that song to showcase your producing skills (like with the course that you were talking about).

Yes, they made some pretty terrible choices and you have every right to not like them for it. I just don't like the cancel culture and choose to give people a chance to change. My comment wasn't about you guys shaming people for going to therapy it was more the way it was gone about in bringing up the issue you have with betterhelp/him using it and how much it could stop people from getting help in anyway.

I truly hope they are doing better and am happy for everyone who has had great experiences with them and would never shame anyone for going to therapy (honestly don't know where you got that from because neither me nor OP ever posted anything of that matter) but recommending their services, especially when you have a big platform, isn't something that I personally understand.

Try not to feel the pressure to get married, I think it’s better to wait till the right person comes along. I’m the youngest in my family so luckily I don’t have that pressure lol, but I def understand the feeling of everyone around being engaged or married while still being single sigh 😭. For video ideas I personally really enjoy the ones where u compete/collaborate with other people. Maybe each vid can have a theme such as 80’s power ballads, 90’s pop, emo etc and then people can vote on the best one? Or ones where u guys write songs for other artists such as Taylor Swift? Hope that made sense lol. Glad u are doing well and taking a much deserved vacation!

More money and planning put to a wedding day than to actually make the relationship work 😅 But I so can relate to those feelings what comes to mind when brother beats u to it 😅 I hope ur relatives doesn't bother u with the questions about "when we get to celebrate ur wedding" 😆 I don't know about the bad rep of betterhelp, never heard of it before, but I appreciate u promoting taking care of mental health. That's such an epidemic around the world nowadays and for some reason it still has some stigma attached to it, even though it should be talked about just like any other health issues. In songwriting I'm interested in the story or the source of inspiration behind the lyrics and also if there is ways to highlight lyrics with music etc. Making up new lyrics for existing songs is funny too... Then there's always the wheel of doom, that I mentioned in the comment 14.4. under the Oki Doki update 🤪 Have a great rest of the vacation and safe travels back to LA 💙🙂

And there are programs out there to help aid with the costs. Not to mention.. you say you work for minimum wage… but you also work at a place (assuming you still work where you last mentioned) that includes benefits to help offset costs AND supplies you with free counseling…

Info about service options - and knowing that if one thing doesn’t work, that there are more avenues to try - that kind of thing is worth its weight in gold 🙌

Or what if there were randomly generated prompts that had some element of decision making, and there were twitch streams to help decide on the ‘ingredients’ for the song? Like what if you randomly generated from 100 prompts live, and the types of prompts could be things like -“Song topic has to be inspired by the most random influencer feud of 2023” -“Your bassline has to have the same notes in it as the best boyband song from 2004” -“You have to choose your tempo from among the BPMs of the current top 5 billboard songs Once you’d chosen all your prompts, you could engage us in what specific ingredients to pick, so we can participate as music fans (not necessarily musicians) via chat, polls etc. Then at the end of the stream you’d have a little pile of materials that we’d all helped generate. And you could go away and work off stream in your own way, but we’d all be super invested in the resulting song. (Whenever he asks this question I always waaaaay overthink it lol 😝)

But there are ways to receive help. Looking into resources in your area can be confusing. I am willing to share some information on how I was able to find some subsidized mental health services (i.e. give you an idea of what state/local offices exist) if anyone is in need of a little direction.

I was going to suggest, as an idea, to take some of your least favorite songs and change them until you like them. (Like "Heat Waves", "Happy", etc.) I think it'd be interesting to see what individual parts of a song make the biggest differences. I also think it's fun when you involve the community in making songs. It makes it fun. Or if you add in the element of surprise with random prompts or requiring some random things (random instruments,required bpm, certain words, etc.) into the song. Just ideas, though. You should do what is fun for you! We get more into it if you seem really into it. 😊

Quite the emotional roller coaster I bet! It's always good to prioritize family over work, so enjoy your time! It sounds like you've been busy as always, but in different ways and I'm sure those reunions are always so fun. As far as production-type videos, I think they can be interesting to everyone when done well. People who might be bored with technical details may also be likely to enjoy seeing the results of different production choices when shown simply. For example "if I do A, it sounds like this; but if I do B we get this instead." Like a simple way to introduce showing production techniques while keeping the interest of those who might not have the attention span or interest in a more complicated video. You could always link to a more in-depth video for those that are interested. Personally I enjoy seeing the results of certain choices like when you add a drum or alter a pitch. But it's easier to keep my attention if it's a simpler explanation - "we might do this thing in order to get this result, hear the difference?" But that's just me. I like more technical videos but have to be in the mood for it. As far as your younger brother marrying first - we all live at our own pace and it's not a race to meet certain goals. Those milestones do not equate happiness in everyone, and if that's what you decide you want then I'm sure you'll figure out how to pursue it. Thanks for the update, enjoy your time with family!

The reasoning behind your visit is with mixed emotions, but I’m happy for you that you’re able to be there with them all. And congratulations to your brother. As for the video suggestions.. I don’t watch many in that category. But the few I have, I always end up looking through the description trying to figure out what programs they’re using and getting frustrated because I can’t figure that part out so the rest of the video is basically useless. And also, since this would just be something to do for fun, I wouldn’t want to spend a lot of money on equipment or programs, so free or as close to free would be ideal for starting out. So learning how to do some of those things in cheaper programs would make me rewatch a video just to be able to try to do it along with it.

Give Joel the benefit of the doubt, other people have raised concerns with betterhelp, hopefully he'll see them and make better decisions in the future.

I made a cute rhyming storybook and invited my other siblings to join me in reading it. It began as a heartfelt moment but then the storybook was full of savage jokes. I’m not the funniest person but that was the funniest I’ve ever been, it killed 😎 On the songwriting content: definitely some amount of unscripted interacting and reacting! The more humanity we see while you’re doing superhuman music stuff the better, imo. Random prompts are so fascinating! Maybe there’s a way to tie pop culture into randomly generated prompts? Prompts could be connected to the current moment, like “this verse has to contain a post by [x social media trainwreck] or something. Or like, stems from current songs could be part of prompts as the basis for new material? Building blocks for songwriting that are relevant to the specific moment, rather than timeless prompts like “you have to use x instrument.” The reacting/commentary/humour might flow naturally since you’d be starting with topical material. Idunno, just spitballing but that’s something I would be super entertained by. Hope you’re having a quality trip!

Personally, I'm not ashamed of my mental health and I'm very open about what I struggle with, but can understand others aren't. I still think it works better for some people to do therapy online and I think betterhelp is a great way to do that. I looked into many online therapy sites and it was the most affordable with the most options/ways to communicate with your therapist. The lawsuit was done and actions were taken to make sure it doesnt happen again. As I stated in my post, it's unfortunate that they don't accept insurance and that ultimately is what made me leave. If it's working for someone, that's great and we should support that and not bring them down for it. They are putting in the work and your personal opinion, quite honestly, should not matter. Support them for being brave enough to get some help. No matter what you think about the company. If it's working for them, that's what matters. Bringing people down like this is never the answer.

(Can't quite remember it) Plus it wasn't really an actual vacation it was more just family visiting at their house but didn't go anywhere other than to go to grocery shops and then coming back to house,just sit there, do nothing lol. (My dad's Italian so that's why we were going there kinda frequently) But now my dad doesn't have any family there anymore 😕 so we end up not going back there. Story's this is taking longer than I thought to write in haha, plus I'm doing this while I just got up (here in Arizona it's 6:15 am) & you're a 9 hours ahead of me so you're already in like 9:15 pm 😄 Okay, I think I'll stop it here lol coz idk if you have enough time to read all of that , lol if you do please let me know! That would have been a bigger nightmare than it already was! I'm now happily single but I'll make you a deal- if we're both still unmarried by 40, you can put a ring on my finger 😂 (I like silver and gemstones, none of that gold diamond ring business, I'm pretty low maintenance!) Whether they appear unique, off key(so to speak), are that it is/isn't similar to other known combos. I hear a lot of similarities and interested in finding out if you hear the same. I'm glad you're getting time with family. The first reason not so happy, the second who cares? When it happens for you it will be a thousand times better, don't rush what is going to happen for you. There is someone for everyone. 🧡 I'm glad you're taking an actual vacation! I haven't seen my parents since pre-covid, going back at the end of summer and I swear I'm just gonna enjoy their company, visit relatives and do absolutely nothing else. As for the videos, I loved the making xx a better song series! I'm not sure if that would still work but I do enjoy rewatching those, rewriting the lyrics or trying out new vibes for a song is pretty fun.

As far as your brother getting married first, it's you can feel any way you want about it, ig...but I would say don't dwell on it too long. You'll miss joy that's right under your nose. Just be open (if that's what you want), but keep going about things. Maybe beating a dead horse...? But... Do you think doing a writing collab video is a possibility? It would be an interesting contrast to the competitive ones.

As far as your brother (congrats to him), just don't beat yourself up/worry about it too much. My aunt just got married last weekend and she's over 65. Her now wife is the love of her life and the wedding was one of the best I've been to. Love doesn't have a time limit. I've used Betterhelp and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, without them accepting insurance it cost me a lot more than with insurance. That being said, I'd still highly recommend it to anyone or just therapy in general. It's good it's helping you and I love that you're promoting it! I don't have much advice/ suggestions at the moment for videos, but have you thought about giving things people could do at home? Almost like homework. Lol. I know when I learned piano, my teacher would make flashcards of terms or notes I needed. You could always make it a little more fun than that and pertaining to your videos. I'd say if you could make music theory fun, that'd be incredible. I don't know if I'm going down the right road, but that's what I got for now.

After this he decided he'd beat me to everything, children, marriage, divorce, living back with my parents lol... I found out 1 of my Uncles passed away in April and no one told me. This has made my emotions vary daily from really sad to so angry that I didn't get to say goodbye 😞 so I'm glad you're getting to say goodbye surrounded by loved ones. I know it's a bitter sweet vacation with your uncles funeral but I hope you enjoy your time with the family, especially your brothers wedding. Happy for you bro! 🥳🎉 (but also, where is MY future spouse, I just ask) Jordan Orme makes really good music video analysis videos, and he is really good at pointing out when the lyrics are being supported visually in the video editing and choices (from an editor perspective). I would enjoy seeing something like that from a songwriter's perspective, the interplay with the music video. I would also be really interested in seeing a professional's view on connecting with lyrics in languages you don't understand (yes this is a ploy to get more kpop on the channel😉)
