In Part Two of Demon Forces VI: The Murder of Yugoslavia, Dimitri examines the fraught and conspiratorial period of the mid-1930s up through the Nazi invasion of Yugoslavia in the spring of 1941.

First, some background on the incredible early life of future Yugoslav leader Josip Broz Tito: getting swept up in the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917 as an Austro-Hungarian POW, labor organizing in inter-war Yugoslavia, his eventual disappearance into the Communist Underground, and his perilous, delicate rise through the ranks of the Yugoslav Communist Party during the height of the Soviet purges in the late 30s.

Then we return to the pre-war activities of Ante Pavelic’s Ustaše, particularly in the United States; the formation of “Domobran” chapters across America in the 1930s; Youngstown, Ohio as a hub of Ustaše expat intrigue; Ustaše newspapers and radio stations churning out pro-Pavelic propaganda; and faltering US government attempts to arrest and deport Ustaše representatives before the war.

Finally, the beginning of World War Two; Roosevelt sending Wild Bill Donovan on a secret mission to the Balkans; the British-backed coup and subsequent Nazi invasion of Yugoslavia; Mussolini’s installation of Pavelic as leader of the “Independent State of Croatia”; and the immediate unleashing of Ustaše death squads on Serbs, Jews, Romani, and anti-fascist Croats (in close collaboration with the Croatian Catholic Church and the not-so-subtle endorsement of Pope Pius XII), kicking off what would soon become one of the most shocking mass murder rituals in modern history.
