I'm guessing the reason birdie was removed was because the model of the character was done so well it made people in this day an age assume it looked like a child. Even though it clearly states before you even play the game that all the characters are 18 years old. I'm not an expert, but this is my though as to why it was removed. Not sure if this helps it's just my guess.
