Unfinished Animation Review: Grumnus.mp4
Added 2025-02-05 23:00:06 +0000 UTCI have some old unfinished animation projects that I've accumulated over the years that've just been languishing on my hard drive. Today I'll be diggin into one of my most robust unfinished works, featuring a depressed yellow man named Grumnus.

Summary
This one dates back to August of 2020; I was super prolific that year, and released 14 increasingly ambitious animations. My creative productivity was in large part due to the lockdown - I was stuck inside and had nothing to do besides make stuff. This vid was my attempt to express the depressive stir crazy feeling that was starting to set in around that time.
The vid was going to be a collaboration with another visual artist, and was going to feature an exchange at the end between Grumnus and a grotesque ghoul, who was to be a manifestation of Grumnus's malaise.
Fun Things To Note
There's a ton of proto-Cave video 1 vibes here: the character is depressed and stuck in a cramped area with very little furniture, shot with mostly 1 wide camera angle, and the Green Liquid Channel even makes its first appearance
- This was also one of my first attempts at making a video where a character engages with an environment in a 3D space, at a time when most of my vids were about shenanigans on the computer
Why Didn't I Finish It?
Weeks went by and my collaborator wasn't really feeling up to it. Very understandable; it was a depressing time. I was also starting to reach a point in my transition where I wasn't really enjoying voicing male characters anymore. Above all, though, I think the bleak mood of the video was too close to how I was actually feeling, and it felt like it was dragging me down. My next project was a much more energetic and silly vid.
