Vinland WAS shonen and shifted from a shonen magazine to a seinen magazine. Not subjectively, it quite literally shifted to a seinen publication. AoT was a shonen manga for its entire run. It was published in the “Bessatsu Shonen Magazine” This title is all dictated by the magazine they’re published in. It has nothing to do with the age of the protagonist. Witch Hat Atelier is one of my favorite manga and it has a kid girl as the protagonist. But it is a Seinen manga by definition as it’s published in Kodansha’s Morning Two seinen magazine. And thematically it does have much more grounded themes but at the same time it is viewed through the eyes of a child protagonist. These “demographics” are declared by what magazine they’re released under. It has nothing to really do with the tone or the main character. It CAN deal with complexity beyond surface level, something all manga I’ve mentioned do despite clashing settings, ages, and themes. All this to say, I really think trying to qualify a series on the demographic of its publication doesn’t always work.

2025-06-26 03:57:43 +0000 UTCAoT/Vinland are Seinen, but that means the protagonist is an adult male. Most of the other anime you've watched are Shonens, which follow young male protangonists. That may be why you see them as more grounded, because you get to see more of a serious world view vs say Gon who very much treats things in a childish manner still.

Subconsciously he knows what he is doing is wrong and his father doesn't want it, he misses his mom and sister and wants to run away. But of course the dream ends with Thors dying and his anger and hatred consume him. Also the place he wishes to run to doesn't exist, there are slaves and war no matter where he will go
