While I work to finish up the new version of the Ren'Py tutorial, I thought I'd post a preview of the postcard we're going to send out to July's $10+ sponsors. The second card's art was done by Geckos, artist and coder for Brilliant Shadows. I've always thought of programming as a kind of magic, since it feels like in both cases you're using your mind to make something out of nothing. So this month's card tries to capture that, with Eileen summoning a python out of a spellbook.
Geckos was kind enough to produce a timelapse of the postcard being drawn, so everyone can watch it. One detail that stands out for me is that Geckos asked for some source code as a reference for the runes on the snake. I chose the portion of Ren'Py that manages rollbacks, since to me that's one of the most intricate and magical.
As with every postcard we send out, there will be a calendar on the back. This time, it will be for August. Thank you again for sponsoring Ren'Py!
ps. Here's an action shot of the June Postcard with Tofu, who belongs to Riva Celso of Winter Wolves.
