A casual look at the edit timeline for RGB 106...

Hey everyone, it's Try here. As you may know, we've been doing a LOT of travel lately. We spent some time in the midwest in April, we were in Japan at the end of June, and now we're headed to the west coast (and back to Chicago) over the next week! All of this travel has been for about four or so different documentary projects of various sizes - it's a bit overwhelming, really!

And of course, we're still working on other types of content as well, including RGB episodes. The 4K TV episode (RGB 106) has become a bit of a mammoth - around 45 minutes long - and it covers just about every consideration I can think of regarding building a 4K gaming setup... cables, devices, capture... it's tougher than you might think, but hopefully this video will make it less of a struggle for other people than it was for me! We cover modern 4K consoles, Switch and last-gen 1080p/720p consoles, and of course analog consoles through the OSSC and Framemeister. I really love how the OSSC works in my setup right now!

Since all of this travel, along with day job obligations, has made it a bit tough to stay completely focused on finishing this episode, we wanted to give our supporters on Patreon a look at where it stands. So instead of spoiling the episode, I thought it would be more fun to get a different sort of look at it. I've uploaded a "behind-the-edit" look so you can see where the timeline stands, and get a glimpse at how we're approaching the topic. It took very little of my time to do this sort of preview, so let us know if you want to see teasers like this again in the future, or if there's anything we can do to make it better!

Look for the 4K TV episode in late July, along with a smorgasbord of documentaries, RGB episodes, and other topics through the rest of 2018!

Try what kind of mount did you use for the 2017 LG OLED?

Kelly Greenidge

I’ve always been confused about full/limited rgb. So hopefully I’ll understand all of that stuff after watching this.

One of the Vizio TVs you're talking about in the video is already unavailable to buy online x_x

Jesse DuRona

Really enjoyed this as well. I just got a 4K TV, so I am looking forward to watching this! Will it be released in 4K?

Benjamin Rivers

I really like the section with the black board and your shirt as well!

Johan Jernqvist

I already see some changed in your setup, Try! (ie: those Mackies sitting horizontally on top of your bookshelf speakers). Is it time for another game room tour??

this is great. Would like more videos like this giving an insight into the whole workprocess

Sin Red Zone

Thanks for this! I'm really looking forward to this episode even more than before :-)

Mark Petocz

Argh! Now I can't wait to see the episode even more than before! Any quick spoilers you can give regarding OSSC/Framemeister and upscaling retro consoles to 4K?

John Klimek

I really love this. If this was easy to do please feel free to do more :).

This was great. Thanks very much for sharing.

Dad and Lads Gaming

It's actually just on his PC! He says he gets lots of requests for sharing it, but it's not really set up in such a way that is easy to share, he says. It's a highly customized version of some popular emulation front end thing, I forget what though.

This is great - not only for the progress update but getting some off-the-cuff commentary about the episode will make it a bit more informative, if that makes sense. I'm curious about Drumble's NES emulation setup that's briefly shown - I'd think it's a retropie? The layout is super clean.
