Use with SPI Flash App V4.00.20 [Previous Release]
This is a minor, single-feature update. Notifications have not been enabled for this post, as the update is unlikely to be of general interest.
New Feature: Scrambler Support (BK4819 Inversion Type)
The in-built frequency inversion scrambler feature of the BK4819 has now been implemented. Previously, this feature was deliberately excluded for the following reasons:
It is almost always illegal to use on public access or amateur bands.
On commercial allocations, where it may be legally used; such a basic scrambling method is not considered secure or appropriate, especially on budget radios.
For these reasons, the scrambler was deemed unnecessary and potentially problematic.
However, due to frequent reports of this feature being used (illegally) on public bands such as GMRS, and despite not condoning or encouraging this misuse, the decision was made to implement the feature to allow users to monitor such transmissions if needed.
Note: This feature will also be backported to the H3 and 890 models in future updates.
Usage Notes:
Menu Location: Scrambler is accessible via User Menu #14. After flashing, verify this menu does not contain a spurious or unintended value.
Indicator: When enabled, a β!β (exclamation mark) icon will appear in the flags bar.
Squelch Warning: Do not use CTCSS/DCS tones or codes while the scrambler is active, as they will interfere with scrambling and cause poor performance.
Audio Tip: Consider disabling Key Tones when using the scrambler for best audio clarity.
