The closest thing we Americans have to “Victorian” is our Gilded Age (c. 1877-1892) when our aristocracy adopted Victorian values while living in ill-gotten luxury. Then came the Progressive Era, the reaction to the Gilded Age, which is the American equivalent of the British Edwardian Age and the French Belle Époque…
