News and Raffle

Antonio Villena has donated a MiSTer case kit to hold a raffle among my patrons. His case has a DB9 connector so you can use a SEGA Genesis (or Atari) controller on it. These controllers have no lag as they don't go through the USB polling. I have received the code to support it from Miguel-T80c and I am looking into integrating it on my cores. All patrons of June will be eligeble for the raffle. I'll announce the winner the first Friday of July.

After looking with no success for a working Out Run board, Travis Brown offered one and it is now safe at home. I agreed with Mr X that he would do System 16, but this one isn't System 16 so I can have the honour of working on it.

I have finished converting the video board of Bubble Bobble. All video subsystem works correctly now in simulation and you can see the output in an attached image. I am working now on the CPU board. The two game CPUs boot up correctly and the struggle to make the MCU work too has started. I'm glad with this progress.

After a long struggle with what seems to be a bug in Quartus FPGA compiler, I got Double Dragon 2 to compile again. I have been able to update it this week. It is more accurate now, better sound balance, modern MRA support, etc. Please update. While looking at this I also improved the accuracy of M6809 based games, so with the update you will get Ghosts'n Goblins too. The accuracy improvement is really very fine grain so I don't think it is noticeable unless you go and measure it. But, we're here for the real thing!

You can get the new RBF and the new MRA via the updater because theypsilon has forked MiSTer official updater and made the change needed so it runs on my jtbin repository. No action needed on your side. Just run the updater and it will self modify and grab new files automatically. The fork only grabs my cores and you still need the other one to get cores from MiSTer devel repositories. If one day the MiSTer devel policy changes and they allow to point to my repo too, we won't need this. But for now I am very happy that theypsilon made this for us.

Antonio Villena ha donado una carcasa de MiSTer para que hagamos una rifa. Esta carcasa tiene conector DB9, que el público español ya conoce bien. Miguel-T80c me pasó el código necesario y ya le dediqué una sesión de trabajo a integrarlo. Aun necesito una sesión más para terminar la integración. Pronto lo veremos funcionando. Los patronos del mes de junio pueden participar en la rifa cuyo ganador se anunciará el primer viernes de julio.

He conseguido convertir la placa de vídeo de Bubble Bobble. Ahora todo el subsistema gráfico funciona correctamente en simulación. Puedes ver adjunta una imagen producida con el código verilog. Ahora he pasado a la placa con las CPU. Los dos Z80 usados para llevar el juego arrancan bien y estoy mirando el funcionamiento del microcontrolador, que será lo más difícil. Estoy contento con el progreso.

Busqué y busqué una placa de Out Run que funcionara. No encontré ninguna pero Travis Brown ha donado una y ya la tengo a salvo en casa. Acordé con Mr X que él haría System 16 pero este juego no es de System 16 así que tendré el honor de trabajar en él.

Más noticias: tras una larga lucha con lo que parece ser un bug del compilador FPGA Quartus, por fin Double Dragon 2 compila otra vez. Puedes descargarlo usando el actualizador. Entre otros cambios, la nueva versión es más precisa en cuanto al M6809. Esas mejoras las he pasado también al Ghosts'n Goblins y DD1. Así que al actualizar recibiréis todas las versiones nuevas.

Finalmente, gracias a theypsilon ya tenemos fork actualizado del updater de MiSTer. Se acabó la penuria de copiar MRAs a mano. Si MiSTer devel tuviera una política más abierta esto no haría falta, pero mientras dure esa política la aportación de theypsilon es gloria bendita.
