Ramble: Top 10 (and Bottom 10) Disney Animal Sidekicks

The long awaited...

Ramble: Top 10 (and Bottom 10) Disney Animal Sidekicks

Comments

that sounds amazing

ANTLICKER

Brother bear famously has a commentary track on the bonus features where it is done not by the director but by the voice actors of the moose in character as the moose. Genuinely, it has the moose watching the film and commentating on it and I have not seen it (yet) but I hear it's god awful.

Smurfette

Jenny: *hates cockroaches* Me: I can fix her…

Chris

Bold take listing a car and a snowman as an animals. I was also going to put gargoyles here but i think it skirts the line barely

Robert Romero Jr

I said to myself "if pascal is the first name she says, I'm gonna eat my shirt" and then GASPED. Is this how I find out I'm psychic?

Autumn Taylor

I just started watching Jenny's Patreon videos and it is in fact, 1 day before Halloween.

Vaelyhn

New patron working my way through the backlog. I think this Ramble is my favourite so far! I enjoyed all the spicy hot takes.

Munchy Lunchco

FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE WHO HATES MONKEYS

Miranda Kanowsky

Two interwoven numbered lists moving in opposite directions simultaneously? At this point Jenny's just showing off her numbered list technique mastery.

stuffedchicken

I can't watch any of these old youtube videos

XX Y

Same, does anyone know why?

Katherine Allen

I’m getting “video is unavailable on a lot of these older videos :(

Arthur Menkin

Anyone know where I can get this shirt? Super cute.

Brittany Gibson

Figment is not one that I would of thought of as an animal sidekick but I completely agree! I love Figment and he deserves the number 1 spot.

Kaylee Shook

I completely agree re: Pascal. I thought he was completely extraneous to the plot and had no context. It would have made much more sense if he was a bird, since she could have made friends with him up in her tower when he flew by one day.

Joseph Genser

Zazu, pua (I am not immune to cuteness simply for merch sake, I’m a sanrio fan), bruni/the nokk, mushu, and those little geese in bonnets from the aristocats. Oh and if animal sidekicks in animal themed movies are allowed then I love the Scottie dog from lady and the tramp.

Magicalbunbun

I wish these had photos in them

Conor Bugman

I've always liked Evinrude from the Rescuers. I think he counts, even if the main characters were also animals. I like dragonflies, and his name is a creative pun.

Brian Perkins

Where can I see your horse???

Jay Taylor

Hayabusa is my favorite

Katherine Lachcik

Holup, jenny streams?

Mathew Lau

The phrase "plush closet" brought me a lot of joy, thank you.

Jonathan Soper

That bow is so cute!

Danielle Palazzolo

I was going to argue that Philippe > all other Disney horses, but that could just be because the horse that hung out in the paddock opposite my guy's was a massive Belgian who was Philippe's spitting image, and he was so damn adorable I've developed an affection for the breed as a whole. Philippe IS great on his own merits, though.

Molly Pop (fka tinker__hell)

Team Olaf! I feel like people never got past his intentionally (?) ugly design.

Eric Liuu

Couple of things: Dinky and Boomer over Big Mama?? No mention of Lion King sidekicks like Timon, Pumbaa, or Zazu? Even if you hate them which is understandable. Zazu especially though, he's like combination Iago and Sebastian only slightly less interesting than both and the second half of the movie just kind of ruthlessly forgets about him. And Bagheera is great, yeah

Callum Moore

Yes to Sebastian! I. love. Sebastian. Iago is great, too. And I hate that firefly!!

Maija V

I was hoping Figment would be on the list so yay! I'm just as obsessed with Figment haha, every few months I debate on whether I should get a Figment tattoo.

Samantha Burns

No mention of Zazu?

Eric

Regarding Benny the Cab: In the world of Roger Rabbit, Benny easily fills the emotional spot for "animal sidekick" in that he is a non-human assistant, so no objections from the Animal Topics Coalition, which has (in the past) officially stretched the definition of "animal" to include Alita and Johnny Depp, when it proved expedient. And for those keeping score at home, this same broad definition of "animal sidekick" also covers Olaf the Snowman. Thanks again!

Steve Ray

I'm with you on Olaf, I like him too! I appreciate that he is a relatively understated comic relief character that feels organic (and emotionally important) to the plot rather than feeling tacked on, and he's pretty funny. It's also nice that he's a kind supporting character that doesn't feel bland. I was 1000% ready to hate him when he was first announced, but I think he's pre decent.

Lackaday

This setting is lacking in giant porgs

5in100ents

I actually never realized how much I disliked some of the characters on your bottom list. Especially the gargoyles and the thought of all of them being imaginary friends for Quazimoto(I probably didn't spell that right).

Bridget Mcdaniel

I would indeed like a whole video on just the history and Imagineering principles of Star Wars land

Avia Lewis

I don't know why i had this idea in my head that you had a burning hatred for Pumba but whenever I saw this topic on the poll that's what came to mind. So when you didn't mention him I got so confused. Where did I get this idea that you hated Pumba from

2009JoRose

My dad is an incredibly serious person. We only ever buy him books about World War 2 for Christmas and he almost always retreats to the grill—a Big Green Egg, naturally—when company is over. He is dad level 9000, okay. Chaotic neutral in his white socks and Birkenstocks, all right? So one day, me and him are watching television, and Enchanted is on. He clicks on it and is nearly giddy with excitement when he says “Oh good, it’s at the beginning.” I ask him if he’s ever seen this movie and he says yes emphatically. “It has a funny little squirrel in it;” he proceeds to HAW the entire movie over this little squirrel being an absolute crackhead. And this was about in 2009, only a few years after the film released in theater. We didn’t have the DVD in our stacks. I have no idea if my dad saw a preview on tv and immediately gravitated towards the squirrel and marched to the movie theater to see it. I did not recognize my father, this man in his standard pose in his recliner, hand down the front of his boxers, choking on his own laughter at this methhead bushy-tailed rodent. I’m not sure that that was my dad in that moment.

Austin T

i would LOVE a D23 video, and a part one to star wars!! whatever the heck you wanna do!!!! i enjoyed this video so much please keep doing what you're doin!

scootfaltzbald

Yes please do the D23 video! And I think doing a part 1 and part 2 sounds like a good idea

Aubrey Nyberg

I ran into you at D23 dressed as short haired Rapunzel and I absolutely loved talking to you and thought, I should really up my patreon support to Jenny, but I mean you've now insulted Pascal so I think contractually we're at war. That out of the way, I would love to hear your thoughts about D23, especially all the Epcot news.

SweetAlissum

Would love a D23 recap video!

Reade Bramer

way to bait furries by using the terms 'top' and 'bottom' in conjunction with 'disney animal' get those views gurl, i respect the hustle

Alexander Weir

Or apropos of this video, if you wanted to just focus on Epcot stuff from D23 and rant about IPCot and tie it into your Figment fandom and THE BOY - I'm for sure here for that

Donald Guy

Yes Figment! I loved that ride so dearly as a kid, and have an absolute soft spot for Figment to this day. I have to admit I am one of those people who despises Olaf, but I really appreciate your perspective on him.

Annette Huckell

I would definitely be hype for D23 video; following Jenny's tweets made me want to hear more. I started watching someone else's D23 video yesterday and then was like "ugggh but I don't already know and like this person enough to connect to this somewhat arms length content through them!" and gave up

Donald Guy

The sidekick characters from Brother Bear were played by Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis. They came from SCTV and they were basically voicing their Bob & Doug McKenzie characters.

Island Boy

thank you for the honourable mentions for chandu, little orange bird, and albert the monkey! i, also, viserally hate monkeys bc they're too close to human but not enough to be rational and its not something i want to deal with– but my exception is albrt. love that little idiot. as for the video ideas– YES to both. split it up if that flows better and feels better for you, and then also pls do your hot d23 takes. if you have show floor footagethat'd be neat as hell as well, but also not the end of the world if you dont bc you talking is hella good enough. thank you for all that you do!!

SamichMachine

I love Figment! I still have my plush from 30+ years ago.

Jessica & Mark Stadul

I just worked out why I had an immediately negative reaction to splitting the SW video; I only just watched Lindsay Ellis' Hobbit three parter...and presumably assumed that Jenny was planning to exploit New Zealand film workers?

Neil Dutton

I'd like to open a pancake restaurant and call it "Jenny's Hot Cakes" where we would serve bold exotic toppings and combinations that might seem different and upsetting at first but once you try them you realize just how delicious they are!

Luis

A two-part Star Wars Land video sounds good to me. Maybe even a third follow-up after the new ride opens. And a review of D23 for the announcements and how it compared to Celebration.

Ford Prefect

Is a Bronycon video still happening?

Flora

Have you ever done a 2 part video? It sounds like your plan to divide them up would let each part be pretty self contained. I vote for, any video that you want to do. I'm helpful.

Neil Dutton

I thought the same thing! Idk if it's the lightning or the deep blue of her shirt or both, but my goodness they really pop in this video.

Josh Draper

I have a soft spot for Olaf because of the actor's previous work. I saw Josh Gad perform as William Barfeé in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee when it was playing in New York and felt I recognized Olaf's voice actor without really being sure who it was the first time I saw Frozen. So Olaf is tied to a good memory for me on top of being a good character.

Erica Olliges

Who Framed Roger Rabbit? still gives me nightmares but Benny the Cab is a good sidekick.

James Murphy

I would LOVE for you to make a video about the history of Journey Into Imagination!

TheDoodleFox

Pegasus is reeling from this result. A bird AND a horse? You tried to hard Pegasus, it was too much. Also, you're a jerk.

Neil Dutton

I LOVE Benny the Cab! You were right about there being hot takes btw, I really thought Abu was going to be number one on the top sidekicks...huge plot twist.

Josh Liam

I think a D23 video would be fun! Not just to hear what was announced but also your take on everything

Jack Loar

How about a video on the Haunted Mansion 50th anniversary?

1000thghost

I think your other video ideas sound way more exciting that the D23 video, but I think I might be in the minority!

Karenza

IAGO IS #2!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? :) :) :)

1000thghost

Breaking up your very long Star Wars story into separate parts and remastering the OT parts? I approve, and I hope there is an Anakin Force Ghost

Michelle Irene Hanson

i cannot BELIEVE you did pascal dirty like this

Alyssa Schultz

I don’t even care about Star Wars but I’d be super excited about those videos. I like when other people are excited about things.

Devin Beliveau

TEAM OLAF!! Two days before my birthday this video was a nice gift. I really like the idea of splitting up the Star Wars video it makes sense on so many levels. The new setup is cool too especially if it helps making videos easier.

Luis

#1 on the top list, yes... YES... A LOVABLE FELLOW!

Anna Bohrer

I think splitting up the Galaxy's Edge video would be a good idea, especially with the structure you described!

Tyler Wynkoop

I have very little Disney-character knowledge (beyond what I’ve picked up from your previous videos), but this was a fun watch, and alternating from “best” to “worst” kept it lively. Also, love your casual use of the term “plush closet”, as if that’s something that everyone has in their home! Makes me wish I had a walk-in Funko closet, where I could just go and look at them being all cute on their shelves. Sigh… I say “Yes, please!” to a D23 recap, and fully support the idea of two-part “Star Wars Land” video. Obviously I’d prefer a trilogy, but that's probably asking too much…? Oh, and Happy Halloween everyone! :)

Dee Crosier

It sounds like splitting the video into two parts in the way that you mentioned would make the whole project a lot more manageable given the continuous flow of additional information about star wars land. Maybe set a cut-off date for yourself and after that date, if more stuff about galaxys edge comes out, it just won't be within the scope of the video. Unless there's like a really good reason, like it's a game-changer.

Damian Behymer

I'd love to hear your thoughts from D23 because I know I have some. And PLEASE do the Disney Creepypasta they're honestly my guilty pleasure so I think that would be fun

Addie Pointer

hell yeah olaf love!

Wakelyn

Chandu. CHANDU!!!!!!! is the best

Katherine Evans

Wonderful! On behalf of all 408 registered members of the Animal Topics Coalition (we have more in reserve, just in case), thank you SO much for this spectacular Ramble!

Steve Ray

D23 recap

Blue Corn

Two part Star Wars land would be good, makes sense if one is all background and the other is the park experience like you said. A quick D23 video would also be neat.

Crystal Robinson

I wasn't really rooting on this topic but it turned out to be a fun one! D23 video is okay...but I think we already kind of saw your brief reactions on Twitter so maybe if there's something new you really want to put out...I'll enjoy it anyways:)

Mariayuri Kumagae

Take as long as you need with the reshooting for the Star Wars Land video Jenny, your Avatar video is like the best video you’ve ever made in my opinion so don’t rush this Star Wars one! Looking forward to part 1 in mid September like you said though :)))

Dan 371814

Great ramble on a subject that I have absolutely no interest in (and yet you made it interesting). Oh and the colour balance looked pretty good. Thanks Jenny.

Bruce Climas

I would love if you broke up the star wars video. I am totally in love with your avatar video, so ever since you announced that you would be doing a Star Wars Land video I have been so excited and I just want to see part one as soon as possible. Also I love your d23 tweets and would love to hear even more of your thoughts on these announcements!!!

gossipgoose

It's here, I'm so excited! Five bonus bottom items! What a treat! I love the staggering, it was really fun to go back and forth. I audibly gasped at the initial bottom sidekick; I love Pascal and he would've been one of my favourites, though a big part of that might just be how much I love Tangled. Maximus is also way up there on my personal top list. But yeah, Pascal is also one of the very few sidekicks to have killed a person (that we know of), and I think that's pretty neat, too. But yeah I'm super pleased with the list, so many surprises and hot takes and overall a very very fun video. For the record I'm totally onboard for both the quick D23 video and the splitting of Star Wars land into multiple videos. Also super-hyped for Halloween content.

Shaun Cheah

D23 👍✅👌🏿 Splitting up SWGE 👏✔️😊

Shred Cadmium

I assume it's a lighting/shirt/videoprocessing thing but damn your eyes are blue as hell in this one.
