Hello everyone!
When I start designing the graphics for a new comic, I usually begin with the two main characters. I do some online research to gather inspiration and then create a few sketches. Once I have a clearer idea of what I want and the kind of effect I want to achieve with the characters' aesthetics, I prepare a preliminary character sheet. In this sheet, I draw the character in full figure and include some facial expressions to understand what the final result might look like. Then, I add details such as clothing, various accessories, and some aesthetic elements (for example, markings, a scar, etc.).
The character I’m presenting to you is a saber-toothed tiger. This is the first time I draw this type of animal. It was a somewhat peculiar choice: I wanted a tiger character (after all, it’s my representative animal), but this time I wanted it to have a vaguely menacing look and the charm of a rebel at the same time. Obviously, the beauty of a character is subjective, and therefore, not everyone might like it or feel the same emotions that I do.
Since this is just a preliminary drawing (a prototype, in short), it might change. Generally, when I create a character sheet, I don’t look at it for 2-3 days. This technique allows me to better see what doesn’t work.
I won't tell you his name or who he represents in the story! I don't want to spoil too much, and you'll find out when I publish the comic. I will only tell you that it is an extremely dramatic character, constantly battling with itself and crushed by the weight of the choices it has to make.
A hug,
WTC
