Hi All!
Introducing my Flapjack Octopus design! The Flapjack Octopus is an adorable species of Umbrella Octopus, and close relative to the Dumbo Octopus. These cute fellas have swimming fins on their heads that look just like a set of ears. Unlike many other octopus species, the Flapjack only has one row of suckers on each tentacle.

3D PRINTING SETTINGS:
Flapjack Octopus: Print-in-place. No supports needed.
Multicolor 3MFs: Compatible with PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio, Orca Slicer, etc.
10%-15% Infill.
3 Walls
*Brim recommendation: Due to the somewhat smaller bed footprint provided by the tentacle suckers, I would suggest using a brim to aid in bed adhesion. I recommend setting the brim gap distance to a value of around 0.25mm-0.3mm which will make the brim easier to remove (you may have to enable an Advanced menu set in order to access this setting).
This should generally scale down to about 60%-65% with full articulation, on a well calibrated printer. Your mileage may vary.

Mega great! We printed it on 66% with silk filament. Unfortunately 2 tentacles lose the tip, what could be the reason?

2025-04-18 18:59:28 +0000 UTCThat could be a few things… If you are using “flush to infill” I would turn that off. It saves very little filament, and can cause color bleeding. Your flushing volumes might be too low. Switching from black to a lighter color requires a lot of black to be purged from the nozzle before the next color will come out cleanly. Make sure that the colors you set in your slicer preview are as close to the actual filament color as possible for accurate flushing calculations. If your flushing volume multiplier is lower than 1.0 you might trying increase it a little bit. If your orange filament is somewhat translucent, you could be seeing the black anchoring that the slicer does to interlock the different color sections together. If that’s the case, you would need to find a more opaque orange filament.

2025-04-02 15:44:45 +0000 UTCThis is probably my favorite thing ever! We didn't add a brim, we put purple Elmer's glue on our print plate and had no problem with adhesion. I try to avoid brim at all costs 😄
