Next, the Apple Dumpling Gang...was there any father there at all? Bill Bixby was the star, but he's also stuck with the orphans with no escape but marriage. If "compliant protector" equals "helpless father," then another +1 for the Holt Theorem! Let's finish out Trial 1 with Escape to Witch Mountain, where Tony and Tia fend for themselves for what reads like two acts, but then link up with an "embittered widower" played by Eddie Albert, who believes in their powers and helps them escape to Galt's Gulch. Once again, a man without purpose falls right into a protective role... The Holt Theorem stands UN-defeated!

I was not the submitter, but unless someone was trying to expand the topic to include films like Herbie the Love Bug, The Shaggy D.A., Pete's Dragon, The Apple Dumpling Gang, and Escape to Witch Mountain, where the lines between protagonist, sidekick, and McGuffin become tangled and blurred, I presume they mean the same thing.

Halloween costumes nobody wanted was the first video I watched so it just feels right to see Jenny make a Halloween costume.
