I do hate the UK one but as someone who has done GDPR work with his job I am how them companies (discord bluesky through third parties) are using the data if it is accurate. The do a in phone check if age and just sending pass/fail to the company is something I can get behind the card providers and and itch which is related is stuff which scares me more.

2025-08-03 19:33:32 +0000 UTCThis is so infuriating because back when this issue popped up regarding games' ratings after the Hot Coffee GTA III controversy, I thought the Supreme Court determined that forcing retailers to age verify would be unconstitutional since it would be a free speech violation. They determined that such a law would functionally force retailers, vendors, and/or game developers to self-censor their products in order to avoid needing to ID customers since that would be a huge deterrent to sales, thus being an infringement on free speech.
