Goodbye raffles

about two or three weeks ago, I was made aware that raffles aren't allowed on Patreon, and it turns out that there isn't any good way around it. At first, I was hoping that such benefits are banned only when physical prizes of real value are given away, but sadly, only those two points are taken into account to determine if the raffle should be disallowed:
- A patron has to become a member of a paid tier.
- The winner is drawn by chance.
Just like many other artists, I don't think I'd be comfortable with trying to stay under the radar and risk getting banned, and at the same time, I would hate to ask anyone to write a fanfic every month to select the winner, basing on their creativity or writing skills. The reason such benefits were even included in the tiers in the first place is because I was setting up Patreon long before its actual launch, and the benefits were the last thing added right before its start.
I sincerely apologise for this massive fuck-up on my side, especially to people who joined the higher tiers mainly due to the raffles. Unfortunately, they have to go, and instead, I'm most likely going to start creating timelapse videos or/and create some kind of suggestion box so you can drop your ideas there for the future artworks you'd like to see as sheets or random projects. I also considered learning how to animate in 2D, but that might take a while to bring any juicy results..
Again, I'm really sorry about such outcome, and please let me know how you feel about it.

Patreon isn't going to go out of their way to find and ban every creator doing art raffles, but it's just an unnecessary risk that could get you in trouble if somebody does decide to report you. Suggestion box is definitely something I'd like to try but I still have to figure out how to create a space for those ideas and an easy way for everyone to access them. Starting a comics is a bit more tricky because I feel it would absorb me to the point that I wouldn't be able to do anything else, and creating a story set in DbD's universe is rather.. challenging. But will see! For now, I'm just incredibly grateful to have you and others around.

2024-02-21 13:02:12 +0000 UTCOh damn I didn't know there was such rule on Patreon - I'm sure it's like you said, they want to avoid any risk related to gambling since the regulations are different on every country. I was doing raffles on my page too but I guess I will have to change it as well :/ I think the suggestion box is a good idea to replace the raffle, perhaps let people suggest ideas or characters and then make a poll with the options so all the Disciples can vote :) I've seen artists doing comics in the style "choose your own adventure", where the patrons vote for the next thing to happen in the scene. I know comics are kind of a different thing, but maybe it's worth a try. I'll continue supporting you in any way and I'm sure everyone will be happy with anything you decide to do <3
