Ramble: Rejected Video Ideas

Here is the newest ramble video! Please do comment if there are any ideas, from either of the documents I go over, that sound intriguing to you

Ramble: Rejected Video Ideas

Comments

so did Ragnarok kill the idea for the Thor video?

Wes

I’m a new patron going through the backlog, but I would still very much enjoy your Ewok movie video and also “Star Wars Merch They Should Make”.

Emily Lewis

More Disney World and theme park videos would be awesome!

Robbie Agnew

Lots of people are doing multiple channels now and getting good views! So a horror review channel and a bad fanfic channel would both be a good idea.

Thread Bomb

Also, would stan a horror review series

Chelsea Counsell

I feel like you could totally get away with posting covers of MLP songs to your main channel. Maybe it would hurt your algorithm though. You seem to know the algorithm well

Chelsea Counsell

A dedicated horror channel would be so cool!

I would kill to see your video on the circle! I always recommend it as a bad movie that people should watch with friends.

I would also like to hear Jenny's take on Book of Henry. I was going to see it, I really like Naomi Watts and Sarah Silverman but I saw an overview of the plot and just thought "yuck" and no way. It sounds both incredibly depressing and manipulative at the same time in the way it deals with issues like child molestation.

Michael DeBellis

I agree that a Mary Sue does not make something bad, but I disagree that Mary Sue is inherently sexist. I consider Superman to be a SUPER Mary Sue. What powers does he have? all the powers. Jesus has more weakness'es than Superman.

christopher wilco

this is a very old video but i am a very new patron, and on the topic of the book of henry: i never saw it and completely forgot it existed until folding ideas' video popped up in my recommended and i watched it (their video, not the movie, but i do that -and i feel like a lot of people do that- with movies i never end up seeing). it's sounds like such a bizarre and terrible film. i know it would be even less topical now to talk about it on your channel, but i would definitely love to hear your take on it!

omg dedicated horror channel i want please

diego kontarovsky

If the pertinency pendulum ever happened to swing back around to either Book of Henry or The Circle, I think those’d be great. I reckon there’s enough going on in both that folks wouldn’t necessarily need to have seen the relevant film? Anyway, just a thumbs-up for those ideas if either’s time does happen to come again. (I haven’t actually seen Book of Henry but could probably jot down most of the main points of the story just from internet osmosis! 😆 Did see The Circle just last week, though. Oof. Dear me.)

Shred Cadmium

I am so here tbh for more Disney parks and park attraction videos!

Nico Boggs

Funny you should say.........

Jenny Nicholson

I would love more Disney Park videos.

Also late to the party haha but I love your theme park and script doctor videos! Even if you decide not to do the ones you have written already, I’d love to see more of them!

Late to the party but I'd be super interested in a Star Wars fashion video. I enjoyed the Millenial Falcon one but would love seeing a different approach as well.

I would definitely watch an all Disney/theme park channel. I love theme parks and I've been visiting all over the US. I'd love a horror movie channel too

Jane McIntyre

+1 for a horror movie channel!

Tyler Samson

I would -totally- watch horror movie critiques. You'd tear them apart I'm sure. To be honest I like your OC so much more then the millennial falcon stuff.

Tyler Tuthill

All of the Disney World ideas sound very interesting!

moviehag

have you written any of your own creepypasta? it might be cool to do a creepypasta pitch video similarish to your star wars pitch videos

Summer Eldridge

Whoa. I missed the Marvel villains and love interests the first time I watched this. This is something that needs your funny analysis on. Especially with Thor, Black Panther and Infinity war within the next 7 months.

Blue Corn

I would watch the hell out of your "The problem with Jyn Erso" video. And out of your "Why I liked The Force Awakens". Also Thor and the public domain story movies that are done to death. And the "Movies that I like but no one else does" sounds great.

Marion Goller

Sad to hear about Screen Junkies. Are you still employed with them at least?

Trevor Lalish-Menagh

I’d love to see your thoughts on Cars 3! I actually liked it and feel pretty alone in that department

Brian Koch

This is late but please, PLEASE do another Creepypasta video, I'm constantly baffled by that community. A bunch of friends and I read that Jeff the Killer Vanity book you tweeted about a while ago and it was incredible.

Chris D.

If you created a separate horror channel, I would watch every video. Also, I'm curious to know if the recent Screen Junkies controversy is affecting you in any way. Has your relationship with them been soured?

Patrick Zartman

Cars 3 and The Circle are both films I've watched this year and have no one to talk about them because no-one else saw them lol. It would be cool to hear your thoughts on them but I totally get why you've chosen to leave them. I started to write a blog post about all the issues I had with The Circle, but there were so many that it was taking for ever and I can't bring myself to finish writing it!!

Bucklebob

I'm not on Reddit much but I just looked at the RLM page and someone's talking about that other Ewok video, wanting more Ewok discussion. It's getting voted up, too: https://www.reddit.com/r/RedLetterMedia/comments/74d6yl/who_wants_lucasfilms_the_ewok_adventure_movies_on/

Stuart Payne

Mary Sues, please

Lachlan Good

This is really great. I have to admit I was a little worried you didn't have a lot of ideas and might just sort of peter out because your content ended up becoming repetitive. Just a little worried, not properly worried, but you know, you only do videos occasionally and usually on a fairly Disney-centric topic. But as it turns out you're not just talented but you're hard working too. You've got a bunch of ideas. And on top of that you've worked on what you need to do to be successful on youtube. You've researched it (see the Addendum to this). You're talent, hard working, full of ideas and practical. You're basically the person I think I am but I'm not really.

Joe Bloe

YES, yes gimme that good Thor video. I had such high hopes and they reached such low lows.

Samual Holman

Having suffered through reading The Circle for a book club, I'd have been into someone poking at the movie even though I didn't watch it.

Scott Hall

Indefinite!?? :-(

Samuel Roberts

If you have an idea you're definitely not using, you could do a less-polished version of it here as a ramble or in place of a ramble

matt

I had a reoccurring dream when I was 5 about the bad guy from the Ewok movie. In the first dream he was stalking this creepy little town we were in and it was really scary (for a 5 year old). In the second dream I was hiding under a table and he chained sawed through the wall to try and grab me. Then, in a weird dream twist, my dad tells me to come out from under the table and the bad guy is sitting in a chair all cool like. My dad is standing there with his arms crossed keeping a close eye on the bad guy acting like a security guard. Five year old me tries to play it cool and I act like I know him and jump up into his lap. His name was Danny. I never forgot what that bad guy looked like but I had no idea it was the guy from that movie until I saw a screen cap on a random wiki page.

Sarah Matthews

Big Porg travels the rooms of my apartment with me, so when I recorded this he was still in the daytime position in my living room.

Jenny Nicholson

Definitely make a horror channel, there’s a renaissance of horror movies these days. If ones not in theaters you can do introspective videos about the individual franchises from the last 10-20 years a la Saw, Paranormal Activity, Purge, Insidious and the classics of Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Chucky and Halloween. You’ll always have content to pull from. Cars 3 & The Book of Henry: You mention a lot how you didn’t make certain videos because you didn’t think people would watch them but your TROLL book summary/review has almost 250k views so you never know what will be a big hit and while 100% of us haven’t read that book we all enjoyed your analysis of it. I’d say make the videos, worst case you have a greater variety of content. Your ideas sound like a lot of fun and if the MF hiatus gives you more time and creative breathing room, I’d really like to see the Star Wars and the Walking Dead videos along with the horror movie channel. Please do release the MLP cover, I’m sure it’s awesome but if you’re up to it, I challenge you to do a cover of Open Up Your Eyes by Tempest Shadow. P.S. Where’s big PORG?

Maybe make a spoiler review of movies where you explain what the movie was about, similar to the Troll review. Sort of see movies so that we don't have to. Pirates 5 review I thought was hilarious. It got me as a Patreon of yours, and it's sort of in line with this idea. Watched _______ so that you don't have to. Other movies worth watching you make more snarky/sarcastic videos about. This way you aren't so self-conscious about doing a review on movies not seen by most, and this would allow more content to be more expected. You could really have fun making fun of movies. Maybe have an RL friend who sees it with you take part in the conversation, similar to Millennial Falcon.

Wake90

What's the deal with the MF hiatus? I missed having a new episode this past week! Time off is one thing, but it would be nice to know it'll return.

Bryan R

OMG please post the MLP cover...

Dan Cole

Really, anything Star Wars would be awesome. Rebels. Predictions. Alternative Star Wars Stories.

Dan Cole

I saw The Circle and would watch you talk about it

Jason Wynn

First, I think you should just do what you think is interesting and worry less about viewers. viewers complain about everything and make up stuff like "he used to be funnier" and "he used to post more (which was then proven wrong)". If you personally like the topic and video, then it will be good. I also get not wanting to flood your channel with horror movies, but having more of those and disney would not be bad things. As for embarrassing things in original star wars, a storm trooper says please when obi wan is hiding behind the big blue glowy thing to shut it off

Domenic

Reading some of the other comments here, I thought I'd add in a few of my own thoughts. It seems obvious to me that content creation, and much of art in general, is a balance of what you want to do and weighing what will be popular as well as how people might react. I do think you should lean more towards what you want to do, but taking those things into consideration is more then sensible. As far as the topics go, I'd be interested in hearing the Book of Henry deep dive, despite having not seen the movie myself. I really enjoy hearing detailed analysis of that sort of thing even if I haven't seen the movie, but that could just be me. Also, I would definitely be interested in hearing more Disney stuff. Perhaps a subseries that is clearly labeled rather then an alternate channel? It's definitely a topic I enjoy hearing you talk about though, as you're clearly passionate on the subject.

Quakerin

I know a lot of people are saying "do whatever you want', but I think it's great that you think about it professionally. I think that is part of what keeps me clicking on the videos.

I'm find both theme park history and Jenny's deep knowledge of theme parks really fascinating. I hope she does just go all out and give us a big download of her theme park expertise.

John Orquiola

I'd really love to hear your impression of Thor speaking

Daniel Staniforth

I think I'm the only person who would still like to hear your thoughts on Cars 3. haha

PogieJoe

The Book of Henry just came out on blu-ray so talking about it now wouldn’t be too irrelevant but at any rate I think the movie is bonkers enough that you can talk about it whenever you want. As far as the ideas you have that you dropped because it might invoke hate, I say don’t worry about it. Granted, we’re not the ones who have to deal with the hate-messages you’ll receive so it’s easy for us to just say “go for it” but I feel like as long as you’re honest and not just throwing stuff out there to incite controversy then your fans will appreciate it even if they don’t agree. Basically, if you’re just trying to avoid vile DMs or whatever then I think we’ll understand if you want to skip those topics but if you’re just afraid that people won’t like your opinions on the matter or that you’ll lose fans because of it then I think you’re worrying about it too much. Also, a horror movie review channel would be dope. There’s a guy called Horrible Reviews on YouTube who has A TON of videos listing all kinds of horror movies and his reviews of them. His most popular series, “The Most Disturbing Movies Ever”, has 20 parts to it alone so you could sift through that channel to find movies you probably haven’t heard of. I think he lists all of the movies in his descriptions too so you can just go through it like that if you don’t want to watch several hours of reviews just to get some movie ideas. You have fun content and cool ideas. Keep up the good work.

Peter Marez

Jenny's unpopular movie opinions sounds like a really good ramble topic.

The BabaDuck

I would watch your horror movie reviews.

Yes cover horror movies! Theme park reviews would also be interesting.

Jason James

I think you should give your Cars 3 review in like a year or so with no explanation or context.

Derek Horkel

Oh yes, and about the criticism - I won't say don't let it get you down because I'm not on YouTube (for that reason and also a lack of discernible YouTubing talent) but... don't let it get you down too much.

Stuart Payne

Which brings me to the other point : It seems most of the rejected videos were rejected because you tried to assess in advance how popular it would be and whether or not you might upset people. At some point I said out loud while watching : "Girl you spent too much time at Disney." It does make sense that since videos take work and you can only make so many, you'd eliminate the ones you think are less likely to be successful. Yet now I wonder how much do you yourself like recording and watching your own videos? How often do you think "Wow I sound so right and cool. I love it." and are satisfied with yourself regardless of how many views it gets? The thing is, even from a business perspective, focusing on what you think your audience wants can backfire. Since I'm more special to you than your average audience, I'll use the privilege to say this : I'm interested in you. Your ideas. Your thoughts on all those pop culture things I otherwise don't watch or care about. Your silly jokes. Your style. I don't care one bit about your other viewers and what they want (sorry everyone... just the truth) and I bet you they feel exactly the same. Hence why, in theory, it is by talking about the things YOU like or hate the most that you will retain your viewers and gain new ones. Youtube is littered with pop culture commenters and people with opinions, but none of them is you. That's all you got. I say embrace it.

Abel Cassius

I used to watch the Ewok movies as a kid (especially the second one) because The Disney Channel used to air the crap out of it in the early 90s (back when it was a commercial-free, pay channel). Please watch them both and do a video (especially the opening of the second movie after watching the first). There is something strange and special about these movies, beyond just keeping Warwick Davis employed between RotJ & Willow (possibly his magnum opus?)...

AndyofCT

More horror movie videos is a plus

Blue Corn

I like the Disney idea at 6:40

John

I do like the Public Domain movies idea. As I feel there have been far too many these past years and it's a trope that's waiting to be exposed like King Arthur. But after checking, amazingly enough, there are no more scheduled until Robin Hood in September 2018.

Blue Corn

Donde esta el porg grande?

You are a singer. Case closed. You can't say you recorded a song and be like : "Eh, MAYBE I'll post it online." in the same video in which you said about 20 times you don't want to upset your viewers.

Abel Cassius

Yep, horror movies and another creepy...

Bruce Climas

Me personally, I love the idea of you covering more horror movies.

The BabaDuck

Oh dear. I messed up the spacing of my comment and then edited it too many times, I think, and now it's been marked as spam. It was pretty much - these all sound good for me. I watch you or RLM for what you say, not what you talk about. For general view, most of these could probably be reworked when a new Trevorrow, or Pixar or Anabelle film is released. Instead of a separate channel for Disney or horror, you could have separate playlists (like Oliver Harper or GoodBadFlicks), maybe with a different title screen for each series. I think a theme park or Ewok video would do well at any time. Speaking of Ewoks, I've seen the video you mentioned, if it's the Austin McConnell one. I've been watching him recently and I like his videos, even if the titles are sometimes a little off. Anyway, I mention him because it's sad but understandable that you don't want to do videos because of criticism and yesterday I watched a video of his in which he talked about that: https://youtu.be/cstiCjIk14w?t=13m34s https://youtu.be/cstiCjIk14w?t=9m37s And I'd love to see/hear the MLP song. And more songs. You sing beautifully - it was 'It'll Be OK' which first made me a fan.

Stuart Payne

I vote creepy and pony

Fun Kilo @imkilo
