PREVIEW: Top 10 Worst Reasons You Hated The Last Jedi

Hey guys, usually I post videos as soon as they're done, but I finished this video really quickly after posting the preview (I was on a MISSION and sort of stayed up all night). So, I thought I'd post the whole thing up here and give you guys a chance to watch it first.

In 12 hours or so I'll post it publicly!

I like comments here but don't bother commenting over on the video itself, or share obviously, because this particular upload is going to get deleted when the video goes public. (It's an algorithm thing. First 24 hours you want as many views on an upload as possible. Youtube is tricky.)

PREVIEW: Top 10 Worst Reasons You Hated The Last Jedi

Totally. And given the Jedi are a 'hokey religion' I'm curious how a less structured Force Sensitive underground--if you will--is gonna develop. Street Punk Force Users, etc...

Also, while I personally like them breaking the trope pattern and killing Snoke, just like you say, for all those people who like the Plagueis theory, isn't the entire point of Plagueis that he had power over life and death? And doesn't his face already look like it was cut in half and put back together? I hope they ARE done with Snoke, but it seems like they have lots of room for him to come back - either putting himself back together physically, or trying to take over Kylo's body - if they wanted to.

Thanks for another great video. My pet peeve is viewers who feel that if something isn't explained instantly, it's bad storytelling. "Rey's too good with the Force too soon!" ... and what makes you think there isn't a REASON for that we just don't know yet? "Snoke has no story!" ... when it could still be revealed, just as Palpatine's story wasn't revealed until Ep I-III. "If Rey's parents were drunk junkers (drunkers?), why did they fly off in a spaceship when they abandoned her?" ... what makes you think that was her parents? It could be a mistake, it could be Kylo was lying, or it could be that AFTER she was sold, something else happened to her. We're in the middle of a story and we SHOULDN'T expect to have all the answers, because the story's not over. It's totally Poe: because I don't know every detail RIGHT NOW, I want to burn the whole thing down.

Yeah, a lot of people were absurd enough to complain that Holdo "came out of nowhere" like it's unreasonable to assume that in a military operation that's existed for over 3 decades we ought to have heard of every high-ranking veteran by now (even though it's implied by Poe's "THAT's Holdo?" that she was perhaps not an admiral, but a pilot of legend during the last war - and has been promoted to a leadership position later in life). Also, it was NECESSARY to have the Admiral be an unfamiliar character to the audience, because the audience was SUPPOSED to be fooled into being on Poe's side in the first act. I saw a lot of people cry sexism that "male leaders like admiral ackbar were killed off" even though killing Ackbar seemed a deliberate nod of respect to the fact that his voice actor has passed away - rather than just having someone else do an impression of the character's voice and kept him around, which they could have easily done.

Anyone can be a jedi, you don't need your dad to be a jedi. It's better that way.

I liked The Force Awakens because it wasn't a *bad* movie and I was really overjoyed to just be in a theater seeing a good Star Wars film for the first time on the big screen. I loved Star Wars obsessively as a kid but that was on VHS tapes. It was a big deal for me to get past the prequels. But, yeah, The Last Jedi was so much better as both a film and a Star Wars film. TLJ makes me just wish Rian Johnson had been in charge of TFA.

The more I think about Vice Admiral Holdo the more I think of it as a litmus test for how ingrained the patriarchy is in someone's mind. I get siding with Poe in the first act - he's someone we're familiar with, he is our protagonist for this arc of the movie, we're limited to the same information he is so we're seeing things through his eyes - but that changes after the reveal. We learn that Holdo had a better plan than Poe and Finn, that she was right not to tell anyone the plan because more people finding out directly led to a huge number of deaths, Leia was on her side, and eventually Poe realized he was wrong and it was a huge character growth for him. If after all that and after time to think about it logically - the stuff Jenny mentioned in the video about Poe being the untrustworthy guy well below Holdo's rank who doesn't deserve to be informed of the plan through chain of command - if after that you *still* are desperately searching for reasons to think Holdo was wrong then the only real explanation is misogyny. I saw someone say that they would have been okay with it had it been Admiral Ackbar instead of Admiral Holdo. Seriously? You're so resistant to a woman firmly in command that you find a giant space fishman to be more palatable?

I didnt like tlj. But...ok...you got me. I loved rogue one.

It would be impossible for me to put into words just how much I love this video! Thank you, Jenny! :)

And I rather love that Rey is sort of a nobody. Works great for the story, and as a motivating figure for our own proletariat. ;) The kid at the end with the broom..? I bet my 10 yr old nephews will love that part! And then try to move stuff with the Force the same way I did in the mid 80s. ;)

I think what initially bothered some people, and i initially me, was exposure to stuff like the Darth Plagueis book...I so wanted this movie to tie into that, but of course it didn't have to. So many of us had it built up in our heads a bit, hence the tinge of disappointment. I saw it that Thursday night it opened, and kept an open mind, watching it almost as though I were a 10 yr old seeing my first SW film, and left thinking Wow they disrupted a lot of expectations, made thematic choices relevant to the times, and cranked out a movie that leaves openings for future stories. So...well done. It was my pseudo-nerdy expectations that disrupted my initial take a bit, but I've been thinking about it a lot since and cannot wait to see it again. Point being, let's all set our expectations aside and just enjoy. Well stated as always, Jenny!

Well son of a SNAKE! Another great video! Curious if TLJ changed anyone’s views on TFA? I thought it was okay, not my favorite but not the worst either, but TLJ (which I liked) made me like TFA even less. It was because it proves that they really had zero answers to anything they setup. It was just. Whole bunch of stuff that they had no overall plan for. I should have figured since it’s JJ Abrams and it’s Lost all over again, but I was hoping for more. I think Rian Johnson did a great job with what he was given.

Great Video Jenny! Thank you for responding to these terrible complaints about TLJ.

Matthew Morris

I've seen and heard a lot of complaints about stuff like "how do bombs drop in space?" and "why don't people always lightspeed an empty ship at their enemies?", as if the Star Wars movies have ever been about scientific accuracy and military acumen. Unfortunately, a segment of the fanbase has become more concerned with what the details are than with how those details affect the characters.

William O'Brien

The reaction to the Last Jedi made me realize that I hate fandom. They don't want new stories they just want to be comforted by seeing the same thing over and over and inside jokes that make them feel smart. They should let the past die.

Abbygale Mertes

I still think Snoke is likely Plagueis; not dead. I mean he's got a huge cleft in his head and half a cheek! He's not just a literal butthead ;)

Sky Norman

You're probably right. I assumed she would breakout in this movie. Instead she does the sensible and and expected and thankless things while all the men she's around do the selfish attention getting things. And then that is exactly how it plays out in the reviews of the movie!

Bill Holt

"Kylo Ren is emotional and unstable, which makes him unpredictable." It also makes him a Skywalker.

Richard P Sheldon

I assumed because her performance was about the same, they remarked on it after TFA because they'd never seen her act before and she was a new thing to weigh in on, and then didn't think to bring it up again

Jenny Nicholson

It is a thing people are NOT talking about. After heaping praise on her for TFA, why the silence regarding her performance in The Last Jedi?

Bill Holt

I love Daisy as Rey. I didn't even know it was a thing people were talking about

Jenny Nicholson

I wish I could say they were high

Jenny Nicholson

The general and pervasive silence on Daisy Ridley's performance in The Last Jedi is A) surprising B) telling C) evidence that Daisy didn't use enough Coriander when she cast her fame and talent spell.

Bill Holt

What do you think the odds are of Supreme Leader Kylo wearing Snoke's gold robe in episode 9
