Solo preview

A little 10 minute preview of what might end up being an almost hour-long video

Solo preview

It's a fun movie, dude, it's just also quite (very) dumb. I enjoyed the visuals, I enjoyed the music at points (some might think it used certain scores in a very cheap or gimmicky or unearned way and I wouldn't disagree with them but I also can't argue that it didn't work, 'cause it did. I smiled when the music swelled, so along with whatever else it was, it was effective), but mostly I enjoyed how much fodder it would provide for an apparently almost hour-long review of all its flaws and problems. I've settled into enjoying it as a very 6.5/10 movie about a man in Star Wars and Lando and Chewbacca are there, but this is not my Han Solo. I can ignore that they made Greedo shoot first, and I can ignore that this is the backstory that they've declared canon for my favourite Star Wars guy. He had some other backstory that happened over a much longer period of time and made him a lot more cynical and selfish, this was just a fun movie. That said, playing with Legos is very fun and this movie was quite (very) mediocre so perhaps your point stands.

I've been on the fence about going to see it, pondering the use of my MoviePass as an excuse to go see what would surely be a mediocre yet fun movie. Jenny, you've helped me understand that in my 2 hours and 23 minutes of life, I might have more fun disassembling then reassembling my early series Millennium Falcon microfighter Lego 17 times.

Jon David Nystrom

I have been debating this point. Is it better to have see the movie to enjoy the review even more or first the review and then see the movie, making the problems even funnier.

IM SO EXCITED FOR THIS VIDEO πŸ™Œ I saw Solo opening weekend literally just to prepare for this exact thing,

Montana

I saw that Quinton Reviews had already done a video on it before I went to bed on Monday, which led to me I waking up in a panic on Tuesday to book the earliest showing that day so I wouldn't miss out on the takes if Jenny's video was released soon. There's usually a gap of a day or three between the preview and the actual video, so if you're sensitive about spoilers then you've still got a chance to catch the movie before the full video is ready. On spoilers, though, there've been studies done that've shown that spoilers sometimes increase enjoyment of stories ( https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/spoiler-alert-spoilers-make-you-enjoy-stories-more ). And it'd give you a solid reason to watch the video at least twice, once pre-movie and then more times after-movie, where a lot more stuff will make sense.

Ugh! I haven’t seen the movie yet but I really want to watch this video!

Have you noticed that every single female character in it was English? Probably unintentional but it was fun to spot!

Liz

I suspect Porgy the Hutt done it to him.

but ur donald duck carbonite pillow!!!

One thing that modern successful space westerns use is actual music to set the tone and mood to connect with the audience. Soul/rock for the Guardians of the Galaxy. Jazz for Cowboy Bebop. Not sure you could do that with Star Wars

Blue Corn

So excited to watch this video!

The end of the movie had me thinking about that 'what a twist!' Robot Chicken skit. It was pretty zany.

It's too bad they killed off Beckett's crew so early. They could have had a good presence as a Guardians of the Galaxy type team in the Star Wars universe. Beckett = Star Lord. Val = Gamora. Rio = Rocket. Chewbacca = Drax. Han = baby Groot.

Blue Corn

My plan is to watch your full review and then watch the movie. In my estimation it will transform the movie into a slap-stick comedy. Also, "How is the car alarm getting closer? Like, are they actively stealing it right now?" lol

Sean Kelly

It's top 2 now because they're closing Jurassic Park

Jenny Nicholson

I'm starting to think that Top 3 Rides at Universal That Are Actual Rides video isn't going to happen.

James Gregory

One of my points in this video (there are 12 points, it's a lot of points) is speculating about jokes I think were set up and were probably in the Lord and Miller version which were then cut

Jenny Nicholson

This is great. I hope there’s a 10 minute discussion on Vacation Lando Calrissian at the end. I’ve spent the last week thinking about that hokey yellow Hawaiian shirt he was wearing.

Tyler Monson

I wonder what Miller and Lord's take would have been?

Blue Corn

You seem almost frighteningly enthusiastic – and optimistic – about the permanent maintenance of the status quo. But then again given both the brilliance of Jenny Nicholson and the increasing badness of 21st century film making, this enthusiasm of yours makes total sense to me.

David Wilhelm Beckmann

I saw the words "almost hour-long" and my first thought was that there does not exist a universe where this ends in disappointment. I look forward to culmination of this gradual lengthening of videos when our 2020 hot takes will need intermissions and meal breaks. I'm picturing waiting a week in the 2030s for a new video that is somehow inexplicably over a week in length. More content is better content, Insanity: A Jeff The Killer Fanfiction is probably my favourite video so far, super excited for Solo to take the top spot.
