Do you like long videos?
Added 2018-02-17 06:36:45 +0000 UTCI'm just curious on this point. My recent videos have been 20, 30 minutes long. When I think of a lot of stuff to say, I just kind of leave it all in and don't bother to be concise because personally I like to watch long youtube videos, so I kind of figure the more the merrier. But I could probably make them shorter.
What about you guys? Do you like long videos? Do you see a 20+ minute timestamp and find it daunting?
Comments
Hilarious to see this question about >10 minute videos back in 2018 when the only things Jenny posts to youtube for years now are at LEAST 80 minutes long

2025-03-15 17:44:06 +0000 UTCYou should make videos that are longer than 10 min imo

2023-09-08 01:58:32 +0000 UTCYour best video Evermore is almost 4 hours long, and I wanted more content.

2022-11-08 07:03:49 +0000 UTCContent is the key. I like long videos, if they’re not boring. Keep it interesting!
Kris Webb
2018-02-26 11:59:41 +0000 UTCDo you like websites?
Bill Holt
2018-02-23 04:19:36 +0000 UTCOf the two options (<10 or longer), I chose longer, but I think the ideal might be 15-20 rather than 30 :)
Matt
2018-02-20 16:30:27 +0000 UTCFrom someone interesting and funny like you, it’s not at all daunting. I think most of us look forward to your videos and enjoy when they’re longer cus we get more of the awesomeness (and I mean they are rambles, they’re going to be long. why make you do more work? I know what a pain it can be to edit long videos)

2018-02-19 05:57:50 +0000 UTCI'm glad how clear cut the voice of the people is on this one. Longer video's. I think 18 minutes is the sweet spot.
James O'Toole
2018-02-19 04:09:46 +0000 UTCI do not have an explicit preference. I think you should adjust the length to suit the content. I think you're doing a good job of that.
Brandon Blackmoor
2018-02-19 00:52:02 +0000 UTCI like a mix of the two. The long videos are great but shorter ones are, too. I also kind of miss ones that are more general like "Snoke isn't Mace Windu" and I love skits like the Spider-Man one or Rey Isn't a Skywalker
John Conklin
2018-02-18 22:26:38 +0000 UTCI like longer ones so I can play it in the background I'm doing other things!

2018-02-18 20:03:58 +0000 UTCTo be honest, I think a lot of people are subbed to you because you do the in depth videos. At first it was a bit intimidating but you make such engaging content it was fine.
Lynda Bradley
2018-02-18 09:12:55 +0000 UTCI really enjoy your content, and would enjoy view more, so it goes without saying that long vids are fine. I even enjoy the ones which are not about things I normally would be interested in, like My Little Pony, etc.
Tim Ruckle
2018-02-18 07:19:21 +0000 UTCLiterally everything you say is hilarious I love a good long video especially when they’re done in a stream of consciousness style because it’s the explanations of your viewpoints that make even the simplest mistake seem like an absurdity
Jacob Carlin
2018-02-18 07:02:06 +0000 UTCI love your long videos!

2018-02-18 04:53:06 +0000 UTCThis is off topic but just on the subject of giving you feedback...I love when you post your videos on the weekend. Things can get kind of hectic on the weekdays sometimes and I have to put off watching your videos which is a bummer...plus its fun to stay up late when I know a video is coming so I can watch it right away! Just my 2 cents.

2018-02-17 23:43:13 +0000 UTCAnswer: yes
2018-02-17 23:19:55 +0000 UTCI really enjoy the longer vids but I would not want to discourage you from uploading shorter vids either - a quick take or comedy skit is just as welcome as a ramble or an in-depth takedown.
Paul Weir
2018-02-17 23:04:15 +0000 UTCI like the longer videos, but I can see how it might be daunting for a new person who just sees you pop up on the Recommended.
Sarah Walker
2018-02-17 22:26:02 +0000 UTCI like the longer videos. I tend to listen to the videos at work and right now you are a fantastic distraction from my recent life troubles.
Brianna Ogas
2018-02-17 18:51:58 +0000 UTCI don't have much spare time each day. If it's a short video I'll sit and watch it, otherwise I'll minimize it and listen to it while doing other things, which isn't as much fun.
John Friedrich
2018-02-17 18:47:12 +0000 UTCDepends on the type of content, but for your style I definitely prefer longer. I feel like it gives more time than just the humor. You're very informed about the topics and I feel like I'm learning along with laughing. I don't know if a shorter timeframe would allow for that duality.
Abbygale Mertes
2018-02-17 17:13:19 +0000 UTCI think you should just let the content and your own thoughts dictate the length. If you have 30 mins worth of the things to say then by-all-means don't edit yourself too much. I don't wanna miss out on funny or interesting stuff just to accommodate a smaller timestamp. If I don't have time to watch a whole video in one sitting, I can always do it in segments.
Shane
2018-02-17 16:47:10 +0000 UTCI don't like long videos for everything, but I do for your stuff. Since you're mostly just talking I usually treat it almost like a podcast, so something that lasts my whole commute is fine.
Robert C
2018-02-17 16:42:10 +0000 UTCAgreed on 15 minutes being the sweet spot.
Jason
2018-02-17 15:58:07 +0000 UTCYour Fifty Shades Video was perfect for listening in the car while heading to my dealership for service. I couldn’t watch, but I listened. A video like the Opposite Worlds Video needs to be watched because you included clips, so maybe those types of videos should be 10-15 minutes and mainly talking vids like the one posted today can be longer.
Bill Lehecka
2018-02-17 15:20:01 +0000 UTCYou have no option for me. I think 15 min is the sweet spot.
Tanton Gibbs
2018-02-17 15:14:17 +0000 UTCI don’t mind your videos being 20-30ish. Much longer and I do find it daunting, it’s why even though I enjoy it the few times I have watched (including yours) I don’t regularly watch Movie Fights, And I’ve missed a lot of Schmoedowns now. Ain’t nobody got time for that. But yeah your stuff isn’t too long so far.
Scott Edmondson
2018-02-17 14:52:05 +0000 UTCIf you're asking what I prefer, I don't have a preference. But I think people are more likely to post a short video to their Facebook or Reddit or forum. If you're looking to attract more subscribers, I think you still want a steady stream of videos like your script doctor videos to bring in more people. The longer videos are great, but they're more for subscribers/fans that trust your 30 minute video will be worth their time.
Phillip Stromberg
2018-02-17 14:08:35 +0000 UTCI like YOUR long videos because they are funny and insightful and worth watching.
Rob Trimarco
2018-02-17 13:50:34 +0000 UTCI definitely prefer longer videos. That being said, if you instead did shorter videos and just did more of them, I wouldn't complain. As long as you're talking and making me laugh, I'll keep watching and listening!
Andrea Federica
2018-02-17 13:37:35 +0000 UTCThe under 20 minute thing is for the demographic who watch unboxings and vlogs. Your content is rants and social, specifically, your content will always do well, fairly long. :)
Freya Northman
2018-02-17 13:34:25 +0000 UTCWhenever I watch an informative type of video, I like them short and to the point. When the umm... informating person?... goes into a long introduction, I find myself saying after 10 seconds "Answer the question in the title! I got other things to do. (that I usually won't do). Get to the point already!" Your videos, however, don't have a point, so I like them as long as possible.
Abel Cassius
2018-02-17 13:13:01 +0000 UTCI prefer longer youtube videos in general, since I find that videos under 10 minutes don't have time to really get their point across. Sketch comedy type videos are the exception.
Didge Ridoo
2018-02-17 12:58:45 +0000 UTCDepends on the channel type. I never prefer ~10 minute videos, but for certain channels I like videos that are 3-5 minutes long and then for others 20+ minutes works. Your content works better in the longer format IMHO.
Michael Gaskins
2018-02-17 12:36:05 +0000 UTCI can only see a long video being detrimental to your sketch style ones. Everything else, I prefer long.
Blue Corn
2018-02-17 12:36:02 +0000 UTCI almost think of them as podcasts. I go back and listen to your old videos in the background all the time. "I found the worst book" is one of my favorites.
Austin Baker
2018-02-17 12:11:56 +0000 UTCI don’t know if “prefer” is the right word, but if the content is good a long video certainly isn’t a deterrent lol
Phillip Travis
2018-02-17 11:51:59 +0000 UTCI prefer the long videos. Like the guy above said I like stuff like RLM. Sometimes I'm like: Dang, their new video is only an hour :(
Daniel Staniforth
2018-02-17 11:46:24 +0000 UTCI think it's worth noting that the amount I want to listen to someone scales off of how much I know I will enjoy them. When I started watching RLM for example I found most of their videos far too long, but once I got familiar with the hosts I was able to endure (and enjoy) a best of the worst. So as others have noted, even though I'm voting long I think short videos are still a good idea as entry points.
Jeffrey Lyons
2018-02-17 11:41:52 +0000 UTCLove your long videos, I always have them on in the background so it’s perfect. It would be amazing if you and some friends did a podcast!
Madi
2018-02-17 11:33:07 +0000 UTCI don't really have a preference per se, but i'm fine with longer videos
TalysAlankil
2018-02-17 11:10:03 +0000 UTCI'm really glad that the results are a resounding "keep them long pls!"
Callum Knight
2018-02-17 09:47:14 +0000 UTCI voted 'I prefer long videos' because you have enough content to make them long and interesting. But I also love your short videos, like the Jyn Erso audition. It also depends on what you can see helps the channel with viewer retention, searches, number of views and so on. I'd imagine longer videos would tend to have better engagement but sometimes fewer views? (Since people won't rewatch them several times in half an hour.) So either way, really. Whatever suits the topic.
Stuart Payne
2018-02-17 09:40:42 +0000 UTCMake 3 hour long videos. 20-30 minutes are just the video you would normally upload, the rest just a black screen!!
Daniel Stephan
2018-02-17 09:07:48 +0000 UTCFor me it depends on what the channel usually produces, my max tolerance is at about double whatever the usual video length is.
Boartails
2018-02-17 09:02:28 +0000 UTC10-15 is my sweet spot, I munch through lunch pretty quickly.
Raptor
2018-02-17 08:56:58 +0000 UTCIf I ever don't have enough time to finish a video, my computer includes this add-on called the Pause button. It's kind of amazing.
Rish Outfield
2018-02-17 08:47:42 +0000 UTCAround 25 minutes is perfect because it seems to suit you as a creator and it gives you enough time to go into detail but not so long that as a viewer you have to plan it into your day. Other creators I watch will do an hour and I feel like I should be doing something else as well during that time. That said, I think a one-off video of 60-75 minutes would be really interesting
Joe Robinson
2018-02-17 08:26:09 +0000 UTCI load up a lot of Lindybeige and Lawsplaining the Interwebs whenever I'm leaving my house because they have longer videos and aren't very reliant on the visuals.
Monstah Slayah
2018-02-17 08:13:59 +0000 UTCAs a general rule I prefer shorter videos, but I consider you an exception to that rule. Watching somebody ramble in real time for that long could potentially be excruciating, but you edit with a great sense of comedic timing, so the minutes just zoom by.
Daniel Russo
2018-02-17 08:06:06 +0000 UTCI find you have a pretty good sense of editing and seem to know what the suitable length should be in relation to the subject.
Ellery VanDooyeweert
2018-02-17 07:56:51 +0000 UTCI click on all of your videos and sometimes it's a subject that I have no clue about so I'll get distracted by a related video about porgs, but when it's a subject I'm interested in I'll stay for a few hours if you were to last that long. Please do hour long videos.
Monstah Slayah
2018-02-17 07:42:26 +0000 UTCWhen I see that a new video from someone I like is more than 20 minutes long I get immediately excited
HeroOfTheModernAge
2018-02-17 07:40:33 +0000 UTCI always get excited for your videos because I tend to listen to them in the car during my commute. Your current video format as it stands now is ideal for me. What you're doing is perfect! Please keep it up! :3
Leesah
2018-02-17 07:36:36 +0000 UTCThat's the same reason I like longer videos, I always put something on when I'm eating. Or driving
Jenny Nicholson
2018-02-17 07:16:19 +0000 UTCI’m usually eating while watching/listening to the type of videos you do so 20-30 minutes works for me so I don’t have to stop and find another video in the middle of my meal and accidentally get hot sauce all over my keyboard/controller.
Peter Marez
2018-02-17 07:04:10 +0000 UTCI regularly watch hour long videos. So 20-30 mins is still short to me. The longer the better.
2018-02-17 07:03:33 +0000 UTC20-35 minutes is a sweet spot for me. Anything longer and I'd rather have it in a podcast form so I can easily listen to it in more than one sitting (I would listen to your podcast if you did one). But I do really like your super concise, scripted and edited 10 minute videos though, so for me an ideal mix would be maybe 2/3rds long rambles and 1/3 heavily scripted.
Buddy Crotty
2018-02-17 06:57:10 +0000 UTCYour 20 minute videos don't feel long to me. :)

2018-02-17 06:56:51 +0000 UTCThere are some channels where I'm like "get to the point!" but your channel is not one of them.

2018-02-17 06:52:42 +0000 UTCYeah.
Jon David Nystrom
2018-02-17 06:46:25 +0000 UTCIt depends on the approach to the subject matter. If you're doing a fairly serious and/or satirical deep-dive on some topic, then really long videos are great. If you're doing something wackier, then perhaps 10 minutes is a good target.
Brad
2018-02-17 06:46:19 +0000 UTCBy long videos I thought you meant like over an hour. i don't consider 30 minutes or under very long.
Emma
2018-02-17 06:45:28 +0000 UTCI don't think I've ever thought any part of your vids should have been cut for time.
Joe Bloe
2018-02-17 06:41:21 +0000 UTCI like both, but 20-30 minutes is perfect for me!
