Ramble #4

Ramble #4

Did you ever start writing a book again?

Chelsea Counsell

I can definitely relate to your hesitancy to follow up on other offers and submissions... though I think it's worth noting that you're already producing work that a lot of people love and look forward to. In fact, I'd rank your videos ahead of a lot of my favourite TV shows in terms of entertainment value and must-watchability. It's just a shame you aren't getting paid "Big Bang Theory" money for making them...

Dee Crosier

I know this is an older video, but I just got a job working at the Disneyland Hotel, and I was a little worried about working for such a large company. The fact that you enjoy your job working for the same company is reassuring. I'm hoping that, even though the hotel is technically Downtown Disney, that I still get passes every once in a while. Wait... I should say, my friends and family are hoping that I get passes.

Greg McDaniel

I always thought you were an English major in college. Maybe it's because all of my favorite Youtubers were English majors, but you're witty quips and word play made me convinced you had a BA in English. -Cue the Avenue Q song-

Glad to hear that things are coming along for you!!! I can't wait to see what you come up with on SJ. Moving is a pain in the butt. Hope it goes well.

By the way, I'm a big fan of the longer videos but it's probably best for viewership if you shake it up. It might be harder to 'sell' longer videos on less-popular topics (as opposed to SW, 50 Shades, etc.) but obviously you would have better access to your data.

My department is actually non-union (I think it has to be because VIP tours can run extremely strange hours and throw off scheduled break times), which I think is part of the reason it pays more - to compensate. You can set your preferences, but in busy season might get scheduled on your "unavailable" days anyway. The union departments are less flexible right now though - they took away their ability to give away shifts about a year ago and have never given it back. A lot of my friends in union departments these days have actually been struggling to get out of them.

Jenny Nicholson

Amazon's Pilot Season Program will accept scripts from anybody. Just a thought.

Adam Blackhat

That's what your 20's are for. Good luck Jenny.

Regarding your Disney scheduling/points, can you modify your availability or do you absolutely need to have open availability? I manage in a union environment too and one loophole that some of my employees managed to get through is simply marking themselves unavailable on the days they want to keep off. With enough seniority it shouldn't be an issue unless there's a clause in the union contract.

Carlos Luna

Congrats on the Screen Junkies gig Jenny! Although I think there was some funny business going on in the Disney movie fights. Someone stole all your point!

KevtheRipper

No joke, but when I first started watching your channel I thought you *were* an actress from Portlandia or some shit. So... just sayin'...

It's so awesome these videos have actually led to more opportunities for you. Moving out is very stressful even when it goes smoothly, so I will not pretend to understand your stress level if it's going roughly. I recently moved in with my girlfriend and it was a pretty smooth transition but was still anxiety-ridden and filled with uncertainty. I hope you find a great place soon and can enjoy it for many years to come!

Congrats!

Tim Ruckle

Unfortunately Disney is pretty inflexible with scheduling. You can request to have certain days off per week but I've seen a lot of people try to maintain second jobs and had it fail, like they just go "I know you can't work wednesdays but it's busy season so we gave you a wednesday" and then you have to try to trade out of it. On top of that the points rule is rigid, even if your managers like you and want to keep you there they're required to fire you if you surpass your points. We'll see how long I can stay though. It doesn't help that I burned a bunch of points being sick this past winter.

Jenny Nicholson

Such a shame that you will have to quit. That means fewer chances of running into you if I ever go to Disneyland. I don't mind the ramble videos delay, I'll keep supporting you so you can buy that annual pass and hang out with me in Star Wars Land!

Wow! That's great! Screen Junkies is good, I subscribe to SJ+. Star Wars celebration will be so much fun!

Derek Horkel

Screen Junkies? Yeah, I'll be on the lookout for that now. I also do con coverage. I go all Hunter S Thompson. Then I go back and rewrite everything to make sense. UGH! Hate covering cons sometimes.

Thanks for the great video, and congrats about the new job! I'm really excited to see your new work!

Trevor Lalish-Menagh

I don't pay you for ramble videos, I pay you because I want to support you. If you need to skip, or postpone one, because you need to move, or something, I support that too. I love your stuff, but I don't want you to be stressed out.

Nick Fisherman

I like long videos too!

dipique

My magical future DVR is already set to record your show and my magical future Kindle is set to download your book.

Dan Cole

I might go to Celebration next time it's here in SoCal. That's a big "might," though.

matt

Congratulations on all the good changes! It's awesome that you found a contract that fits you, I'm happy you'll get to still make your own vids. Moving sucks, especially when you have lots of toys and stuff. I actually got rid of a lot due to lots of moving, either too much to move or places not big enough for the stuff. Either way, hang in there! Happy to support all of your future endeavors! (Super wish I could see//meet you at the Star Wars celebration, I wanted to go! Maybe the next one! Need to stop buying action figures so I can afford more trips).

Brianna Ogas

A video should be the length of time it takes to say whatever it is you want to say. As long as it is interesting, funny, informative, engaging, or whatever throughout the length is irrelevant (within reason of course).

Sounds like great things are in your future. I look forward to seeing them. Good luck with the move and take care of what you need to do in your life before you worry about us. (Not that I speak for all the patrons)

Kevin Kawa

Also I'm really looking forward to that novel of yours someday, but if you are indeed going to use a pen name, are you at least going to tell us it's published so we can go nuts with theories about which one is yours? I will find it. Even if it means I gotta go all Sherlock Holmes on the case... or ask.

Abel Cassius

Good things are worth waiting for. If the ramble is late once in a while because you are overwhelmed with everything else, think nothing of it. The whole point of supporters is to alleviate stress, not add to it. Find yourself a nice, safe, cozy place to stay. It's on us, literally.

Abel Cassius

NO! DON'T DO IT! Don't stress out, eat some pizza, and hug some droids ;)

Duszy

Spec Scripts can be short so you won't loose interest and they get you buzz as a writer if you get a good one just research spec scripts as much as you can im sure you'll land a job because we are provable bankable evidence of your current following.

Veterans Art Therapy

Aren't you supposedly to write spec scripts for different genres if you wanna be a Hollywood writer? Just write spec scripts.

Veterans Art Therapy

Morning cutie, saw you on screen junkies. You seemed a little jumpy. You kept interrupting everyone lol. Don't worry kiddo you'll get the hang of it, it's just hard to get the timing between comments right live with a group.
