What Does Patreon Do

Posting up the ramble video later today when I get home, but this is an additional video of a thing I just wanted to address really quick

What Does Patreon Do

Comments

Amanda is one of the most beautiful humans I've ever seen.

Throwing the money in a hole is a power move. I'd respect it.

Ryan Grondzik

As the wonderful Amanda Palmer would say: "Take the Donuts!" Love your videos, hope to see a lot more them.

You are good at what you do and people want to show you that we appreciate your hard work. Take the opportunity to try new things, branch out, see what works and what doesnt, for both you and for the viewers. Having this as a stream of income allows you to do that and we are all happy to give you that opportunity.

TheronDragon

I signed up to Patreon just to support you. I think you are doing great work and cannot wait to see what is next, whatever that may be!

Trevor Lalish-Menagh

And here I thought I was contributing to help you eat pizza 3 times a day until you got so big you changed your name to Jenny the Hutt...seriously, though, I, for one, am happy to support the videos you make. They are funny, charming, and very well thought out. I can imagine that you put a lot of effort into them, and I appreciate both the opportunity to watch them, and being able to thank you for them by contributing to you through Patreon.

I agree with Matt completely. And just want to add how much I appreciate the fact that you do all that while at the same time keeping things "family-friendly", for lack of a better word! I know people curse, and it doesn't bother me personally. But there is not a lot of content like yours on the internet that I can also share and enjoy with my kids. They love these kinds of movies too but most of the great videos and podcasts on the internet about them are usually not appropriate for all ages! I doubt you purposefully set out to do it this way, but wanted to at least acknowledge it and say thanks.

Three pieces of unsolicited advice: 1. Don't feel guilty about how much you earn here. The great thing about Patreon is it is completely voluntary. We're choosing to support you because we believe in you and enjoy what you're doing. You've earned this money just as much as you earn the money from your day job. 2. Don't feel obligated to your patrons. We liked what you were doing before we started supporting you. Don't change now out of a sense of "giving us our money's worth". You owe us nothing but to do what you do. If someone is upset you won't listen to their suggestions or has any other problem at all they can drop their support at any time. 3. If some random person on the internet tries to give you unsolicited life advice, feel free to pick and choose what works for you or ignore them completely!

Yes, what Matt says! Jenny — I like to think – or at least hope (it's what rebellions are built on) – that I'm as big a Star Wars fan as you, but you're capable of the kind of brilliant thought-provoking analysis and criticism of Very Favourite Thing that makes my sad, unconditional love for it a little more rounded and therefore more meaningful. You make Star Wars better for me and, because of your genuine excellence and well-earned increase in audience, potential better for everyone. Even the mighty Vader needed a Tarkin to hold his leash. You've got a gift for creating extraordinary content; the renaissance artist comparison is entirely justified.

You know more about story, structure and character than most working writers/development executives. I've used your videos more than once to underline points I was trying to make to colleagues - because you are so clear, concise (and really fucking funny) in your points - you are providing a huge educational service. You have no idea how happy I am to contribute. Just keep doing what you're doing. Thank you.

Its why I support all the people on Patereon I support. People who have creative talent should be able to use it to create things they love and not doing a "day job" more than they need to in order to support the rest. A few people I support do go all the way and are basically primarily supported by Patreon, which is good too, but it does take a bit more bravery, especially if you have a reliable "day job" you don't mind and gives you flexibility to only work as little as you want. I think you're taknig the right approach and have a job that gives you the flexibility to do that. Keep it up but don't wear yourself out--your videos are great because they are fresh and original and candid and not "paid for" ads (which is more than I can say about some youtubers i no longer follow as they open up boxes of stuff for gear from people they coincidentally gave an oddly enthusiastic review to). The moment the videos seem like a "grind" give yourself a break. Talk to other patron backed youtubers if you can to see their approach. And do what you like doing, that is why I love your channel and I'm sure others feel the same.

And what does the stack of batteries look like from that surplus? O.0

I look forward to seeing what happens. I think the channel has the right ingredients for sustained success: a likable personality, an audience (i.e. content that appeals to a sufficiently large & passionate audience), and an artist/owner who is/seems disciplined and dedicated to producing high-quality content. In these situations, the last one is usually the one to go. Content creators get lazy (or were never that rigorous to begin with) and the support migrates to more reliable artists. If that doesn't happen, I suspect your channel will get a lot bigger. You've mentioned feeling surprised at the level of support--but, like Rod commented, you earned it. For all the trillions of hours of content on YouTube, there is a surprising lack of reliably engaging content with dependable creators.

dipique

I hope you understand that you earned it. You were recomended to me on The Collider Movie Talk Live Show by John Campea (Collider Boss) on air. You are good at what you do. You are funny, engaging and honest on review that is worth it to me and many keep up the good work. Review more movies. Perhaps some seasons of Rebels and maybe episodes once the new season is back on the air. I guarantee reviews of Rebels season 1 & 2 will increase your patreon as will reviewing any new episodes. Also any Sci-fi, Fantasy & action movie to many of us it's like watching an adorable daughter or little sister adding perspective wittily. I know that like Jyn Erso you'll probably take being called a little sister a little forward but it's just a figure of speech. I'll probably double my Patreon soon especially if you recap Rebels but feel free to do as you like, you've done an excellent job so far.
