Ramble: Favorite Youtubers

Thanks all for your patience re: this ramble! Youtube really did not want me to upload this. And then my own brain didn't want me to upload this when I wasted several hours exporting a new copy with the wrong audio track on.

As I mention partway in, if you want spoilers/links you can click through to the youtube page for this video to see links to all youtubers mentioned!

Also lol at the end I say something about "I didn't want to make a long video just dumping on something the whole time" and realized how funny that was when I do that regularly, and even have a video titled "dumping on 50 Shades Freed." BUT LET ME EXPLAIN: I meant that I didn't want to make that kind of video for a con because I know that being able to travel and attend fan conventions is something many people would like to and can't do, and a whole video complaining about a convention (organizationally or otherwise) would probably sound really ungrateful.

(PPS please bear with me as I figure out the lighting in my new space. In this case I definitely shouldn't have left the warm-light lamp on out of frame left which I think is a big contributor. I've also since ordered a ringlight since they're All The Rage but can't decide if I like it)

You mentioned you liked redlettermedia, not sure if you ever saw the stream with Rich and Jack where they talked about you. They said you were very talented, smart and funny and that you were too good to be on screen junkies haha ;)

davebot3000

Going through this backlog of videos. I got so excited when Jenny mentioned double toasted. I used to love listening to movie reviews on spill.com I always get kinda sad knowing that group partially broke up, i watch double toasted and allofus occasionally but the dynamic never feels the same to me

draav

I love how I’m not the only one who loves abandoned videos and videos about old theme park rides. I geek out so bad with defunctland, yesterworld and Dan Bell. There is something so nostalgic about the way he edits his videos and talking about animatronics being left behind. Ugh. Finally someone else who understands. Lol also Jenna Marbles will always be my favorite youtuber too but your content is slowly creeping up to that spot since she doesn’t post anymore.

Torie Gatti

I just watched the video but it did not have the names of the Youtubers in the description. It's quite hard as non native English speaker to pick up all the names, anyone has the list somewhere? Thank you!!

Anna Hisse

For new patrons going through the backlog like I am: I feel like Jenny subs would like BrutalMoose and JelloApocalypse. BrutalMoose makes a wide range of funny content from reviewing frozen dinners to looking at mystery VHS tapes he buys on ebay (which he shoots on VHS!), and Jello makes quick and funny "reviews" of video games and animated shows among other things.

Ghostfellow

do you know NegativeLegend? he explores a lot of "childhood cringe" like Winx Club, Monster High and stuff, and deep dives into their history and merch

Anna Glin

Buzzfeed unsolved is just Perfect for halloween they’re in that exact spooky not scary range that makes for good party viewing. Also I highly recommend super eyepatch wolf if you like nerdy/passionate people.

Magicalbunbun

Watching this after Jenna Marbles left youtube :'(

Laurga

"he looks at ship floor plans, who does that?" then some months latter jenny goes on a rant about efficient walkways

Raphael Caetano

I know I'm seven months late to this but I just wanna warn people from the future that Zelthane's takes here are bad, using they/them pronouns on a she/her trans woman is erasure and bad, saying transwomen instead of trans women is not cool, and, like, the backlash in general against ContraPoint is some cancel culture bullshit which contributed to Jenny's twitter going private for a few days, so, like, fuck that noise.

Shaun Cheah

Wall-E? Or perhaps he just likes that one specific roach.

Shaun Cheah

I'm so glad you mentioned Be Kind Rewind, she deserves to be huge!

LyingMuse

By "pretty good," do you mean "conventional mainstream critical theory"? Essentially, he has the viewpoint of the prosecutors on an episode of Law & Order. "Though this had been sold to Americans as a source of liberation and freedom, the ultimate effect was to secure the positions of entrenched interests and stifle upward mobility among different groups, as well as creative divisions within the classes...." He does a better-than-average job of citing authors and describing techniques, but his conclusions are The Usual Usual: "Everything Is A Lie, and Everything Is Unfair."

Steve Ray

idk if you've checked out nightmare masterclass but he's pretty good. he's very academic, and his politics are pretty good

Mallory Avery

:o fingers crossed for a Sonic Adventure 2 stream!!

pickleslikely

Joy Ross is such a cool channel thank you SO much for shouting it out!! as a fellow blind individual it means a lot to me❤️

Gillian Ward

I feel like you and MovieBitches would get along lol. They do movie reviews typically about about campy films. They’re a hoot!

Callie Koch

twitch? aww link?

VHS VCR

So excited to hear for your Twitch streaming! I can't wait to see what games you choose!

Zelthane

I loved a majority of her list but Contrapoints is basically just a 4ch troll in disguise. They stated they don't believe that sex is real and that it's just an utterly meaningless identity therefore we cannot criticize men or name differences between men and women because identity is all that matters.. It's an incredibly harmful type of view when it comes to physical and mental health. Not to mention they actually compared not calling transwomen by their preferred pronouns to not letting immigrants into the country.. I mean.. wild. Also that she think's worse of women who choose not to wear makeup and false nails and the such, saying that we are "flexing" on them lmao

Zelthane

she has a new set up yas

Benjamin Jones

Nick's also lived in DFW foRRRR the past decade oRRRR two, so he's acquiRRRRRRed moRRRRe of the rhotic "divine accent" (a/k/a, the NoRRRRRTh Texas Accent) than most BritisheRRRRRs.

Steve Ray

Contrapoints is a MIRACLE WORKER. She's transformed so many alt-right edgelords into empathetic human beings and the fact that that channel is blowing up right now is fantastic!! Even if you're not really into politics/political entertainment her channel is definitely worth it, the videos are so entertaining in a one-of-a-kind type of way and perfect for binging. I was so surprised to hear that channel referenced but tickled nonetheless!

Karla Blinoff

Hmmm, Nick sounds a little more like he's got some midlands influences in his accent, the words 'generic English accent' come to mind though nobody from England actually knows what that means hahaha

Mae Macabre

Does he sound like Nick Redfern? Nick is from Liverpool.

Steve Ray

Bit random but I was super impressed that you guessed CreepsMcPasta's accent as Liverpudlian, even as a Brit his voice/accent is really difficult to decipher but that would be my best guess too!

Mae Macabre

since you posted this i’ve gotten really into caitlin doughty’s videos and checked her book out from the library, thanks jenny!!

Taylor

If you’re ever trying to impress a trans person just casually drop that you know Natalie Wynn. She’s one of like 3 trans celebrities that trans people actually like

Leonard Pollard

Red Letter Media and this channel is what got me into regular YouTube viewing!

Darren Pierce

For good-natured background YouTubers, I love the Angelic Initiative https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSG-9zExvh4 , chock full of spiritual hot takes with real-time verification.

Steve Ray

I never realised Dan Bell was so popular, it is one of my favourite channels. RLM is one of the only other YouTubers I've supported on Patreon, with Captain D being another one I've supported. I like a truck driving channel called Indiana Jack, which I enjoy putting on in the background while I do something else.

Daniel Staniforth

Maybe down the road we could get a little Disney World B-Roll style video from the Star Wars Celebration footage.

Luis

Ive never liked watching those "famous" youtubers, the closest Ive got is The King of Random, so I was really happy that your list was in line with the stuff I already watch (you even had Snake Discovery! and Ask a Mortician!!) I love watching channels that are a little weird, or with topics that I myself arent passionate about but I love learning. Cant wait to check out some of the channels you listed!

Nadia Cox

It's killed before being frozen.

McKoo Staples

I think that would still be too sad, thinking of the poor mouse wondering why it's getting so cold all of a sudden.

Steve Ray

No, do the rest of 2019's releases in One GIANT Video... POWER MOVE!!!! "12/29/2019 - Jenny Nicholson just uploaded 'This Should Hold You For A While' 11:38:16"

Steve Ray

Honestly I was never big on youtube until recently when I got in to your channel, and then got in to a few others through the recs on your videos. So this was like the perfect video for me lol! Now I have some good channels to check out. sorry if this is too obvious but; Have you considered breaking the Star Wars video up in to two parts? One hour is plenty of content, and then you can release the second half without stressing about the gap between posts. whatever you decide to do im hype for some toy story 4 hot takes

Rice G.

I'm betting on one of the Freddi Fish point and clicks. Or that Goosebumps game she talked about a while back in a Halloween video.

superb lobster

Holy hell, watching the dead mall series, it's so good!

Booty McJohnson

Can't wait for your bingo video!!

Lucia Parks

Giant Porg is radiating 'waiting for mom to get off the phone' energy.

Neil Dutton

What got me was his flipper touching the bed like he's saying, "Jenny help me back up there!"

Luis

Not that this is going to make want to rush out and get a pet snake, but just fyi: for most pet snakes, you buy mice that are already dead to feed to them (you buy them frozen, then you thaw them). It's better for both the mouse (they're killed in a more humane way than being eaten alive) and the snake (less likely to get scratched/bitten if the mouse were to fight back). I have a pet snake, and she's a great low-maintenance pet!

McKoo Staples

I was thinking Big Porg is looking quite nonchalant there

Shred Cadmium

you ever watch the new jenny ramble video and then spend the next 10 hrs watching todd in the shadows? .. yep

Creamer

the audio is not very good i cant tell if it is just me or what im just letting you know in case it your new space though

Bradley D Williams

Jenny you should get a crested gecko! They're adorable and they eat a powdered diet so no bugs! I mean you CAN give them bugs but you don't have to. Um. Anyway this was a fun video

Didge Ridoo

Can I ask what your sister's Twitch stream is?

Richard Morrall

The Double Toasted guys definitely deserve to be way bigger than they currently are

KHL

You hate all crickets? Even Jiminy? And yes, RLM, I know what that is!

Bill Lehecka

A fellow deathling huh? You know you can never be normal again, right?

Abel Cassius

At this point you and Bailey are the only Youtubers I watch on the regular, so these were all new to me (even Jenna Marbles, so apparently I’m very out-of-touch/old). I spend most of my YT time watching music videos, "Honest Trailers", and comedy skits, but I agree that it's nice to have something mellower/more-talky on while eating, so I’ll definitely be checking out the links. And I pity the fool who isn’t hyped for your Star Wars Land video! :)

Dee Crosier

Thanks for the recs!

Booty McJohnson

Thank you Jenny this made my Saturday. Sorry YouTube is being annoying with the upload stuff.

Eric MacMillan

Growing up my older brother kept a pet lizard that ate crickets and one time they all escaped. We spent an entire summer trying to capture and return them to his room. The worst part was being woken up by one jumping on my face in the middle of the night!

Luis

I’m gonna go on a limb and say that liking Jenna marbles is a universal experience

Ren ☆

Do you listen to any Podcasts regularly? Podcasts are definitely my jam over Youtube because I feel like I need to watch Youtube, even if it's not interesting visually.

Kriston

Jenny: i don't like roaches. Me: who does!?!?!?!?!?

Blue Corn

I'm going to go ahead and make a prediction about the future beastly-esque movie and say that it's Fallen because I too did not know that even existed until recently and my immediate thought was "oh god i wish Jenny would do a video on this piece of solid gold."

Annabelle Greer

I'm calling it, right here, right now - she's gonna play Bubsy

Dillon Enarson

You don’t watch the Paul brothers??!! This is an outrage !!

Daniel Stephan

Thanks for the great recommendations Jenny! You mentioned old Hollywood history, I also wasn't that interested unless I listened to "You Must Remember This", a podcast by Karina Longworth. She does very well researched pieces on old stars, famous + forgotten films and cultural trends going on in the U.S. at the time. Well worth checking out. Also, if you like video essays, MrBTongue on youtube is very good - his piece on Game of Thrones and some of his video games ones (e.g. Fallout) are the best I've ever heard (and I've listened to a lot!).

Galewolf

Giga-Porg is not used to having open space on both sides of the bed. Just before filming they adjusted and fell off. Not wanting to interrupt Jenny’s “process” they just leaned awkwardly and waited.

T. Fazekas

Big fan of DoubleToasted. Every now and then Corey and Martin will reflect on their public access show. So their brand must date back pre internet. I’m certain that internet or not they would have found success somewhere, somehow but I think the internet and podcasting and YouTube and more recently twitch is great in giving people a platform they otherwise never would’ve had. Like people who were good at Dance Dance Revolution, like those exceptional few who mastered it and watching them made it seem like all the time they spent stomping on that dance pad was worth every quarter. yet if there was never a DDR, they may have gone their entire existence without finding that something that allowed them to shine for a second in a way nothing else ever had. Like Would Ninja be as famous a streamer without Fort Nite? And I know South Park explored the idea but there’s always that legitimate fear in the back of my head at the very likely possibility of the World Wide Web unraveling and the world having to adjust and revert back to the way it was. See, now I’m rambling. My bad. Thanx always Jenny

Alexander Young

Any chance of you doing a guest appearance on Bailey's workplace's twitch stream? If you're still trying to figure out the whole twitch thing it could be a good learning experience

Andrew Zimmer

Giant Porg looks so sad sitting on the floor :( Other than Jenny I don't really watch a lot of YouTube so I'm really grateful for this ramble and all the recommendations provided! I am so hype for the Star Wars Land video!!

Luis

Jenny styling with a shirt that looks like a rad bowling alley carpet

sarahserif

I hope Bailey isn’t a patron.

Greg McDaniel

I love RLM too! Your channel, Lindsay Ellis, and RLM are all in my top 5 YouTube channels for sure.

Josh Liam

Can't wait to watch this when I get home. Thanks Jenny!!!!

Frank and Beans

Grats on the new crib! Thanks for the video

FireBatV

I was planning on going to bed, but now I can’t! Looking forward to this.

Adam Clark

New place looks great! Thanks jenny!
