Jess, thank you for covering this case. This was one of the two cases my classmates and I were assigned in Spring 2025, as students in Ramapo College of New Jersey's Investigative Genetic Genealogy Certificate Program. That said, I had absolutely nothing to do with helping restore Mr. McCarthy's identity - as I recall, we only began working on his case with about 3 days remaining in the course. Other students who were much more experienced and capable IGG Practitioners than I worked to solve his case, both during the school term and in the months that followed. I'm so happy that Kenneth has his identity back, may he rest in peace, and may his family have at least some answers. And thank you Jess for emphasizing the urgent need for people to upload their DNA to databases that are open to IGG practitioners. Everyone, if you want to help resolve cases for other families - and maybe even your own family someday - take a DNA test with FamilyTreeDNA, and opt in. If you already taken a DNA test with another testing company, then download your raw DNA file, and upload it to GEDmatch. Especially, ESPECIALLY, if you come from a population that is not well represented in those databases - which is currently pretty much everyone, except for people of Northern European ancestry.
