hello!! sorry for commenting on a 3 year old (4 year old??) video, but I was wondering if your stance on people coming up to you has changed since youve gotten even bigger! it's something i've always wondered as someone who works at disneyland (or worked, now, i guess :[) and therefore the chances of running into you seem pretty high. i actually have met you, once, but i wasn't able to actually speak due to being in costume haha so i don't really count it. i hope i get to meet you again someday as myself, you seem really fun to talk to!!

Was it a huge pain in the ass to get your first 1000 subscribers?

Chelsea Counsell

I really enjoy these peeks “behind the curtain”… I never realised there was so much business/marketing strategy to consider when posting YouTube videos, but you clearly have a good head on your shoulders, and a sensible/modest attitude to fame and such-like, so snaps to you! :)

Dee Crosier

I loved this. I am watching it in November, after you have done the Battlefront video and after you have moved (but you still shoot your videos on your bed). You really seem to have a healthy perspective on the nature of fame. I appreciate a fresh, clear, well seasoned perspective.

Cream soda.

Brandon Blackmoor

I wonder if that was a RedLetterMedia reference.

Mike Bermingham

Shout out to Wisconsin! Woo!

Dustin Collins

You can make Butterbeer with club soda??!!

so jealous! I've wanted one of those Star Speeders ever since it came out! :) happy for you that you got one. All I ever see if them on ebay for like $150.

Heavy appreciation for your enthusiasm while unboxing a thing you wanted. It acted as a focal point throughout the video. Something to come back to when topics go too far afield instead of only the main topic.

Love your ramblings and your views. I think you're taking the right approach about getting linked or joining a network or sponsorships--just make sure you do what you are comfortable with and you feel you are adequately compensated. I support you on patreon because I enjoy your independence and candor and saying what you believe and not worried about some goody bag in the corner from someone you don't disclose. ultimately whatever you do, just be honest and disclose everything to your viewers and they will continue to appreciate you and your work. Some people will never be happy if you make *gasp* money but so long as you aren't dishonest on where your money comes from w/r/t to any products you are talking about, the vast majority of people will appreciate it (and pretty much anyone on Patreon is already fine with you getting compensated for your hard work anyway). Keep up the good work and looking forward to your work!

re: your comment at the end about how you hoped that nobody watched to the end because you getting excited about a new toy is not what people want. Just wanted to say that exactly the kind of thing I'm here for. Not toy reviews, specifically, but just you getting excited or passionate about stuff. I'm so tired of people (on the internet in particular) being so cynical about everything. I'm always on the lookout for people who are passionate (not necessarily positive, you can be critical about something without being cynical) about things and not afraid to share that (both in real life and on the internet). It's what I think makes people the most interesting. I have a buddy who is deep into Magic the Gathering and even though I don't play or even really care about it, I could listen to him talk about it for hours just because he's SO passionate about it. He just comes to life when he talks about it. You talking about Star Wars or ponies or Disney and being excited and into it is why I'm here. So, I can only speak for me, but if there's something you're excited about, don't feel bad about sharing it.

You always know someone's sponsored by Maker because their video starts with an obtrusive spoken intro about how the Amino App is worth checking out Incidentally no network can MAKE someone accept a sponsorship, or control content at all really. But the "business advice" that any network claims makes them worth 20% of your income is usually just, make custom thumbnails. Make a channel trailer. Accept this Audible sponsorship. Common sense things. The only real benefit to a network is they're the only TRUE way to have Fair Use. Even if your work falls under Fair Use, youtube will remove it. If you're signed to a network, youtube will leave it up unless the claimant actively takes you to court. This is a right all content producers should have, but only those with networks actually do. Which sucks and is corrupt. So unfortunately I wouldn't put any movie clips in my videos unless signed to a network.

Jenny Nicholson

AV Club shared it after it had already kind of boomed. I definitely credit reddit with single-handedly doing the bulk of the promoting, although a few key twitterers have also made a big difference. Haven't noticed a lot of traffic coming from any other single source

Another great video. It's nice to know that you respect and appreciate your fans, have good business sense, and know how to fix things. I hope you find a nice place to move. Take care and be well.

Daniel Fahringer

I'd be curious to know if you saw any significant increase in followers after the Suicide Squad video was featured on the Onion AV Club (my first exposure to it) or if that was even on your radar. Their piece went up three days after the video was first posted so it may have just been a drop in the bucket of the whole viral flurry (sorry ... that metaphor kind of got away from me).

Hi Jenny. Hank Green has a support network for YouTube creators that might be a good fit for supporting your work without taking ownership. Seems more trustworthy than other 'networks' Check it out: https://internetcreatorsguild.com/

"Once you go battle mode you don't come back from that." you said it Mei Mei! I really like your videos, but I am a johnny come lately (Jimmy Scrambles got me hooked). You've the eyes of a Fremen. When you said that, even in that dismissive joking context, I knew those words to be true. I probably should just read Dune again and stop being so dramatic. Please continue your great work, and thank you.

Space Cadet

Was it Polaris/Maker studios? the company owned owned by disney aka the company you like. I would be cautious with that A lot of major members fairly recently jumped ship so be careful with scummy youtube networks

These are such fun. Will definitely continue pledging. I'm going to have to run out and see Split so I can be prepared for your next video. Keep up the great work. Just thought you'd like to hear another change you may not have realized your success has caused: you've inspired others to begin creating as well. I started making little videos of my own, mostly just for friends and family, as a creative outlet. I worked in film criticism for a while but fell out of it because it stopped being fun and it took me a very long time to find the fun again. Your videos helped me do that. So thank you for being an unexpected source of inspiration.

Jenny opening presents on Christmas morning must be recorded this year.

John Orquiola

Youtube networks? You got where you are by yourself and now they want a piece of the pie. Tell them they can go buy some apples themselves. Creative freedom is the way to go.

Abel Cassius

That was just a fun video to watch.

Haha shall I eat a pizza next time

Jenny Nicholson

But... where's the pizza?!

Duszy

Nice. I've always been tempted to get one of those speeders.

Ericson Just

I really enjoy your videos both here and on YouTube. Please keep up the great work.

Neal Cooper

Ratatouille is my fav Pixar movie too! Toy Story 3 is a close second. Have you ever noticed the similarities between Rey and Wall-E?
