Here comes Whitelight again putting into words the feelings I didn’t quite know how to express while playing this game. My personal encounter with Ubisoft’s self sabotaged writing potential was when i discovered a note written by a Hidden One in an abandoned bureau in London. There he lamented how the pursuit of the assassin mission led to the fall of roman Britain and its abandonment. As he looked at the aqueducts, temples and forts now destined for ruins, he started seeing the merits of what the proto-templars preach. He ends the note saying that the only reason he’s committing his doubts to paper is because he knows he will be long gone before anyone reads this note. What a delicious new perspective to explore in the eternal templar-assassin conflict (much better than Rogue’s attempt in my humble opinion), confined to a footnote that most players won’t even read. In the eloquent words of Donald J Trump “SAD!!!”

Man, what a banger. The ending left me in tears, what a beautiful sentiment, to be moved by the artwork so much that it can’t negate all the real faults the game has. Expertly put as well. If I had one critique though, is that I feel like video essays like these could use some more breathing room between chapters. You already do it textually, grouping things into coherent structures, but from a visual standpoint, it would benefit the pacing to have a small breather with a chapter title saying “Story”. It also gives you opportunity to make small visual jokes which gives a good contrast to the textual nature of the video essay. Still, phenomenal work, I’m glad I’m a Patreon sub if it helps produce art like this.

As is typical with your videos, I may not have harboured any previous interest for the game, but your writing compels me to care...a banger as always

I'll always have a soft spot for this game as it's the only one where you can burn Crawley to the ground

3:30 - black screen. Render issue maybe? Either way, loving it so far. Your ability to immerse through the written word is unmatched.
