So I decided to post this preview up for all tiers, merry christmas! Thank you for supporting me in 2021

2024-09-22 20:19:29 +0000 UTCPrincess and the Pauper still slaps- the songs are bangers and the plot is both complicated enough to move at a decent clip but also formatted perfectly to add in new twists when you recreate it with your dolls. Reenact the reveals, but also throw in a "oh noooo the carriage drove into a river and I'm hanging off a cliff!!!" where there wasn't one before. I rewatched the Barbie movies I grew up with and most of them are boring as an adult since (for example) the ballet ones often have like 5 minute uninterrupted dance scenes. Princess and the Pauper has characters who constantly scheme and counter-scheme and react to the various twists in the road, sometimes accidentally sabotaging their allies because they don't know what they're planning.

To adapt it for children’s consumption would castrate the ethos of ballet: how love can be easily deceived upon and destructive to the self. That’s why when the Barbie returned to its root of adapting Ballets with Barbie and the Pink Shoes in 2013 there was a meta aspect to Barbie’s role as a transmigator(?) into these ballet stories such as Giselle. This allows Barbie to dance the part and acknowledge the original story without succumbing to the fate of the heroines.

2023-03-13 20:51:41 +0000 UTCidk if im just sleep deprived or if this is truly the most wonderful preview of a video, but i cackled, i gasped, i had flashbacks. and i felt betrayed by the swan lake review, but i either watched it dubbed in my country, or i never realized the horrifying voice acting, but that entire soundtrack is burned forever in my brain, i wanted to be skunk girl or forrest queen so bad, even the raven daughter was iconic to me. cant wait to see her review the pegasus barbie one!! my name is close enough to pegasus that my non english speaking brain was amazed as a child, and i watched it at least once a week. if this video gets discontinued, i will cry.

The sound of her footsteps on the stone floor in that basement have been echoing in my head for years... and i say that in a loving way :D I am just now realizing that this movie might be part of the reason why i love that cold concrete smell of basements so much.. maybe on some primal level it makes me feel like Barbie As Rapunzel... oh the whimsy of it all

Guess the folks at Mattel really had a thing for Rapunzel rewrites in the late 90's / early 00's...

I distinctly remember thinking it was going to be odious and then being like... actually that's a pretty legit animated musical. My sister would always watch one movie on repeat for like three months, and this was definitely one of the better obsessions.

Also, moving chronologically we can see how/if the Barbie movies evolve over time. I'm looking forward to the rest of this! Never thought I'd say that about Barbie related content lol.

I think (or maybe this was the Jem dolls) that the commercial made it seemed like the dolls danced by themselves, so I was disappointed when I got one as a gift and discovered that you had to move the doll yourself.

It also makes me wonder about character voice over work vs. celebrity voice over work. Unless I had already heard you do a specific character, I could not pick a voice you did for a new character (yet, I guess). While a lot of roles in animations prefer that celebrities use *their own* voice as recognizable and proof of billing.

It’s the only version I can think of where the relationship between her and Rapunzel is one of pure indentured servitude as opposed to simple kidnapping and somewhat fair trading in guise of a mother-daughter relationship. 3. Last, but certainly not least, she almost starts a full out war between two kingdoms simply because she’s a woman scorned.

And they defeat giant rats with their care bear stare. Scared the absolute pants off of me as a tiny child.

2021-12-21 01:26:21 +0000 UTCI read somewhere in the 80s, you couldn't advertise a toy during it's own cartoon, which hurt Jem & the Holograms because Mattel advertised Barbie & the Rockers toys during Jem and Hasbro couldn't do the same to Barbie. (Incidentally Jem ALSO went back in time to various periods, including attending Woodstock.) Thanks for the sneak peek, looks great! I thought I hadn't seen any of these ones but then I had a flashback to the Swan Princess one as soon as I saw those horrible animal-children.
