2025-10-14 02:11:47 +0000 UTCI rewatched this and when we got to the social anxiety princess I'd completely forgotten how ugly the fairy tale land is and how stupid and unappealing the story is. Jenny starts introducing the movie and I go through the exact same journey she describes, and the exact same journey I already went through the first time I watched this preview: "Oh this seems cool! The protagonist looks cute and has a personality and a real problem to overcome! Secret fairy tale lands are a no brainer, they're always cool, this movie must be awesome! Oh... oh no..." Baffling how they messed this up. The fairy tale land looks awful, I hate looking at the villain, and what fixes Barbie's social anxiety is just... discovering that she has magic? A story like this should be so easy and yet they just dropped the ball completely. Maybe it's unfair of me to judge the movie so harshly without even having seen it myself, problem is I'm never GOING to watch a movie that looks like that.

2025-07-18 23:00:52 +0000 UTCThis is my no-stakes Barbie conspiracy theory: YA author Shannon Hale wrote a book called Princess Academy (which ruled my life in 2007), and she said in a blog post that Mattel approached her about a Barbie adaptation, which she turned down (the book is VERY not Barbie). I feel like Barbie Princess Charm School was the serial numbers filed-off adaptation - in fact, it's probably what they would have made even if they'd gotten the book rights haha

2025-06-06 01:32:01 +0000 UTCI was just watching an anime that includes a school that only nobles, who are the only people in the kingdom who have mana and can use magic, can go to. But the main noble character enrolls her commoner servant pretty much just so he could do lackey stuff for her at school. So yep, it's not a YA novel, but that extreme class dynamic in a school exists lol. And tbh, there are a lot of anime that include the 'poor but smart girl in a school full of ultra-rich studly dudes who unofficially make her their servant' thing. Hana Yori Dango and Ouran Host Club are two classics.

All the crushes and drama are outlined in it too. Doesnβt really fit with the topic of your video, but it is a pretty cool time capsule. Also, to my knowledge, MyScene was the first doll line to do this, which is crazy cause now every doll line does animated shorts
