2025-12-08 19:29:16 +0000 UTCThe creator of the show has gone on record that they didn’t want to risk the controversy of actually depicting god and pissing off any groups so she decided to have god in the show essentially be a universal and all encompassing force of pure good rather than a physical being. God in this show still has some form of will that the speaker communicates to the rest of heaven but god isn’t gonna be directly interfering in the show

Stephanie Beatriz (Mirabel from Encanto) as Vaggie was the one that surprised me the most but after learning who she was I was like oh yeah i def hear Mirabelle now. Fun fact, The Speaker of God VA does Jasmine's singing voice in the two sequel movies of Aladdin as well as the doing the singing voices of princess odette from swan princess & Anastasia from Anastasia (and is the main guy's overseas wife in the OG Broadway version of Miss Saigon).

But the Speaker being not God does also allow for removing direct divine intervention! It was a good decision. Supernatural stepped on that grenade already lol

Vivzie has been very clear that God will NOT be in the story ever because she doesn't want the controversy that any depiction of God would bring. So she made the Speaker to say what God would say in a scene, but without needing to make it explicitly "Hello, Christians, Jews, and Muslims of the world, this is my portrayal of the most sacred being in your entire culture." No matter how respectful or nuanced, there would be an online shitstorm. But the Speaker is still technically an angel, rather than God Himself, and so can be without answers and be questioned for plot's sake

2025-12-08 15:50:07 +0000 UTC“Sera’s Confession,” the song Sera and the Speaker sing, is my second favorite song of the season. Patina Miller and Liz Callaway killed it. I like that the show acknowledges someone as powerful as Sera can be misled and wrong. Heaven isn’t infallible. Unfortunately, Sera’s in a position where mistakes have larger consequences.
