[Circus Movie] Video

Hey guys, new video is out! This video is demonetized and I just want to thank all my patrons again for allowing me to upload without worrying about that. If I didn't have a patreon I would keep back this video like a greedy old miser until I got the monetization issue sorted, but thanks to you guys I can just upload it anyway. (Seriously though see my twitter for The Greatest Showman conspiracy, it's insane)

Comments

agreed, she's always great on Movie Fights.

The last one was on January 1st, so I reckon the next one will be around February 1st.

Blue Corn

Is there no patron video this month?

Nolan Thompson

I hope so, for both her and our sakes. Her videos here are fantastic, but there are not enough of them, plus her ability to extemporize and witty repartee aren't showcased in these solo vids, as good as they are.

Tim Ruckle

What was the answer? I don't want to watch it because I, to my shame, haven't seen Last Jedi yet. I know, I know. But I'm writing a dissertation, okay?!

Brandon Beasley

Fingers crossed they have her back soon. Considering the positive response in the comments they should do.

Stuart Payne

Ironically, I got an ad for The Greatest Showman when I first watched your review.

R2

Don't get me wrong i'm a fan myself, it was a joke about stereotypes. Actually really enjoying Discovery. Mantz was just playing the game, if he wasn't that way it'd be pretty boring.

I don't have any problem with trekkies (and am sort of one myself) I just thought Mantz was being a dick.

Tim Ruckle

I kid Mantz is always great in Movie fights especially against Rocha.

What does being a Trekkie have anything to do with it?

Blue Corn

Of course she did and he's a trekkie, i expect nothing less.

Thanks Simon. I'm glad they had her on! And glad she cleaned his clock; I really could not stand Scott Mantz.

Tim Ruckle

She was on Movie fights earlier today to answer that question.

Wait wut, is this the thing about youtube demonetizing "small channels". BTW, I would very much enjoy seeing much more content from you (aside: will you be rejoining Screen Junkies, with another season of MF or in whatever context? I enjoyed the show and also thought it showed off some of your talents that are less obvious from your solo vids) but it seems misguided to penalize such channels.

Tim Ruckle

I watch all the singing Jackmans but I can't fuck with a movie that seeks to portray Jenny Lind as some kind of desperate homewrecker and P. T. Barnum as, well, a Hugh Jackman. I have a lot of love for the opening number, tho! It's a preacher in the pulpit and you'll find devotion.

R2

In theory I should like this movie. An original musical about this subject matter should have been good. Great video, funny review :)

Jostein Hakestad

The only explanation I can think of for this movie and the marketing around it is that the ghost of P.T. Barnum is overseeing everything and won't let anyone say a bad word about him.

The BabaDuck

Ugh, I'm getting so sick of this "Not suitable for most advertisers" crap on YouTube. I am fighting with them over videos as well so you are most certainly not alone. As for this video, it's a shame to hear. I'm a huge Broadway musicals fan, however I have yet to see this film and I'm not sure why, but I've had a strange gut feeling about it and this confirms a few of my suspicions. I will end up seeing it though, but I appreciate the "warning" so to speak! :)

Theme Park Review

Thank you for making this video. I felt like I was alone in being disappointed by this film, but you've hit so many of the reasons I walked out going 'uh, really?'

Alyc Helms

Hello. I am part of the IRL circus community. Thank you for making this video. You would not believe the stories I could tell you about my friends' interactions with the production company

Ken Poirier

I walked away from the greatest snowman not thinking it was that bad but mostly because I went into it expecting cool visuals and catchy songs and really not much else so since it did a decent job at both of those things I never attempted to analyze the movie in any way beyond that. With that said, everything you said about it is true and if you’re going to analyze the movie as a whole from a storytelling perspective (which is 100% fair to do because it’s, you know, a movie) then it really is objectively awful.

Peter Marez

YouTube has become such a shit show lately with why they are monetizing and demonetizing videos. Its alot harder to make money from it than it once was. Like that Logan Paul video of him filming a dead body some how made it through, yet you can't post a simple film review. Its bit of a joke. Thank god for places like Patreon otherwise creators would be screwed.

The Tom Thumb story sounds like it would be a pretty interesting movie.

Brandon Blackmoor

"The elephant in the room". <3

Brandon Blackmoor

And they're treating smaller channels very poorly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpM2XrEb2A4 Not nice. Not nice at all.

Stuart Payne

I was the only one out of my group of friends who didn't like this movie, and now I don't feel so alone anymore lol

sushigirlali

I truly appreciated your Camp Rock reference

QuailMan420

Watching this now, and just wanted to give a minor correction: when Barnum is trying to sell the idea of a freak show to Tom Thumb, he wasn’t selling glory or acclaim... he said “They’ll still point and laugh, but at least you’ll get paid for it.” Just a minor characterization moment there.

Bill Lehecka

This demonitisation bullshit made me finally join your Patreon. I don't think I truly appreciated how unfair the algorithm can be until this "The Greatest Showman" thing.

Andrea Federica

Have you seen Jerry Springer: The Opera? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwNZ0PR_pMw not sure if you'll enjoy it, it might be a bit dated now. The theme of a showman exploiting 'freaks' seems to be shared by them both, although I'm guessing there is a bit less swearing in The Greatest Showman :)

JK

This video was great! Sorry about the youtube bullshit.

ruby jewelry on me

Right, skipping the ads for today. Justice 4 Jenny Nicholson.

Stuart Payne

No, it's running ads but I'm not earning anything from it. I did apply for a manual review so I'll likely begin earning on it starting tomorrow. I do find it super shady that it's still running ads

Jenny Nicholson

I got adverts on it, did you manage to get the monetization sorted? I didn't even skip the ads!

Daniel Staniforth

This movie sounds absolutely bananas! I love musicals but had no desire to see this one at all. However, I think you've managed to change that as I love ridiculously bad movies even more. I'm fairly certain that wasn't the point of this video but...well, here we are. Nice job, as always!

Sam Cohn

"I didn't come here to see an albino break dance, I came to see a man hit a lion with a chair!" Literally choked on my coffee.

Maybe that is why I could not get into it. I was never in the Glee demographic. I only ever watched one episode because they were covering the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and they completely butchered it. So I never watched again. I agree that Tightrope was a good song, but not good enough to make this movie good.

Richard P Sheldon

I think it's pulling in a lot of money from the Glee demographic, and the same young theater kids who liked dumb musicals like Spring Awakening. I also think a lot of the songs are solid and easy to attach your own feelings to, the movie just failed to back it up. For example I think Tightrope is a good song and very well performed by Michelle Williams but when watching the movie you don't feel anything about it because the visuals are bland (imagine if it had been staged as some kind of tightrope-walking dream sequence cutaway instead of a montage of Michelle Williams like... sitting in chairs. Eating dinner, watching ballet recitals) and the character isn't developed at all. Rewrite the Stars is also a great song and the choreography is exhilarating to watch, but two non-characters are singing it.

Jenny Nicholson

I really hoped this would be a good film, but I agree that it is a mess. One thing I can say is that I could tell that Hugh Jackman had poured his heart and soul into making the film. The passion for making this piece of art is there, but unfortunately it really missed its mark. I do not understand why people are gaga over this film.

Richard P Sheldon

We got your back!

Daniel Stephan
