Status Update

Going into August, I thought I would update the patrons on what has been going on.

For those who are new, I decided with the release of the Skyrim video that I was not going to start another long-form project until after the Starfield video was completed.  This is still the case, however I have two very strong contenders for the subject.  I do not want to put names down in the post to avoid the appearance that I am making any kind of promise.

For those who want to talk about this, or ask other questions, I will be doing a patron-exclusive stream on Saturday (8/5/23) @ 1 PM EST.  The VOD will remain available afterwards for those who can not attend.  If you would like your questions answered feel free to ask in the comments of this post.

STARFIELD

Obviously I do not have much to say about this project.  

We are one month out from release.  I will be playing it as soon as it's available.  I've been doing some groundwork ahead of release to insure that I use my time as efficiently as possible.  Just today I will be doing another Starfield stream covering the last few interviews and trailers released.  With this research done and noted, and some good habits through playing, it shouldn't be hard to do a decent job.

The aim is to have a full video akin to the Fallout 76 project out around November.

SUBTITLES

This is an interesting topic that I have not discussed in these posts: captioning.  In January of this year (2023) I made the decision to begin captioning some of my videos in my spare time.  This would typically be done in 10 minute (caption time) increments, but I lost interest in doing it personally for a few months.  However, a couple months ago someone I knew was in need of employment.

As of right now, the first hour of the Oblivion and Skyrim videos have been captioned in English.  However, the Morrowind video has four hours completed, meaning half of it is viewable with English captions.

For anyone who has not used YouTube auto-captions before, the experience is "sub-optimal" to be generous.  There is a strict lack of grammar, and the word identification is spotty, especially with made-up names which are frequent in Elder Scrolls.  I do have some ulterior motives in working on the Morrowind subtitles, but doing so has been largely beneficial and I see no reason to stop.

IF you would like to beta test these subtitles during your next viewing of any of my Quick Retrospectives, feel free.  The description contains timestamps of how much have been completed,  If the description doesn't mention captions, that means they aren't on that video.  You may forward any issues to captions@patrician.tv .  The main things to look for are spelling, grammar, timing, and spacing.

Additionally, because I know some will ask if they can contribute: it depends.  For English, if you want to do more than just check their quality, I can send you the subtitle files for other video projects of mine.  If you would like to help translate, I can also send you a subtitle file to work on.  Even just a few minutes (caption time) would be a help.  Just reach out first, in case some co-ordination needs to be done.

Also, I am REALLY BAD at giving timely responses via e-mail.  So I ask that you limit correspondence to requests and submissions of caption files, and to be patient.

OTHER VIDEOS

I do have some other videos in the work.  Coming out soon will be a short video about Death Stranding.  However, I found myself somewhat in project limbo right now.  This is part of why I hate doing new releases, but this is the last one that I promised previously and I tend to be stubborn about such things.  

I hope to spend August recording some footage for projects that might make a December release window, however I find the idea of doing a project in parallel with Starfield dreadful.  It is an unfortunate position, but I would rather spend August doing some necessary maintenance work on the channel and absolutely nail the Starfield video, than try to squeeze out a sub-par video for the sake of continual progression.

My internal goal has always been 30 minutes of content per month, so I've kept up with that.  But I hope this post provides transparency on where I've been at.
