I've watched the original Scooby-doo series a few times and enjoy it but its not really for the humor or anything, I think I just find old cartoons from before I was born really interesting, and the animation aspect of it. idk just something about it I find very charming. I wouldn't really call myself a Scooby-doo fan though cause I really have only watched the original series and a few of the movies (watched Cyber Chase and the alien one a lot as a kid). This one did seem good for kids on that level though of just general silliness and fun backgrounds and characters.

Watching this again a year later: I don't really get why you liked the Jack O'Lantern so much, or really the movie in general.
I'm not really a Scooby-Doo "fan", but I watched a lot of Scooby-Doo when I was younger and while it was never a series of high art and masterful writing this one definitely feels low on the list of "movies that used their concept well". More well-regarded Scooby-Doo movies at least have a solid story, better animation, and a few big set pieces, but I feel like this one had a really loose story and... I think that the idea of a ghost train and land where Halloween monsters live are all great, but I've seen it done better!

Wallace Shawn you wild for this one. His whole career has been a real rollercoaster and Kevin from Kids in the Hall reminded me of the half of it in his (idk if it was short lived but I’m not googling now) podcast with WS was on once and itwasgood. So cool that you're going to the Efteling! It's near where I grew up, so I've been there hundreds of times. My favorite attraction is 'het Spookslot' (the Ghost Castle), which sadly is closing down for good. I'm not sure if it's still open, but if it is, I'm 100% sure you'll enjoy it. Be sure to try and opening the door in the far end when you first enter. Nobody tries that anymore. :-)

oh my gosh i'm still in the middle of watching this, but your comment about the Diane Duane book series about wizards made me literally cry out because!! I read them and stopped for the EXACT SAME REASON. I think I only read two of them, but I absolutely fell in love with the second book's shark sidekick character!! And I was so devastated when he sacrificed himself, I just refused to read any more of them LMFAO.. I still have that shark book, it's one of my treasures. But, I was just so glad to hear someone else having the same experience as me with these books.. 🙈

I think the Star Wars hotel sounds like an interesting video, definitely. But if you can't reconcile the cost of the hotel with the benefits you'll get from the experience and the video views, don't do it. You work hard for your money, you shouldn't feel like you have to spend it on anything that makes you feel this conflicted. My small town has 2 magicians. Which feels weird cause we're only 2500 people total. But I guess it's a mountain town so it attracts some weird characters. They're pretty awful though. I saw a performance at the farmer's market once, and it was pretty bad. She stopped after, like, 10 minutes, and the person who was MC-ing (and also the day's musical act) was like, "Give it up for *insert magician name*. Her aunt just died so this was really rough." Which was a very weird thing to announce to a crowd of small children. God I love small towns in the southwest.

Sorry for the double comment here, but fwiw, a big part of the reason I support people's patreons is because I want them to be able to do stuff like go on overpriced novelty vacations. For myself, I make in a year what this Patreon brings in in two months-- maybe one month, depending on backer striation. But the reason I back it and others like it anyway is that it makes me happy to know that creative people whose work is meaningful or fun for thousands of people can experience fun and joy in their own lives. So tl;dr, it's great to be sensitive to the fact that people like me can't afford the stay, and that even the existence of such a luxury in the light of our poverty is kind of gross. If you do end up making content about it, please do acknowledge that. But also, I hope you go and have an amazing vacation. That's kind of why I give my two bucks, you know?

Thanks for this super fun video! I was relieved that a spooky topic won this month. When I heard Lauren Bacall’s voice I couldn’t believe it lol. What a random and amazing pull for a Scooby Doo movie.
I’m excited about all the future content you mentioned, including the Star Wars hotel, but I totally understand your conundrum. I agree that providing demand at all seems like it would be encouraging more of a bad thing. However, there are definitely going to be other reviewers who go and paint the rosiest picture possible, no matter what the real experience is like. By going yourself you might provide a more critical and honest perspective than potential guests could find elsewhere.

Happy (late) Halloween!
Although I enjoy a lot of “Scooby Doo” cartoons, and even own some merch, I can’t say I really like the “title” character at all… I’d much prefer if he was just a mute cartoon-y dog, and wasn’t so anthropomorphized. I certainly don’t think he should be the lead… give Velma more screen-time, dammit!
As for the Star Wars Hotel dilemma… personally, I love the idea of being immersed in a sci-fi/fantasy world like that, but also find watching theme-park staff “role-playing” absolutely excruciating (I also hate on-the-street “vox-pop” interviews and hidden-camera shows, so clearly it’s a glitch in my brain somewhere). I wouldn’t pay crazy-money for an experience like that, and I don’t feel you should have to either, just for our entertainment/curiosity. But if you *do* go, please be sure to set the space-horses free, so they run through the casino and spoil all the evil-rich-people’s fun!

I’ve loved Halloween since I was a small child, and you’d think I’d love the spooky ooky locations, but weirdly I don’t remember any part of it except for the transformations of the Scooby Gang into monsters. I mean, I was working on homework for Halloween.
I think my parents got a couple trick-or-treaters. Maybe a dozen? Most of the people in the complex where I live are medical or dental students. I'm a grad student of a different variety.
I'm very uncomfortable with the unsecured trap door.

The fun thing I did for Halloween was to watch Godzilla vs Kong. My flatmate refuses to watch scary films so we couldn't watch an actual horror :( Seems like Scooby Doo had a more coherent plot than that at least, lol.

EDIT: Also, I'm reminded by your pointing out of the poorly-integrated CGI in this movie, but I went back and watched Disney's Tarzan on your recommendation and, even after seeing things as modern and visually spectacular as Moana or Coco, I genuinely couldn't comprehend the sheer talent on show in the blending of CGI and traditional animation in that movie. It was absolutely spell-binding.

Excited for the Evermore vide lol. Went last night and they did a good job for Halloween. I think it’s a fun thing to do if you’re local, but it’s been so weird to hear that it’s become known amongst the broader theme park community. The only other park we have in the state is Lagoon, which is an old amusement park that’s not even corporate like six flags; it’s staffed entirely by high schoolers lol. So in contrast Evermore is a huge amount of effort.

If I can suggest a Christmas movie: Christmas in the Heartland. It’s basically The Prince and the Pauper with two teenage girls at Christmas time but it takes a turn in the last 15 minutes or so that is simply BONKERS. (Christmas Town is another favorite of mine primarily because it looks like it cost five dollars to make and there’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it clip in “Santa’s workshop” that is literally just green screen footage of a Costco. Not even an interesting aisle; just the jewelry counter and office supplies.)

100% am gonna need a Star Wars hotel review
2021-11-01 13:55:29 +0000 UTC
Me too! They were my favorite growing up, and they really hold up! (Except for A Wizard Alone. When she did the update, she rewrote large portions of it to be more reflective of our current understanding of autism but I'd say it's still pretty iffy re: harmful tropes.) I read the millennium editions recently, and I really think the cute sidekick dying only happened in the first book? There's death in the other books but it's not really cute sidekick characters except the first time.

I'm very intrigued by you reviewing the Star Wars hotel and I'm glad you got in the first month. For the same reasons you mentioned/your reviews of Pandora and Galaxy's Edge, I think the earlier you go, the more true the experience will be. After the first couple runthroughs, I can't imagine the cast members/actors being as enthusiastic and fully immersed. I'm never gonna do it, especially not in the first month, so I'm glad a content creator who didn't like Rogue One will get to review it.

This was a great Halloween treat!! Also can anyone tell me is the evermore video going to be about a tv show, movie, themepark land or some combination of those things? If it's about a media thing I'll watch it first like vampire diaries. I assume it's not about the Taylor swift album

the existence of supernatural stuff in Scooby Doo varies from series to series. The first few eras of scooby doo were very delivered very 'realistically'. In the same tone as books like Hardy Boys or Boxcar kids or Encyclopedia Brown. There is nothing supernatural.
The 13 Ghosts Of Scooby-Doo was the first big series to start being entirely set in a supernatural universe. It was meh. Also it was such a weird gang. Just scooby, shaggy, and daphne. Not the team I would have imagined. I'm pretty sure this is the era when ghoul school came out.
"A Pup named scooby doo" and "What's New Scooby-Doo" were the ones I grew up on and they also have nothing supernatural. However all the movies in the early 2000s were set in the the "What's New Scooby-Doo" universe, but the movies almost always contain real supernatural elements. This is when that zombie island movie came out.
It was something that was definitely known, but never really explained that the TV shows were for normal mysteries and the movies were for supernatural stuff and aliens and sci fi future tech and whatever. If you want another carnival ground themed show, Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase wasn't awful. But I wouldn't super recommend any scooby doo movies to an adult.
Apparently the latest scooby doo iteration has a lot of interesting characterization, but I can't watch it because scooby talks constantly, and I hate listening to him.

2021-11-01 05:56:02 +0000 UTC
The whole Goblin Scepter crisis happened because Shaggy couldn't not debunk a magician. I know your whole career is proving ghosts and monsters are actually shady land developers in rubber masks but damn, he's just a carnival magician, take a day off.
Also it is a shame they didn't have a song for the ghost train. Experts inform me that the only thing cooler than a train is a ghost train, and the only thing cooler than a ghost train is a country song about a ghost train.
I'd absolutely want to see an Evermore-style breakdown of the Star Wars hotel. Not as much as I'm looking forward to Evermore but still. And dang, if two days there cost more than the entire Netherlands trip, absolutely make that tax-deductible.
Oh yes and that ghost Squishmallow is ADORABLE

If you really wanna do the hotel/make a video about it, go for it. I'm sure I'd love a video of you doing it, but I do personally think the hotel is way overpriced, and I would never do it unless there were a much cheaper version without the scheduled activities, which don't sound fun to me at all

Fun Fact: my school district’s superintendent growing up claimed to be a brief meme in Korea for having a scary good Donald Duck impression. I think a star wars hotel video would do pretty well if it's not wort the price because people love to hear that things out of their budget aren't worth it. But if it's actually cool people probably won't want to hear about it. Personally I'm not a huge star wars fan but I am interested in the technology behind it and all that? So idk. I'd watch a video on it, but I'm sure you have other video ideas you could devote that time to that cost considerably less.

I went once as a child with some family friends (one of whom I visited recently to meet her newborn boy and as I'm typing this I'm realizing he's closer to our age at the time of that visit than we are now, truly the unending march of time is the spookiest scare of all) and I remember not much other than the bins being themed and pretty frickin' whimsical. I almost booked tickets the first time De Efteling was mentioned in a ramble (I think it was right after De Efteling poll option failed to win) but this second mention has really lit a fire under me. I think I know how I'm gonna spend my birthday in 2022.

I hate bad horror movies and I was definitely not going to watch one just for the audio commentary, so I'm really glad you went this direction with the video. I was also lowkey spooked by how the first 3 things that showed up were cute ghosts, a spider and a dark ride, all things you've talked about before and said that you like lol. The only disappointment was the lack of a Pumpkaboo plush in frame :(
Imo if the Star Wars Hotel was that expensive you should absolutely make a video about it to make some of that money back, idc if the review is harsh (in fact I think most people will prefer it that way). I'm personally interested in it since it's such a crazy thing that like, exists and can be experienced.

I'd love to see a Star Wars hotel video, and it's your money, you can do whatever you want with it! If you're feeling guilty about giving that much to a corporation, though, you might consider uploading the video as a fundraiser, perhaps to an organization in the Orlando area (which has a high poverty rate), to help out the community more directly than by paying Disney a bunch of $$

2021-11-01 00:59:54 +0000 UTC
Ok, so far I've only listened to the updates so far because I just finished lots of university work thoughts and it's really late in my time zone and I have to get up early lol so here are my thoughts:
a) I'm 100% down for the Beanie Babies video. This whole thing how it started sounds really interesting. Also, I've heard there was a big controversy with the inventor Ty Warner? Something about tax evasion? I didn't fully understand what was going on. Anyway, really looking forward to understanding this whole thing once and for all. I think there's even an upcoming movie about Ty Warner somewhere called "Plush" lol (https://www.indiewire.com/2020/12/2020-black-list-best-unproduced-scripts-1234604589/).
b) Not that related, but I have a recommendation for a good fun Halloween movie- Existenz, the ultimate pro gamers movie lol. It's clever, funny and like super camp. If you enjoy stuff like Edgar Wright's comedies and satire stuff like Red Eye and Evil Dead 2 then you'll enjoy this one. Probably the most fun I've had in a while from watching a movie. It's also probably my 3rd fav movie from David Cronenberg after Dead Ringers and Eastern Promises which are like dark serious and depressing dramas lol. Wasn't really the reason I suggested Cronenberg as a ramble topic. I was more curious to hear a hot take on his famous body horror stuff because I myself have mixed feelings on stuff like The Fly and The Brood. But anyway, Existenz was really fun, Dead Ringers and Eastern Promises made me feel horrified and depressed and I enjoyed all 3- that's all I have to say about Cronenberg lol. There's an obscure unfulfilled project from the maker of Avatar I found online that I wanna submit as a ramble topic that might relate to a motif of the ramble videos...
c) **The Star Wars hotel**- hmmm... I thought about this for a bit. When it comes to harsh reviews that I really enjoyed watching I think about hbomberguy's RWBY review and Yhara Zayd's Skins videos because they explore the history of what they talk about, they talked about really important stuff like over sexualizing teenage characters and misrepresentations of groups and issues and they explained their passion and their experience without acting like a victim of a real personal tragedy (or like start yelling and being too hyperbolic like the angry reviewers). I've never seen RWBY or Skins, and I feel like those videos were really informative and fun.
I don't really know that much about the Star Wars hotel. But I do really enjoy learning about places and things I haven't heard before in an interesting and entertaining way (aka why I watch your content). And the video might be a great idea to explain whatever the hell the Disney World Genie service is supposed to be, explore the shady stuff and how Disney handled their guests and CMs during Covid. My suggestion would be to go and give this a chance if you think this is a worthy topic (and as long as it doesn't kill your finances), but don't talk too much about this publicly or announce the visit on twitter because that would just gain bad faith attention. Maybe you can actually do this like you did with some of your other videos and wait a while after you come back. Wait a few months and see if your prediction about the hotel- that could be really interesting. This can actually be a really great spiritual sequel to the Star Wars land video. You know what this gets my vote!

I don't know how universal this is but the apartment building I live in doesn't allow kids to trick or treat the apartments. Outside pandemic times there is a table at the lobby where people can get candy but the kids have to go to actual houses to trick or treat.

This was such a fun Halloween ramble 🎃 The Star Wars Hotel sounds like a real catch 22, I understand the apprehension. I guess part of me wonders if not going would be something you might regret more, in that 'its a transitory experience that may vanish pretty fast' way that theme parks can have. But the cost... I looked it up just now and. Yikes.
Also the Efteling grimoire sounds so neat!! Are you considering doing a fairytale framing device in the video using it, like in the old Disney movies?? :D

Hopefully it's okay to give my $.02 on the Star Wars hotel dealio: I feel like it's a lot of investment for nebulous return. I feel like you run the risk of earning their ire no matter what opinions you have about the hotel, plus it sounds like you're orders of magnitude more excited to go to the European theme park, so I think that, since it sounds like you're putting more stock into going overseas, investing the money into that instead seems like a more rewarding option.

Totally get your apprehension about the Star Wars hotel, although honestly I don’t think there’s a way to navigate this without someone interpreting your decision in the most uncharitable way possible. Re: the Lifetime/Hallmark movie video idea, I'm just going to throw this out there. There's this company that makes Lifetime/Hallmark movies, but Rated R, called Passionflix. Like imagine a Kathy Ireland Christmas movie on The Hallmark Channel, but with cursing and sex. That's not an exaggeration, they have actual Christmas romantic comedies complete with F bombs and boobs. The sets, Canadian actors, Canadian locations, production values, editing, and music are pure Lifetime, just not stripped down to be family programming. It's kind of fascinating honestly, and I was surprised when I first heard about it. They don't have that many movies, and apparently it's now available as an addon channel with Prime, so it's easily accessible. It might be ripe for some sort of video.

Very fun ramble! I feel like if it was me trying to decide whether to cover SW hotel I would ultimately land on going there for fun (not for work/content) and then make a video about some other slightly more political topic to kind of like. Ethically balance.

On the topic of the Star Wars hotel:
If I was your friend or even like an amicable acquaintance, I'd be saying "No! DON'T go to that! Why would ANYONE?"
BUT as a content-consuming audience member who is NOT your friend, I'm instead insistent on being the devil on the other shoulder, you know, cackling menacingly and whatnot. Because I want to watch that video, and I'm okay with YOUR money being used to manifest it.
Please, Jenny, make the wrong decision.

I think a harsh review is what it should be! Once the Star Wars hotel opens, there’s going to be hundreds of videos showing off all the Easter eggs and cool perks, but they’re going to gloss over everything else. When I want to see a review, I want to see it all, not just an extended advertisement

I think if you're this worried about the star wars hotel being good content, and this worried about how people will perceive it (especially with so many assholes on Twitter intent on interpreting all your actions in as bad faith as possible), you shouldn't go. Especially since, at least from my perspective, you don't even seem all that excited about going. Your biggest priority should be making the content you *want* to make. Star Wars Hotel Video shouldn't be the next Endgame video, where you feel obligated to make it because you spent all that money.

i think the star wars hotel sounds like a cool experience to be able to go to opening month

i do think a star wars hotel video would be interesting because there's thousands of people who want to know what the experience is like but can't go whether because of geography or cost or whatnot. going into it fully aware of the absurdity of being able to fund the trip would help ground whatever content you might choose to make from it.

I would love to see your Take on the Scary Godmother movies. The Animation is bizarre, but the Halloween atmosphere, characters and the writing are all incredible and still enjoyable into adulthood.

If you do a video over any Christmas movie, it should be the third Vanessa Hudgens clone Christmas universe

I am super intrigued about a video on the Star Wars hotel. Also, the Beanie Baby video sounds like it will be amazing so I'm glad to hear you're still planning to make it eventually.

Had to pause at the mention of Diane Duane’s Young Wizards series. I thought I was the only person who read those lol. I read 1-8 or 9 and stopped when I was in high school. The cute sidekick dying thing stopped after the first three or so books, and the series is pretty solid overall. I think she’s since updated them to reflect current technology.

I'd definitely be excited for some Diary of the Dead content. When that movie came out, I tried to watch it as an actual horror movie, and I just couldn't do it.

not to extol the virtues of sweet street too much but they also have these amazing gluten free brownies- they're so good I used to just shove three in my purse whenever my college served them

at some point you blinked and there was a "BINK!" sfx and I thought wow this is getting pretty rich, production values wise, but i think it was just a serendipitous synch with the scooby doo. but if there was actually a single sfx for your blinking and you snuck it in there and did it only once, yashir koach!

Regarding the Star Wars hotel, I'd be interested in what it's like in a "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous" kinda way. I think it'd be funny to see you review it in-character as a 0.1% Naboo royalty type.
The only path forward is to lean into the indulgence 🙌

This was amazing thank you Jenny! I would love to see Star Wars hotel content. As someone that will never be able to afford it myself, seeing it through your point of view would be cool, and I know we can trust you to give an honest assessment of the experience.

I would love videos on beanie babies and star wars hotel! when talking about the star wars in particular, people will always have opinions on how much money you should spend. but I think reviewing it would be super interesting.

Evermore and Beanie Babies are still the ones I'm more interested in.... But whatever order makes sense for you is what you should do.

I am one of the people who can't handle gore and when I saw the poll, I kind of wrote this video off for myself. I can't put into words how appreciative I am that you went with a Scooby Doo level of scare.
