Alpha Release Update – Channel & Group System Incoming

The next Alpha release of nicFW880 will be a few days out, I’m deep into rewriting the channel and group system from the ground up.

This new system is a big shift:

26 groups (A–Z), each with 12-character names
Channels range from 1–999, no more banking
Channel names can be up to 30 characters

All of this means the codebase is changing significantly compared to earlier versions.

Group names will be fully configurable via the radio menu. Thanks to the redesigned menu system with category-based organization, it’s far less cluttered. My goal is to make everything configurable directly through the radio, though we’ll still have the CPS of course.

If you have any ideas or suggestions for how channel and group operations should work, now’s the time to share them! The channel/group code is still in flux, so it’s the perfect window to shape how this system will behave.
