Шанлайские “оборотни” обитают на границе между Потоком и Штилем, часто попадаясь путникам в сумерках и иногда преследуя их.
Будучи лишь отголоском чьих-то шан,они лишены разума и постоянной формы. Глаз различает их только мельком, на периферии, поэтому рассмотреть оборотней как следует невозможно. Они стремительно катятся под ноги, меняя облик, издавая треск, хаотичные звуки музыки, кошачьего мяуканья, детского плача и криков птиц. И не понять, то ли это ком земли, то ли мертвое животное, то ли грязная лохматая шкура, свернутая в клубок.
Встреча с оборотнем не причиняет серьезного вреда, но вызывает у смертных сильные головные боли, кровотечение из носа и глухоту, бесследно проходящие через пару дней.

Shanglanian "shapeshifters" live on the border between the Stream and the Flat, often running into travelers at dusk and sometimes following them.
Being only an echo of someone's shang, they are not intelligent nor have any real form. The eye catches them only in motion, on the periphery, so it is impossible to see the shapeshifters properly. They rapidly roll under your feet, changing their appearance every second, emitting crackling, chaotic sounds of music, cat meows, children's crying and the cries of birds. And it’s super hard to understand whether it’s a dead animal, a roll of grass or a dirty shaggy pelt.
A meeting with these creatures does not cause serious harm, but ends up with severe headaches, nosebleeds and deafness, which disappear without a trace after a couple of days.
