QSound! (CPS1.5 beta 2)
Added 2020-11-20 16:31:00 +0000 UTCIt's taken about 6 weeks of development but the DSP16A chip is now part of our FPGA family. This is the heart of QSound. Yes, we now have QSound, the sound system of CPS2, ready.
So here it is the second beta release of CPS 1.5, introducing QSound. There is still work to do but the experience is way better with the awesome sound effects of these games. Some notes:
1. You need the file qsound.zip to get the sound to play. Place it with the rest of your MAME roms if you use MiSTer.
2. QSound output is triggering artefacts in the digital-to-analogue converters of both MiST and MiSTer. The artefacts are much worse in MiST and can be heard when music stops. In MiSTer it seems to be a noise here and there. This may not occur in the HDMI sound output of MiSTer. I have not tried it yet.
3. NVRAM contents don't get saved so DIP settings do not persist after power down or swapping games. DIP settings are changed via OSD menu by selecting "test" after the game has started.
4. FPGA timings are not clean yet so for a small number of people, games may crash or show strange behaviour.
5. The pause screen is just a place holder for now. It will be ready for next update.
6. All CPS 1.5 original games should work correctly with music.

2020-11-23 07:36:26 +0000 UTCI am sorry the setup can be frustrating. MiSTer isnβt great at telling you why it cannot find a ROM and where it is looking for it. Try this: Move the zips to games/mame. That worked for me and reportedly for other users too.

2020-11-23 07:31:51 +0000 UTCI had the same problem. Am using HDMI output. Turns out my qsound.zip was the older variant that contained qsound.bin instead of dl-1425.bin. What I did was find a qsound_hle.zip file for mame which does contain dl-1425.bin with the right checksum. Renamed that to qsound.zip, put it in my mame roms folder on the mister and now it works!

2020-11-22 03:39:40 +0000 UTCI figured out what I was doing wrong, it was simply down to the file location. I was copying the qsound.zip to \_Arcade\mame instead of \games\mame. It has been a while since I've updated the MiSTer and I'd forgotten about this change in directory structure. Thank you GeorgeSpinner for your assistance.

The only file in the qsound archive is dl-1245.bin, based on the comments above this should work... Unfortunately for me it doesn't, no idea why, this isn't a complaint, but if anyone has ideas please let me know.

You might be able to just rename qsound_hle.zip to qsound.zip, but I extracted dl-1425.bin from qsound_hle.zip and added it to the qsound.zip archive. I got sound after I did that.

They are 2 Kbytes different in size. both of them fail after 1 match. the smaller says "Illegal Instruction" and a bunch of sets of numbers appear on the screen. the larger just hangs. Anyone else having trouble with Slammasters?
