Just letting you all know I've officially started writing chapters for Surgecaller book 9. Chapters will be uploaded sporadically as they're ready.
For those of you new to my work, coming in through Accidental Champion from Royal Road, here's the blurb for book 1, and the amazon link is at the end if you're curious.
(All 8 currently published books are in Kindle Unlimited.)
Huon is weak. A surgecaller who escaped into the wilds, his only goal was to survive.
Now he is Oathbound, forced to fight in an arena, forced to become stronger than he’d thought possible.
As he realises he can become strong, the need for revenge fills his heart, and a new goal forms in his mind.
But his goal is impossible: kill the dragon rider, the Immortal of Fire.
To succeed, he’ll have to do more than just survive—he’ll have to advance beyond anything the realm has ever seen.
In the spirit of progression fantasies like Cradle and Mage Errant, enter a realm with magical beasts, where surgecallers can cultivate essence to strengthen their weapons, enhance their bodies and wield elemental magic.
Oathbound has a ranking system reminiscent of Cradle and other cultivation novels.
Surgecallers 'receive the call' at the age of seven or eight and develop a core. They can cultivate different types of essence depending on their advancement level—physical essence and elemental essence are the two main types at the earlier advancement levels.
(For instance, a surgecaller could do push ups to gain strength essence, then they would have a reserve of strength to call upon, or 'surge', when needed.)
I based the ranking system off of medieval Knights, in a way, and it goes: Page, Squire, Knight, Champion, Legend and Immortal (and beyond?).
The main character, Huon, starts off at the lowest level of advancement. At age sixteen, he's still a Page, when most surgecallers in his realm have advanced to Squire by the time they reach thirteen.

Don't worry, Accidental Champion chapters will be rolling in on the normal, 5 day/week schedule.
Thanks all!
