That sounds like it would be miserable to get through

HBelmont 24

I feel like there are so many shitty dads that any dad that isn’t tryn to kill you starts getting passes 🤦‍♂️ . How about a bad dad tier list 🤔?

Justin Spencer

Typically, your DM wouldn't put this kind of challenge in front of you if you didn't have the tools to solve it, but if they did, the answer would usually be to seek help from someone who did have those tools.

Ferret

As a person that’s never played DandD in this case what if you don’t have somebody with the proper magic or strength for a quest like how would they have got to that underwater temple?

yes yes yes yes yes

It's worth remembering (a lot of reactors at this point seem to forget) that Vex and Vax's mom died to a dragon attack that wiped out their town. I'm not a Critter so I don't know the exact timeline, but I think that's why they are living with their dad. On another note, episodes 3 - 6 is such an awesome stretch of episodes; I can't wait to see your next few reactions.

Some trivia: Zahra and Kash were some of the earliest "guest stars" of the Critical Role livestream. The cast were still feeling pretty overwhelmed with their newfound success... and Kash was a character created by Will Friedle. Will had played the "cool older brother" character on the show Boy Meets World for like 7 years. Keyleth's actress, Marisha Ray, was more than a little starstruck since she had watched the show regularly as a kid and had only recently moved to Los Angeles from rural Kentucky to take her one in a million shot at being a professional actress. So her crush was at least halfway out-of-character haha. ALSO: I would still absolutely love to watch you guys react to a table-to-screen compilation for each season. See how some of the key moments actually played out in the game. Anyway have a great day!

Brandon Comer

The sunken tomb was such a shock in the main campaign and it happened the exact same way, Vax told everyone to hold while he checked for traps and Percy touched the armor releasing the death blast, I think Vex got hit for around 70 something necrotic damage which took her past zero, meaning she died instantly with no death saves

Josh Ashford

Is that the same as a half-giants?

HBelmont 24

like its sad but thats what you get messing around in temple/tome for the goddess of death.

Ebronics

funfact: Grogg is a goliath, which don't typically have facial hair. thats why he's so pumped about the beard

Ebronics

Question for Montana- How would you rank the show?

Zach Feifel

Nah yall are on point. Their dad is the WORST. Being racist against your own children YOU made is wild work tbh.

Ky McKenna

I have thought about asking this as an after episode question, but I always figured someone else would beat me to it. But I will ask it here. How do you think the show will handle death, specifically character deaths? How do you think the change in media (from a role-playing game to a serial animated story format) will affect how the story of Vox Machina will be told? Especially since death can be a common occurrence in a challenging campaign. Also, it's worth mentioning that after this season (to avoid spoilers, of course) , you should watch this moment in the Critical Role campaign. The reactions of Laura Bailey is priceless and anyone that's played D&D for any significant length of time, knows that feeling.

According to the Dungeon Master Guide (3.5 e), the Belt of Dwarvenkind confers a +4 bonus on Charisma checks when dealing with dwarves, a +2 charisma bonus in dealing with gnomes and halflings and a - 2 penalty on anyone else. The wearer can speak and read Dwarven. And if the wearer isn't a dwarf, they gain darkvision, dwarven stonecunning, +2 constitution bonus and +2 resistance against poisons, spells and spell-like effects. The belt basically makes you a dwarf. None of those traits are visible in an animated medium except for the beard, of course.

I cried in this episode

mastertater

A note on the Purvan bit: when matt revealed his name, that was how the cast reacted out of character and they couldn't stop laughing much to matt's chagrin. now any time there's a slightly funny name, they make him regret everything

Ellie

Vexs death was a massive moment in the campaign because it truly showed that no one was safe in Matt’s world. Something as simple as Talisan (Percy) trying to get some loot without being cautious changed the outcome of the entire campaign. Watching this live when Laura realizes her character is dead was an excruciating experience.

Uscmiller22

YASSS I love this season, especially these episodes. Can't wait for the table to screen moments at the end of this season.

patricia jimjimcherie

To add some explanation on their father being a PoS. Remember he's a Elven noble, so having bastard kids is a pretty bad look for him, especially when those kids are half human.

KomoUpNorth

Woth critical role you always get some weird crossover with dnd purists too who can be a bit problematic. Not always but when if comes to being rules lawyers and um actually dnd stuff I find it more to the same people who um actually matt mercer himself

Suplee215

Sucks to hear you guys are getting the “um actttttttttttualy” treatment, the whole community is normally better then that but there def is source material purists who will just be annoying

Dfd

Fun fact. Pepper box is a historical name for a type of pistol. Only his first one with 4 barrels was one but the name becomes kinda the name for any gun in exandria as thsts the first. Percy's first gun was also named "The List" as a proper noun but I dont think thats used for it in the show although it does have the names. Also the gun Percy is using we saw a few times. The first was when Percy took Ripley's stuff when they released her from prison. Its implied Ripley was trying to recreate Percy's weapon and had a prototype thst blew off her hand. We see Percy tinkering with thst prototype in the season 1 finale and thsts the gun he uses now.

Suplee215

15:30 Those are the best kind of moments lol

Zain Cassis

First stage of grief, after all

HBelmont 24

Has that been established in the show yet? That their mother was human?

HBelmont 24

I see this as an absolute win

HBelmont 24

Didn't Matt not intend for that to happen? And everyone had a massive "oh s***" moment in the party? 😳

HBelmont 24

Forreal. It sets the mood.

HBelmont 24

So the belt is a Belt of Dwarvenkind, which increases your strength (in Grog's case up to like 22) but the "drawback" is that you grow a magnificent and permanent dwarven beard, regardless of your species or sex.

Sheldon Chambers

Speaking of Kash, aren't he and Pike both clerics?

HBelmont 24

Scanlan using Bigby's Hand (Foot?) to skate makes me think his magic is the most fun. Dude's basically a Star Sapphire from DC Comics, which fits since their emotional spectrum is love. 😄

HBelmont 24

Vex and Vax are half elfs. Hence him calling them diluted. Thier dad is a POS.

D Gaijin

It's not about the door, it's about sending a message . . .

HBelmont 24

Is it just me, or does Kenny kinda look like Kash? 🤔 Like, think back to when Kenny had longer hair.

HBelmont 24

I love how most of this episode has no music score at all, only for it to creep in at the end before the trap hits

cryptc

feral for next ep

Daran Tung

I forget which spell was in the trap, but it did in-fact kill her instantly in the liveplay game. It was quite an emotional time.

Gwendolyn Vrisala

A lot of people react differently to this episode, but denial is pretty common.

David Bodor

After you're finished watching the show, you should search Grog's beard compilation on yt, it's precious and hilarious

wanira 11

Oh we have arrived

wanira 11

Makes you rethink all the “Do not go far from me.” Prior to this episode.

Shane Gilroy

my players totally demolished a door once, and it was unlocked the whole time

Mars

Oooh, a bit early today. Thank you!

Chris Collier

Oooh, time to cry!
