The rental thing is so frustrating. Mortgages are almost always less than the equivelant rent. If you can show a proven track record that you've always paid your rent on time the then I don't see the problem. The loan is still lent against the house and they can reposses if you default on the mortgage repayments. What you proposed does exist, there are rent to buy properties out there but it's not the norm.
