Added 2023-12-14 06:29:00 +0000 UTC[Author's note: I'm not intentionally trying to frustrate you guys with cliffs, or "filler" chapters or anything like that. I'm going to post the rest of the chapters for this week early, which means you won't get another chapter until Tuesday after Chapter 56. I hope this helps.
I just want to entertain you all and excite you for what happens next.]
Xavier sat, cross-legged in the Staging Room of the Tower of Champions. The stone floor was cold beneath him. The others were chatting quietly at the other side of the room, about what they’d received from their loot boxes. He tuned them out.
The first time Xavier had opened up the System Shop he’d seen a weapon that intrigued him. It was incredibly expensive, requiring the use of Grand Spirit Coins. One billion Grand Spirit Coins. Considering the rate of exchange between the different coins… it was a sum he could never imagine being able to afford.
Yet he couldn’t help but covet the weapon.
Stave of the Otherworldly Void Reaper.
There was something about it that attracted him. He hadn’t looked at its details. He didn’t think he would be able to look at its details. Still, he was certain that the weapon wasn’t a normal staff, but a scythe-staff—it must have been, considering it was for a Denizen who held a class in the Reaper line.
Otherworldly Void Reaper…
That name had most definitely intrigued him.
And now, the class he was looking at was called the Otherworldly Reaper. He had to imagine that there must be some sort of connection.
He brought up the description.
Otherworldly Reaper Class (Legendary):
An Otherworldly Reaper is an ultra-rare class of versatile mage that focuses on magic of the spirit, mind, and will. They can be a long-range fighter, a close-range fighter, or a mix of both, and they wield a scythe-staff in battle—a hybrid, melee/magical weapon. They can wear any armour they wish and have the ability to imbue Spirit Energy into their equipment to strengthen its qualities—though this lasts for a limited time.
Otherworldly Reapers have the ability to harvest the souls of those they slay and can call upon those souls in moments of need. They also have the ability to call upon spirits from the Otherworld.
The Otherworld is a land between universes. A land where the impossible dies. Little is known about this place by most Denizens of the Greater Universe.
Attributes per level: +10 Strength, +10 Toughness, +10 speed, +15 Intelligence, +15 Willpower, +20 Spirit, +40 free stat points.
Xavier stared at the description for a long while, not really understanding what the class was offering. This class sounded most similar to the normal Soul Reaper class, but this reference to the Otherworld, and calling spirits from it?
It sounds more like a summoning spell than a reaping spell. What exactly would these spirits do? What are they capable of?
And what is the Otherworld?
A land between universes… was that referring to the multiverse? Soon after entering the fifth floor for the second time, he’d discovered that it was in a different universe. Discovered that every time a Tower of Champion’s floor was entered it created another universe, branching off from that one action.
Every time a Denizen farmed a single floor they created another universe, which made it sound as though Denizens had incredible power—but it was the System that was sending them there. The System that was allowing them to travel to a different universe.
But what exactly would be between universes? How could there even be a place in between?
Xavier bit his lip, then he noticed something about the attributes. His forehead crinkled, deep ruts cutting into his brow. This class, like the last one he’d looked at, was classified as Legendary, and yet it offered twenty more attribute points.
I thought classes of the same type all offered the same number of attribute points, just distributed differently?
He wasn’t annoyed to be proven wrong. Gaining one-hundred-and-twenty attribute points per level would definitely be better than gaining a hundred, but how could he choose this class when he didn’t really know what it would offer?
It was a gamble, that this connection to the Otherworld would actually help him.
I doubt I’ll lose any spells from choosing this class. I’ll still be able to do everything a Soul Reaper can do, right?
Though that did make him wonder if the Legendary Soul Reaper class in E Grade would have more spells to offer than the Epic Soul Reaper class in F Grade had.
Still… he was intrigued. It kept coming back to the Stave of the Otherworldly Void Reaper. It was the most expensive item for his class that he’d seen in the store, which made it seem like it must be the most powerful.
Little is known about this place by most Denizens of the Greater Universe.
If little was known about this Otherworld, it would be difficult for him to find information about it. Difficult for him to learn from others about it. But it would also mean he would be able to take hold of valuable information himself. Information that others didn’t have could always be used to one’s own advantage.
That’s why Champions from integrated worlds tend to fare better than those from newly integrated worlds. Except for Progenitors, of course.
Xavier could have talked with the others about his decision. Hell, he could go down to the tavern and speak with Sam. But he’d always made these decisions on his own, and they’d paid off so far.
If nothing else, this would gain him more attribute points.
Besides, this was always going to be his choice. The unknown was so much more enticing than the known.
Xavier willed the class selection.
Are you sure you wish to choose OTHERWORLDY REAPER (LEGENDARY) as your class?
Becoming an OTHERWORLDY REAPER (LEGENDARY) may result in the loss of spells and skills that are incompatible with the class. This is a choice that cannot be unmade.
One cannot walk backward on the path.
The warning that he might lose spells or skills made him pause for a moment. His mind instantly went to Willpower Infusion—except he couldn’t lose that spell. In the description, it had said that it was bonded to his secondary core and couldn’t be forgotten.
He hadn’t lost Heavy Telekinesis when he’d chosen Soul Reaper, so he doubted he would lose it this time. He couldn’t lose his Core Burn spell, either. It was bonded to his soul.
Yes, he willed in response to the notification. I’m sure.

Class Upgrade Evaluation Complete.
Commencing Class Upgrade!
Xavier steeled himself for the pain he knew was coming. It hit him in a wave. The last time he’d felt it, it had been so unbearable he’d fallen unconscious.
This time, he bore it well. He remained sitting where he was. It made him shudder. Made him throw his head back. But he didn’t so much as release a single hiss. He clenched his jaw shut, clenched his eyes shut, and kept his pain silent.
It didn’t make him fall.
When it was over, he opened his eyes once more. He took a measured breath, felt it in his belly, and let it out slow. The pain had disappeared as quickly as it came. He didn’t know how long it had lasted. Several minutes, at least. Proving that he wouldn’t have been able to upgrade his class while he’d been fighting against the Lord of the Endless Horde.
I already knew as much. But at least I took the upgrade better than last time.
There were several notifications waiting for him.
Congratulations, XAVIER COLLINS! You have upgraded your class from SOUL REAPER (EPIC) to OTHERWORLDY REAPER (LEGENDARY).
You have 0 Spell Upgrades and 0 Skill Transfers pending.
You have gained the spell Summon Otherworldly Spirit.
You have gained the spell Otherworldly Communion.
You have gained the spell Soul Shatter.
You have gained the spell Soul Puppet.
These spells are locked to your class and cannot be forgotten unless you change to an incompatible class.
Xavier smiled. God, it felt good to learn so many new spells all at once! It wasn’t as many spells as he’d learnt when he’d originally chosen the Soul Reaper class, but he still had those spells, so it was a great boon.
For a moment he wondered if everyone choosing the same class would receive the exact same spells, or if the individual path they were on would somehow influence that.
Xavier leant forward and rubbed his hands together. Ever since he’d returned to the Staging Room, it felt as though a massive weight had been removed from his shoulders. The burden that had been fighting the Endless Horde, protecting Queen Alastea, was now gone.
The burden of protecting Earth was still there, but he knew for sure he would be capable of that now.
Maybe these next few floors will actually be fun.
He grinned, excited to see what his new spells had to offer him.
